The Halifax Experience- to fully appreciate Halifax and it’s unique atmosphere, you need to stay at this hotel. Locals make you feel welcome in the bar and is in walking distance of the main highlights. Basic fare, is a phrase to describe this hotel and you won’t be disappointed!
Good location and friendly staff. Good price and clean.
Good location, jackie very helpful and cheerfull
I stayed for 2 nights to attend a wedding in Halifax. The check in is quick and easy. The staff are nice and friendly. My room was clean and spacious, and the bed comfortable. It is only a few minutes walk into the town center, which is very handy. I had a nice peaceful stay and would rebook.
The price
Staff are great and Charlie checked me in very efficiently, car park is free, location good and the place was very cheap. After that it’s not so positive bed had hairs in it, small room in top floor was red hot (no fan) I left the window open but pelican crossing outside was noisy. Also no blind up at the velux window so sun wakes you at 5.30 in the summer. Both shared toilets were not working and I didn’t chance the shower. Stay here for 1 night if passing through and want a very cheap room.
Floor was a bit creaky but it's an old building so it's to be expected, the walls are thin so we could hear our neighbour, think it was a warthog lol
Lovely hotel. Toilet was quite far away from the room and the shower had no hot water but, other than that, a lovely room. Very spacious with tea, coffee, WiFi and towel all included. The landlady was absolutely lovely too. A great stay.
Very convenient
We couldn’t find the kettle although tea & coffee were there. The biggest problem was the boiler (I think it was a boiler) kept vibrating violently every 10 minutes or so, sounding like an elephant in labour, which continued all through the night.
Bed was comfortable amd room was clean. I just wanted a showerr a sleep amd a cup.of tea between long work days and the room was cheap enough.
However tv and kettle didnt work. Shower was downstairs and was very dirty ...couldnt get it to warm up. Was late so gave up in the end.
It’s okay
Was ok and I have stayed here before.
This time wasnt good. TV remote didnt work and shower tray would not drain sufficiently.
Reported both issues and neither were fixed or even attempted. The issue with the drain was known about so I'm not sure why the room is allowed to be used. I was offered a swap which I declined as I thought these issues would be dealt with.
Lighting in the corridor is not sufficient and at times quite dangerous.
Otherwise it was OK but I wouldn't stay here again.
A bargain in this day and age. A small room, quiet and clean.
My only problem was no opening window , it would be far too hot in Summer.
Exceptional value
This has been written without prejudice.
1) The property takes £48 pound from your account before you get there. Which when booking doesn’t state and you end up paying £48 per night instead of £43 for eight nights
2) No food as kitchen closed, yet advertised as bed and breakfast
3) French Fries on bedroom floor
4) Unfinished carpet
5) Bed not changed and then changed but with dirty bedding, which meant I slept on top of the bed for two nights.
6) Kerby grip on bathroom floor
7) Bathroom not cleaned
8) Above wardrobe not cleaned
9) Wi-Fi keeps dropping
10) Shower door that sticks, I couldn’t get out for five mins.
11) Light in bathroom gone so feels like showering in the dark, which didn’t help the No. 10 situation.
12) Car parking is limited and was called inconsiderate by the owner Dave, when I parked.
13) The insecurity of being told that the spare keys were missing to my room. My room access is through the cleaning room which doors are a metre apart and the absolute fear of the door which kept opening and thinking someone was trying to come in was frightening.
14) Cleaner saying I was ‘slagging’ her off, after I was overheard by her boyfriend complaining about the dirty room at the bar. She wanted to take me outside to kick my head in.
We travel for work regularly and it’s really hard to find a fairly priced independent hotel like this. I’m really OCD about cleanliness in hotels, I had no issues with this place at all. Would definitely recommend to friends and family.
I am not happy to post this review, but i was unable to stay in the room i was given because the smell made me ill, carpet soaking so took off wet stenching socks and left in bin,and handed back the key to the manager and left, poorly all evening and it ruined my weekend, as i then had to find another hotel. My bag also ruined as i didnt realise how wet that was so threw that away and used plastic bag.
Perfect for what we needed. The room was huge and had everything we required, train station just up the road. Cheap and cheerful is what we wanted and thats exactly what we got.
