Svalbard Hotell - Polfareren

We've just returned from a 6 night stay at the Svalbard Polfareren Hotel, Svalbard and thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.
We booked the Polar Bear Suite, which was located on the 3rd floor of the hotel, the room was lovely, it had a twin/double bed in the alcove area and the a large seating area with a large sofa and 2 chairs, the bathroom was very large and included a shower unit as well as a separate bath. The room had plenty of storage available and a Nespresso machine and kettle to make drinks.
The reception always had complimentary hot coffee & tea available with biscuits left out at various times.
The hotel is located on the main street so very convenient for all the shops, bars and restaurants in Longyearbyen.
We used the restaurant for breakfast every day which was included, they put on a really good spread every day with a cold continental, porridge, hot bacon, sausages, eggs and hash browns, lot's of pastries, breads as well a good selection of fresh juices. We also used Polfareren restaurant for dinner, this was a lovely 3 course meal with wine pairing, the food was amazing and the service was outstanding.
The staff at the hotel are all really friendly and gave a warm welcome.
We used to the airport bus to get to the hotel, it drops off directly outside which was a great help. I would say if you there's 2 or more of you travelling, then i would actually recommend using the taxi as the price was only NOK240 back to the airport, compared to NOK220 on the bus for 2.
We booked various trips through Svalbard Adventures and all the tours picked up directly from the hotel.
We will return to Svalbard at some point and without a doubt the Polfareren hotel will be our first choice.

I had an outstanding stay at Svalbard Hotell Polfareren. The staff were exceptionally friendly, attentive, and genuinely helpful throughout my visit—they made everything effortless from check-in to departure. The breakfast selection was fantastic, with a wide variety of fresh, delicious options to start the day right. My room was surprisingly large, beautifully designed, and incredibly comfortable, offering the perfect place to relax after exploring. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Svalbard—truly a wonderful experience!

My wife a I spent 4 nights here in early October. We loved the location. It was near the supermarket, mall and a number of good restaurants. The airport shuttle stopped at it as well.

We stayed in a deluxe suite that was spacious and pretty nice. There were tvs in the bedroom and living room. We only got 12 channels, though, with just 2 rather bad English ones. Conversely, WiFi was excellent.

The bathroom was fairly large with with ample storage. It was very difficult to adjust the shower temperature to the right setting, however.

Breakfast was ok. Very good by American hotel standards but the selection was below average for Norway.

Front desk personnel were friendly and helpful. They neglected to give us our Clean the Room sign and related instructions at check-in. We eventually figured it out.

They only give you free bottles of water when you arrive. I thought that was very cheesy since you currently can’t drink the water in Longyearbyen. Most decent hotels would provide water daily in such a situation.

I’d rate it a 4.5 if I could. I rounded them up due to their favorable location.

Room was clean and in good condition. The bathrooms was fine, shower worked well. During our stay they had a temporary water problem making the water bad to drink but still ok for washing. The hotel supplied bottled water. Be prepared to remove your shoes coming into the hotel. It's their custom in many buildings. They supply slippers. Restaurant was nice with really good reindeer steaks. Breakfast was excellent. All activity pickups and dropoffs came to the hotel.

Very comfortable hotel. There was a bathtub in my room, I enjoyed the bath after a long hike and then slept really well.
The breakfast was good and diverse. Recommend!

We booked the Svalbard Hotell Lodge for a 2 bedroom apartment. It was a perfect home base for our 3 nights in Longyearbyen! The beds are comfortable, the bathrooms are roomy and clean. The shower water pressure is excellent! The kitchenette is perfect for making breakfast and storing snacks. It's a great central location and right next door to the shop so groceries are easy to get. The staff is welcoming from the emails prior to arrival up through check out. Definitely recommend!

Everything was perfect !

Very friendly staff. Cosy, comfortable warm room with full en suite bathroom. Great breakfast included. Cosy reception which is a lovely place to sit by the fire with free tea and coffee all day. Short walk across to Visit Svalbard tourist office and the shops and restaurants in town. Bus to and from the airport drops right outside. Absolutely loved it. Will definitely be back!

The Vault, like all of Longyearbyen's nonhistoric buildings, is a completely modern prefab structure -- as is to be expected in extreme climates.

The desk host was pleasant & helpful, the room & its ensuite was clean, lean, well-insulated and with great views, the breakfast simple but adequate. At dinnertime, the breakfast room converts into the quite decent Nuga Sushi (world's northermost sushi venue😲).

A good, straightforward, simple place to stay, reasonably 3-star, maybe even a 4😉.

Fabulous property. Very cosy rooms. Friendly staff and very welcoming. Great breakfast in the morning and free tea and coffee all day in the warm and cosy atrium. We’ll be back for sure!

Excellent place to stay in Longyearbyen. Nice property and staff. Within walking distance of all the major spots in the "downtown" area.

The room is bit small, however the matress is too soft for us.

I had a wonderful one-night stay at Svalbard Hotell - Polfareren. The cozy atmosphere and friendly staff made it memorable. I especially loved the practice of taking shoes off inside—it really added to the comfort and cleanliness of the space. Highly recommend for a unique and relaxing stay!

Great hotel, clean and easy walk to all areas of town. Tourist Information Centre across the road.

Stayed three nights. Everything worked. Had a room facing the back - quiet.
Cozy (small) lobby sitting area, coffee/tea available all day. The breakfast was delicious and a very wide variety.

Very nice hotel. Clean room and public space , and very good breakfast. Friendly staff. Good location. Facilities are in good condition.

My husband and I spent 4 nights in a Deluxe room at Svalbard Hotel Polfareren and were very content overall. While service from all of the staff was attentive and congenial, we especially appreciated Maria's kindness and assistance at the front desk. The room was very comfortable with a nice seating area, lots of light, and all that we needed, and although we expected slippers, we were surprised and pleased that there were also bathrobes. There was a relatively brief period one evening when hot water was not available, but the hotel communicated this along with the hours when it would be restored. It was available again the next morning as promised and didn't inconvenience us.

The breakfast buffet was very good with sufficient variety, served in a peaceful attractive dining room. We had dinner at the restaurant as well and found the food to be less satisfying, so luckily there are other good places to eat in town, including their sushi restaurant at The Vault.

We had a wonderful time in Svalbard and rate Svalbard Polfareren an excellent choice in Longyearbyen.
