Very comfortable hotel in historic setting
Pros:

We picked this hotel mainly because it was a convenient stopping point fairly close to the motorway on a long journey down to the Alps but we would happily return for a longer stay. The room was excellent and spacious with very effective air conditioning (very welcome as it was the middle of the recent heatwave). Dinner in the restaurant was of a very high standard and the buffet breakfast was excellent.

Pros:

Mooie locatie en omgeving

Cons:

Personeel deed zijn best, maar veel te weinig medewerkers. Waardoor o.a terras niet werd opgeruimd, incompleet ontbijt (glazen op, broodjes op, geen bestelling kunnen plaatsen, wachten etc)
Kamers niet op orde; vlekken in tapijt/ bedsprij/ spiegel, doorgelegen matras, slecht oud kussen, schaamharen in bad, stof op meubels, schimmel plekken op de muur.
Normaal niet zo kritisch, maar na zoveel punten behoorlijke tegenvaller bij verwachting van zo'n mooie locatie.

Stilvolles und hundefreundliches Hotel
Pros:

Das Hotel sieht sowohl von außen als auch von innen sehr elegant und konzeptionell stimmig aus. Unser Zimmer im EG war sehr schön und auch der Aufenthalt mit Hund war kein Problem. Beim Frühstück konnten wir uns mit Hund einfach in einen anderen Raum setzen, was sehr entspannt war.

Cons:

Bei unserer Ankunft um 16.00 Uhr war die Rezeption nicht besetzt und wir mussten knapp 15 Minuten auf einen Mitarbeiter warten.
Auf dem Zimmer gab es zwar Tassen und Kaffeekapseln... aber keine Kaffeemaschine.

Geen sprookje...
Cons:

We verbleven twee nachten in kasteel Doenrade. Bij binnenkomst dacht ik: “Nou, dit ziet er best netjes uit.” Maar zodra je iets beter kijkt, merk je dat de kamer een beetje de uitstraling heeft van een schoonmaakbeurt die nét niet helemaal is afgemaakt. Het bed was zo zacht dat je het gevoel had in een wolk te zakken, maar dan wel een wolk die dringend toe is aan vervanging. De kussens? Laten we zeggen dat ze meer weg hadden van licht opgevouwen theedoeken.

Het ontbijt was ook geen hoogtepunt. De keuze was beperkt en de roereieren deden me sterk denken aan een eiercake waar je plakje vanaf kon snijden. Origineel, dat wel.

Verder verliep alles via de app: inchecken, uitchecken, communiceren… We hebben één medewerker gezien, die de sleutel overhandigde en daarna waarschijnlijk weer in het digitale universum verdween. Het voelde allemaal wat onpersoonlijk voor een plek die juist om sfeer en charme zou moeten draaien.

En dat is misschien wel het meest jammer: de locatie heeft zóveel potentie. Het kasteel is prachtig, maar de beleving blijft achter. Met een beetje meer aandacht (en een paar echte kussens en echte scrambled eggs) zou het verblijf een stuk magischer kunnen zijn.
