We enjoyed our 2 night stay here and we had a very good evening meal.
A little out dated but we expected that as it’s a Moorland hotel and would rather it that way. Very near to the Hotel is the Drakes bike trail and one way is Tavistock and the other is Plymouth so makes excellent place to stay if you like biking😊
Staff were welcoming and helpful. Room was clean and welcoming although a little tired. Breakfast was pleasant - not outstanding but all ok. Plenty of tea/coffee in the room.
Was as described. Dog friendly. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Shame they don't do vegan food but guess not many places do on the moors.
Nice rooms for the price, had everything you need. Walls are a bit thin. Owner was a very nice chap. The food in the restaurant was reasonable, overall a pleasant stay
Nice area, good food and drink options, easy parking
Attentive staff excellent restaurant a great place to stay
Friendly staff, great food and lovely views!
all ok bit drab but near Plymouth, needs updating and electrics and wifi were poor
Hotel is nowhere near the 8.8 rating on website. So bad we left after two hours at property. Hotel is tatty and unloved. Room decor was dated and scuffed. Slide door to balcony corroded and difficult to move. Balcony drainage channel with many cigarette ends. Shower grout mouldy. Bathroom floor damaged and lifting. Basin did not drain. Poor lighting in bathroom. Bedroom carpet old and stained. Small bloodstain on bed duvet. Kettle dirty on outside and stale water in it. Television damaged with part of screen blacked out and lines from crack. Dirt , debris and staining behind bed and bedside tables. The only positive feature is the surrounding area view.
Everything was v clean. We stayed in the Wotter Room on the second floor. Yes it could all do with a bit of a paint in patches but the room is charming and huge. The view was amazing - we could see the fireworks in Plymouth the first night that we stayed.
Had a fab Nepalese curry on Wednesday followed by an Indian pudding which was delicious. Steak on the second night.
The hotel is on the edge of Dartmoor but close enough to the local tourist attractions.
We will definitely return.
Great location. Very welcoming staff
A dated hotel which has charm but lacking finesse. We had the superior room which first impressions was great but the wallpaper was pealing, the shower didnt work and the jacuzzi bubbles didnt work. We had to kill several flies which woke up with the warmth. The room was cold on arrival but the heating turns on at 4.30 and then takes ages to reach the room although a small fan heater is provided
Staff are freindly and very attentive, genuinely good small team. Food was beautiful and service was great, all costs were proportionate and well worth the money, which was not expensive at all. Great getaway, peaceful and quiet, great location for walking, has a DIY laundry for when needed, art deco a little outdated but the hotel has changed hands many times lately, its clean and comfortable what more do you need. Will be back
The hote is in a remote area and needs an upgrade but is a great place for people that want to hike in the National Park across the road.
Hotel is a bit tired and will benefit a refurbishment - great location with amazing views - good food & drink choice. Good breakfast
So wlit was annover night stay due to visiting friends before heading for a family holiday. Family room was an excellent size with proper beds and mattress for the children. The views from the room were oitbof this world. The staff were very helpful and polite.
The staff were great. There was nothing they couldn’t do to help. It really made the stay
Friendly welcome. Good food.
A warm welcome and friendly staff. The food is excellent and the room spacious. We would recommend this hotel for a stay on Dartmoor and also for a meal if you are just passing through.
I stayed in the largest room on the top floor which has a large comfy bed a desk and a corner sofa for lounging on to watch TV. Bathroom is large with good shower and jacuzzi bath. The view from the room is amazing looking down towards Plymouth Hoe in the distance.Evening meal was delicious (lamb madras) as was full English breakfast. Staff really nice and very friendly
