Bolgatty Palace & Island Resort (KTDC)

Not very clean, unfriendly staff, terrible food

Old building really brings memories of old times, rooms very spacious, a lot of carachter. Service and food was average, treatments OK, pool not used and too many mosquito's.... Area large but not really great to walk about, cannot really walk also outside the resort

We decided to stay 12 nights in the same place on our India trip this year and explore from our base. The Bolgatty Palace Hotel proved ideal. We could take the ferry to Ernakulam and other ferries to Willingdon Island, Vypeen Island and Fort Kochi. We did a day trip by train to Alleppey and an overnight to Munnar. In Ernakulam there were interesting museums to see - the Palace, and particularly the Folk Museum and the Historical Museum. On Willingdon there is a small maritime museum which introduced us to Robert Bristow, the engineer responsible for creating the island and developing the port. Recommended book: Cochi Saga. After the trips out in the heat of the day it was lovely to retreat to our oasis, swim, enjoy a beer in the bar and delicious buffet in the dining room, both with views of the lake. Add the comfort of our room and balcony, Kathakali and massage options, it was an experience we can thoroughly recommend.

Terrible: we booked a room for 4 people and for our surprise the hotel gave us a small room only with a queen bed, with no space for an extra bed. So even though our complains about it the staff didnt resolved the problem that`s why we had to booked another hotel which means we lost our money and didnt use any service.

Excepting for the restaurant which doles out just tolerable food, the rest of the place is great. The Coffee shop is there just for names sake and has hardly any menu. The staff were courteous but needs to be trained much more to reach good standards.

Though the location is great and has lot of greenery around the hotel. The service level however is terrible. Staff seem to be running around but dont know for what. Things requested take a lot of time to be served.

Nice historic view. Expected more of this place but alittle disappointed! Would have better with cleaniness and better facilities.

Otherwise a good stay.

This is a fab property, which was the erstwhile British palace etc.. which is now taken by the govt.. and the best part of this hotel is that it is perched bang on the water-front.. has its private jetty.. rich in heritage..

but the sad part is that its run by the govt so service is just like going to any govt office...

many things about it feels old and not kept in the best of condition.. loos are v outdated...

Courteous and helpful staff. Food is not up to the mark.

It was a short but lovely stay. The lake view rooms were cozy and clean. It literally felt as if we were floating on the lake. You could see ferries and launches, houseboats and big ships incessantly passing by near and far. It is slightly difficult to get around by public transport after dark. So, you do not have any other food options close by. Room service is good, restaurant always serves buffet meals, and could be a disappointment if you come in late. But the reception was very cordial and got us breakfast before 6:30 am. I loved the place and will like to come back again.

we had booked the cottage for family..so cottage was on beach (seashore) view was unforgettable and wonderful.

Wow, once of the worst places I've stayed, unwelcoming staff that stare at you or walk away.
Toilet ran all night in our room asked for it to be fixed so next day no flush at all lucky there was a bucket in the bathroom!
Long way from the centre of the action - lift only goes up in the building we stayed in.
Restaurant was strange to say the least!!!!
Was cheep that's the only positive!

Although a very good property, the management is poor. The staff is disinterested, and therefore service is poor. Mosquitoes are a big nuisance, making it impossible to sit out in open. The surroundings of the island are not clean, leading to the problem. Our plants left outside were taken away. The breakfast was cold.

Hotel of faded glory on the end of a small island that is troublesome to get on and off.

I stayed here for a night and overall it was a pleasant experience. Rooms were clean and good. Their lake facing rooms were like tree house and well located for a nice view to the backwaters. Staffs were friendly and service was good.

Had no other choice as I had paid in full during booking -my mistake.

Allotted with wrong room when check in, not informed in person. Later after argument changed as per booking. Aircon was faulty in the night time.Location is not nearer to sightseeing places. Must cross the island to go to main places.
CP breakfast is not upto the standard, in menu so many varieties but in actual idli Dosai,uppuma only have.
Overall not upto expectation for the money paid.

beautiful location, lots of greenery and water front and really enjoyed the location.

lot of confusion among staff while billing. I had to make a complaint to Manager, However, the confusion was resolved.
