It was close to the Ueno park, 6 min walk. 7 min to the subway. Nearby is a local market. I stay just one night. Room was very cozy, small. Easy to go to the airport by train.
Check in is after 15.00u.
Staff
吹風機 加濕器 空調的風口極度的髒;
After spending a week in Tokyo, I can confidently say I made the right choice in choosing Ueno as my neighborhood. What's more, Ueno First City Hotel was probably the best choice in terms of value for money and the location within Ueno. It's off the main tourist drag and it feels quiet during the day and night. I needed that after the busyness of the city each day. It's a bit of a walk (but not a dealbreaker) to Ueno station for the Yamanote Line but there are metro stops closer to the hotel.
Room was basic but clean and comfortable, enjoyed the deep bath every night after getting back. There are laundry facilities in the basement. Midway through my stay, I realized I had miscalculated my bookings (accidentally booked a day less than I needed before going to Osaka), and the desk staff were very helpful allowing me to book another night in the same room, which helped me avoid making a trek with my bags.
I never did figure out the hours of the cafe downstairs. They happened to be open the day I checked in, which allowed me to kill some time. Food was good and staff were friendly there. But their posted hours never seemed to be correct, and just seemed to be a matter of luck if they were open or not. But it doesn't affect my score of the hotel itself.
The best hotel
On the first day of check-in, I asked the staff if they could store our luggage for us, as we were checking out in two days and had a reservation to return in four days (they has been check my reservation and confirm it). We were assured of a fee, which we agreed to pay. However, on the day of check-out, when we tried to leave our luggage, a male staff member displaying impolite with us and simply said they wouldn't accept it, even though we repeatedly explained that we had discussed this on check-in and they didn't accept any luggage storage. This disrupted our travel plans to another city because we had to drag our luggage around to find a place to store it. If the hotel didn't want to store our luggage, they shouldn't have promised us on the first day, or if there were any changes, they should have informed us beforehand.
