Location. Breakfast was good and a special shout out to Ayoub and Ana for their warm welcome and hospitality. The only good thing about the stay at the hotel.
I recently stayed at Pestana Cidadela Cascais, and unfortunately, my experience fell far below what one would expect from a hotel that promotes itself as five-star.
My stay began with ants in the room, and I was bitten—something particularly concerning as I am diabetic and visiting from abroad. This is not a minor inconvenience; it carries the risk of a medical complication, and I would expect a hotel of this standard to recognize the seriousness of such a situation.
While the hotel did move me to another room, the replacement was equally disappointing. The curtains were broken, the walls were visibly dirty and dusty, the coffee machine did not work, and the safe was also broken.
Adding to this, there was a persistent unpleasant smell in the room, particularly coming from the bathroom area, which made the overall stay uncomfortable and far from relaxing.
After emailing the hotel, a staff member came to check the coffee machine but repeatedly insisted it was functioning—despite being unable to operate it herself. Following another reminder, the safe was eventually replaced, but astonishingly, it was installed upside down, reflecting a lack of basic attention to detail.
Housekeeping was extremely poor. Despite assurances from a supervisor that my room would be properly cleaned, I had to repeatedly chase the team, and even by 4pm the room had still not been serviced. Even when housekeeping did attend, basic items such as lotion were not replenished, and simple essentials like coffee capsules had to be repeatedly requested. It felt as though one had to chase or “beg” for the most basic services, with little sense of care or ownership from the staff. The general cleanliness of the room—including dusty walls—was unacceptable.
Service at reception was also disappointing. Requests seemed to be treated as an inconvenience rather than part of hospitality.
