Great location, good value. Good breakfast.
We stayed at the City Gate Pub for a long weekend in very rainy February. The pub is about 10 minutes walk from the rail station and very easy to find. Our room was clean, a good size and had everything we could possibly need with a well stocked mini bar and fridge, lots of hanging space, lovely toiletries and plenty of tea and coffee which was restocked during our stay. The bed was very comfortable and the hotel was quiet at night. We ate in the restaurant on our first evening and were served by the lovely Sam who was a constant friendly and cheery presence throughout our stay and looked after us really well. The pub is really well laid out with lots of comfortable places to sit, a huge garden and several areas for private functions which were being used for a steady stream of events while we were there. Our favourite touch was the wonderful log fire that Sam kept roaring throughout our stay and which we gravitated to after getting drenched on several outings. Altogether a lovely stay with friendly welcoming staff. We will stay again - next time in the summer and hopefully with better weather!
Great spot in the centre of Exeter not disturb by noise though. Arrived early but made to feel very welcome, rugby on the TV in the bar area added bonus. Nothing was too much trouble. Room very comfortable and clean. Breakfast excellent. Definitely recommend
I stayed for one night and it was perfectly located for the event I attended. On the plus side, the room was very comfortable and well appointed. The breakfast was perfect too! On the negative side, I couldn’t get the tv to work (probably dud batteries in the remote) and I couldn’t turn the extractor fan off in the bathroom, which slightly affected my sleep time. I assume there is an isolator switch, but for the life of me, I couldn’t find it! Saying that, I would book it again if the occasion arises in the future.
Check in was chaos, rooms are tired and breakfast takes over an hour to come. The staff don’t seem to care.
Avoid is my recommendation.
Friendly staff, really comfortable and modern room in a traditional pub with a great bar and fantastic menu. And to top it off the perfect location with everything Exeter has to offer on the doorstep.
Most attentive staff and most of all....."they served Peroni at the bar x
Excellent room and facilities. Great bar and menu. The staff were really friendly and attentive.
Nothing all good.
Location was very central. Reception staff very friendly.
Room was tiny! Hardly room to move around the bed. For this reason, quite a pricy stay
A very comfortable bed, beautiful clean bathroom with excellent shower and a delicious breakfast,
Everything was just right.
Clean, comfortable bed. Very friendly staff
