Top rated hotel
Pros:

Our second visit to this hotel for a winter break with friends. Everything about the holiday from start to finish was excellent. The hotel location, facilities and quality of food, drinks and service was exceptional. It is most likely that we'll return again at this time next year

Great hotel but the wine self service wine is poor.
Pros:

This was our 4th visit to the RIU Gran Canaria Hotel.Again everything was up to standard except for one thing which I shall mention at the end.I complimented the managers when they were doing their walk around the hotel , they looked at me with a look of who is he ? Ok gents a pat on the back. Good food to choose from, plenty of sun beds and a nice stroll around the grounds with a drink stop if you are thirsty.Location is spot on, walking into melonares on a reasonable flat promenade, with nice restaurants and bars. Rooms are very good.
Now the bad bit ! The self service wine is disgusting. The white wine is has NO dry tang to it.Rosie wine is diluted water. The red wine was Rough I mean rough.Riu I'm not expecting a €20 standard bottle of wine from a self service pump, but what you provide is a disgusting and a very low quality of wine for your guest.Either up the standard or take out the self service pumps.

Pros:

Friendly staff, standard room we had was very big and very clean.plenty of sunbeds, lovely food, pools great too.

Cons:

Although there's plenty of sunbeds,in the area by restaurant/bar and infinity pool the sunbeds had towels on them early in the morning and no one on them for hours, such a shame people do this.

Could Be cleaner
Pros:

AS my wife and I are Riu Class Diamond Members we found the following. Food plenty of variety/good quality. hotel ambience good excellant staff and friendly service. However this is a big hotel with plenty of walking to the pools from thje hotel so could do with more lifts to your room or get used to the stairs. Our biggest gripe was the poor ,shabby dated rooms, we are not! dirty people but the standard of cleaning by cleaners left much to be desired. Hence no tip. Not to the Riu standard we are used to at all the other Hotels. Sorry dont see us coming back unless rooms up to a better standard.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Pros:

Just come back after a week highly recommend, rooms very nice comfy beds so clean everywhere staff extremely friendly helpful specially the young porter lads, cleaning ladies great cleaned rooms brilliant everyday, food great even if you fussy like my hubby quite few places to eat at various times if you miss breakfast etc, the entertainment was fantastic specially the Friday rui white night its not just for the young we loved it and we older generation. its in great spot walk out of rear and on sea front great for us as its quite end of meloneras but easy walk to shops and sand dunes. loads sun loungers adult part as well, sports bar loads sport television if you interested, can honestly say no complaints definitely return.

A great week in the Winter sun
Pros:

We stayed here in early January, all inclusive. Great location but there is a walk to the sandy beach, even though the sea is about 10 metres from the front of the hotel. It's worth the walk, as the beach is almost certainly the largest beach that you've ever seen.
Our room was excellent with a sea view.
There are various restaurants which aren't all open every evening - you need to book 3 of these through the RIU app and they do get booked up. The main restaurant is open every day and you don't need to book.
The Sports bar is open 24 hours.
Food is very good, a variety of different offerings, all buffet style. Plenty of healthy options. If you a 'burger and chips' addict, this hotel is probably not for you.
Plenty of sunbeds but those near the infinity pool get 'reserved' early - none of these were still available at 8am.
Drinks are mainly branded - Amstell lager, branded spirits including Tanqueray gin.
The wine is draught, though and not great. Wine in the Asian and Italian restaurants is served from the bottle and much better.
Every Friday night there is a themed party. This is pretty wild - 'Ibiza for older people'. Great fun. Finishes promptly at 11pm.
There are lots of activities, including several fitness classes which are popular.
Staff are excellent throughout the hotel.
Overall, we had a great week here and we would definitely return.

Underwhelming experience – not the quality we expected for the price
Pros:

We’ve just returned from a family holiday at the TUI RIU Gran Canaria and unfortunately left feeling quite underwhelmed, especially given the premium price tag and high expectations.

The biggest disappointment for us was the food. We are not fussy eaters at all, but the quality and lack of choice quickly became an issue. The menus were very repetitive, flavours were bland, and food was consistently cold across every restaurant we ate in. On several occasions, crockery was visibly dirty, which really took away from the experience and raised hygiene concerns.

Service in the restaurants was also poor. Staff often appeared inattentive and, at times, quite rude. My husband had to clear dirty plates from our table more than once just to make space, which is not what you expect at an all-inclusive resort of this standard.

We were travelling with our 10-month-old baby, and the lack of support for families was particularly disappointing. There was little to no assistance in helping us find a suitable table that could accommodate a high chair and our pushchair, and this became a recurring issue throughout the holiday. It often felt like we were an inconvenience rather than welcomed guests.

Drinks were another let-down. All cocktails were pre-made from machines and tasted mostly of juice and ice, with very little alcohol. After a few days, we found ourselves walking to a local bar for a properly made cocktail, which rather defeats the purpose of booking an all-inclusive holiday.

On a positive note, the room was clean, comfortable, and well suited for a family of three. The bed was very comfortable, and the travel cot provided for our baby was excellent, with a good-quality mattress — something we really appreciated.

Sadly, despite these positives, we wouldn’t return. The hotel did not live up to its reputation or price point, and overall the experience left us feeling disappointed rather than relaxed. We wouldn’t recommend it to families with young children looking for attentive service and good-quality dining.
