This is one of the quirkiest hotels I’ve ever stayed in, with its charmingly uneven floors, narrow hallways, and little stairways that wind up and down throughout the building. It truly feels like stepping back in time. The location is perfect, right beside the old gate, and from our window we had a wonderful view of the cathedral. Our room was lovely, the staff were friendly and very helpful, and the breakfast was thoroughly enjoyable.
The property was spotlessly clean and close to where we needed to be.
The slippery metal steps outside - could do with some non slip paint on them as I slipped! 🤣
Location and the discount for the car park when u stay there .
Quirky.
Our room was clean and bed very comfortable however the heating never went off throughout the night and found out that the thermostat couldn’t be turned down so had to sleep with window open which was noisy outside, shower head was blocked and leaking, tv was pretty bad .
No one to speak to in the morning as they were busy doing breakfast.
Wouldn’t stay again .
Een prachtig oud pand, heel vriendelijk personeel. Er was ook heel de nacht iemand aanwezig. Prachtig uitzicht en een goed ontbijt!
Historic building with quirky sloping floors, small rooms and steep, narrow staircases. Staff service top rate. Excellent choice and quality at breakfast. Outdoor roof terrace with cathedral view.
Bannisters need safety attention. Windows and blinds need renovation. Sinks in rooms need splashback.
Breakfast was excellent
Perfekte Lage!
Excellent location. Friendly and helpful staff.
The hotel is very olde worldy with fabulous staff. The location in central Canterbury is ideal with everything you might want to visit being easily accessible. Breakfast is served either in your room or in one of two small dining rooms. The continental breakfast that comes as standard with your booking is fine or you can upgrade at an additional cost to a full English breakfast. The building itself is rather "wonky" which is charming and given the age of the building, probably to be expected. If traveling to Canterbury by car, don't forget to buy discounted parking via the hotel. The hotel has many more rooms than it appears to from it's facade and includes a lounge area, outdoor patio area and licensed bar. Our room, although not large, was clean and comfortable as was the en suite. Loved the super white, fluffy towels! The addition of a fierce free standing fan was very much appreciated during the current heat wave. Staff were friendly and very helpful.
We initially drove right past the hotel as part of the hotel and Cathedral gate has scafolding on it at the moment. Directions were not as good as they could have been and we would have appreciated an explaination of how the drop down bollards work and that if driving to drop off luggage, there is a need to go through them.
It was clean and quiet and the room was a good size
I asked for a Cathedral view and while technically true it wasn’t exactly a good view
Nice hotel facing the square. I did one night on a Thursday and it was quiet.
There are many nice touches: the staff is all great, they offer earplugs if you need, I had a room with the share bathroom with another room but it was not a problem as we were just 2 people and you have a sink in the bedroom. All perfect.
