Grand Hotel La Tonnara

At check-in we asked about the beach and pool. They said since we booked through Hotels.com (Expedia), both had daily surcharges. I showed them the listing on Hotels.com, which had no surcharges listed, except for dinner. They insisted that beach and pool cost extra. I contacted Hotels.com customer service who inspected the policy they have on file for this hotel. Nowhere in the policy does it say that the beach and pool are a surcharge cost! They tried calling the hotel twice to correct the situation, but no one picked up. We ended up paying an extra 32 euros for 2 days at the beach, and never used the pool.

The second issue was the air conditioning. Our first room was sea view and 27C (81F) degrees inside. We turned on the AC, but after 30 minutes, the temperature didn't change. Apparently the windows had to be fully closed and the metal blind fully down, or the AC didn't work. We did that, but it still didn't work. They admitted the AC was malfunctioning in that room, so they moved us to a pool-view room that was 25C (77F). The AC didn't work there either! They said they had no other rooms available, so we spent 3 days in a 25C (77F) room. No refund was ever offered for the non-functioning AC.

Nice beach, big rooms, good breakfast. The staff tried to be helpful, but every issue ended with "I have to ask my boss" and the boss only knew one word, "No." The boss needs to adhere to the policy she agreed to with Hotels.com and relearn the meaning of the word "hospitality".

Beautiful hotel, great location, lovely breakfast. All staff (Reception, Cleaners, Breakfast and Dinning Room Staff) were particularly attentive to my wife's needs (wheelchair bound) which made our stay all the more enjoyable. We will return to the Grand Hotel La Tonnara.

Gentili, cortesi e ospitali.
Posizione comoda e tranquilla per la spiaggia.
Necessita però di uno spostamento in auto per una passeggiata serale.

Svegliarsi la mattina e vedere il mare è il paesaggio più emozionante che si possa desiderare in una giornata di sole di dicembre. Stanza molto pulita e organizzata. Il personale, nello specifico Antonella, ci ha spiegato in maniera garabata e accogliente come si sarebbe svolto il nostro soggiorno senza tralasciare nulla al caso. Una struttura di pregevole bellezza in cui si può riposare con il sottofondo del mare.

The hotel was very nice and right across the street from the water. The beach was across the street from the hotel and there are beach chairs and umbrellas to use and bathrooms close by. The breakfast was very good with many choices or fruit, pastries, cereals, eggs, meat and cheese. The woman who works there is very nice. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was a good size and had a walkout balcony, with a beautiful view of the beach. There was a sink on the balcony to rinse your bathing suit and a rack to hang them on. They was plenty of parking and there is a bus stop out front. There is a nice pool as well. We quite enjoyed our stay and would stay there again and would recommend this hotel.

The hotel was very nice but the restaurant was too elegant for the hotel didn’t feel comfortable eating there

One of the worst hotel experiences of our lives. Staff NOT welcoming to U.S travelers. Only a few of the staff speak English. No air conditioning throughout hotel. No air conditioning in rooms. No parking. No bell staff to assist with baggage. On second day of stay, NO WATER. Staff was notified of issues with water and room and there idea of help was to offer another room with no air and no water. Local beach parking lots are littered badly with trash, broken glass and local community does not seem to take pride in their amazing coastline and beaches. Even the local Italian hotel guests treated us with disdain and we knew we were not welcome as Americans in Amantea or the so-called Grand Hotel La Tonnara.

Hotel was nice with good location in front of beach. What upset me was since I booked through Hotels.com I had to pay for the umbrella and chairs at the beach. Very odd policy that was not communicated when I booked.

Ottima struttura fronte mare, pulizia camera eccellente, colazione ottima, bella piscina, sempre pulita, cordialità del personale, stanza utilizzata quadrupla comfort ottima e grande, letto un po' duro. Zona tranquilla e riservare

Apparentemente decente mai ha colpito la mancanza di professionalità e di senso del business. senza un informazione adeguata al momento del check-in quando ho lasciato l'albergo mi hanno chiesto 70 euro per "la pulizia del mio cane" io non discuto il fatto che si possa pagare un supplemento ma quando si fa un qualsiasi tipo di contratto - chek-in - bisogna informare il cliente.Io ho pagato per evitare discussioni...poi si lamentano che le aziende falliscono....certo farò sicuramente una pessima pubblicità con la mia cerchia di amici e conoscenti

The furnishings are bit dated, but the hotel is fab. The breakfast was great, the staff friendly, and the view of the beach fabulous! It was really great to go to the pool after being at the beach as well. I would stay here again.
