Pros:

Great location just down the street from the castle - easy/quick run or walk away. The staff were very friendly. The room was very comfortable and spacious - exactly what I needed following a week of skiing with friends.

Pros:

Excellent location, rooms ok.
Car park was well organised only cost 1000 yen per day.

Cons:

Reception seemed to be hidden, as you couldnt see if anyone was actually there or not. We walked in and out without knowing if reception was manned or not - which was From a security point a bit strange.

In particular, the location is excellent, being only 5 minutes easy walk from the very historic Samurai castle, and on the next block to the interesting City Museum. The well known Ukiyo-e Japanese print museum and the City Museum of Modern Art are short taxi rides away.
The staff, who have enough English to get by, were all most helpful and friendly.
The breakfast had a wide range of Japanese dishes and good Western choices available.
The dinner we had at the hotel one night was an impressive tradition Japanese multi-course banquet, with good French wines available at quite reasonable prices.
Meals are served in the impressive grand hall of the historic building.

Cons:

We honestly could find no fault with this hotel.

Pros:

Chose this because it is only 3min walk to the castle. Loved that they had the national flags of the customers staying there for the night.
There is also a convenience store very nearby.

Cons:

Would have liked to be able to see the banquet hall even when it is not serving.

Wonderful stay in a special place
Pros:

Loved Matsumoto and this hotel. The staff were kind and accommodating. The location is a few blocks from Matsumoto Castle. My first day, I got there just in time for sunset at the castle. Pretty special. On my last day, there was a vintage market over by Frog Street, the shopping street, which is also close by. The city history museum, a block away, was fantastic as was the city art museum. The breakfast service was the best I had on my trip.
