City Gate

It was a lovely to see the hotel was as good as the facebook pictures suggested. A mixture of old comfort nostalgia with modern conservatory & out door area. Some of us were in 2 rooms on the top floor which would be a problem for some as there's no lift, but we managed ok. Other person on 2nd floor in bigger room. The air-conditioning is spot on, like a fridge when we walked in on a hot day & soon got warmer when we adjusted it. Modern, clean bathroom with good shower pressure . There was no noise eventhough the cathedral & high street are a short 5 min walk. Porridge with oatmilk/toasted almonds/berry jam was very nice. We would definitely recommend.

This is a little gem. Rooms were quiet and charming and individual with a really well stocked mini bar and complementary port and flapjack! We didn't eat dinner here but the menu looked very nice, and we would eat in the restaurant if we stayed here again. Breakfast was very tasty with a freshly cooked hot menu or the usual table of cereal, pastries, yogurt. All the staff we met were very friendly and attentive. There is no car park and I didn't fancy the multi-storeys, though they are probably fine. I booked a space at Toppers car park on Richmond Road, via JustPark, which was a 5 minute walk away. I didn't see a lift so if that's important to you, there are three flights of stairs to the top rooms.

The up keep of the period building was to a high standard. Having breakfast in the lovely conservatory was a great start to the day. Staff were very friendly & helpful.

Tolles altes Gebäude, schönes Zimmer, gutes Nachtessen, sehr nettes Personal.

Schoon, vriendelijk, nostalgisch en gezellig. Het buiten gebeuren maakte het helemaal af. Ook prima gegeten. Komen zeker terug.

Arranged my husband’s surprise 50th, the team went above and beyond , offering a fabulous meal and catering for everyone’s needs, my husband had an amazing time .

This is second time at Citygate Exeter. It is a lovely pub/hotel. The staff are very helpful & friendly. The food is very good. The bathroom is very clean. The rooms & beds are very comfortable. The atmosphere is very calm & peaceful. Would definitely book again & highly recommend.

City Gate was everything we hoped it would be. We visit Exeter frequently but had never stayed here before but will definitely stay here in the future. The attention to detail was very evident, which is sadly lacking in most hotels unfortunately, having stayed in quite a few other hotels in Exeter.

It is a great little hotel, close to the city centre. The rooms are very comfortable. The little touches like the flap jack and port were great. The staff were lovely.
