Quite a nice place to visit. Friendly and less traffic
Rooms - Are small and congested, no exciting view from the room
Breakfast - Limited spread and food was cold
Service - Mixed bag as service is on the slow side and staff helpfulness is patchy
Location is central
Limited amenities available
Dinner was average and quality of food was average
Wonderful and charming hotel. Historic building with a lot of charm. Excellent staff and service. I will choose the Queens Hotel again and again.
We stayed here as part of a package hotel across SA with Tui. The hotel is listed as 4 star but we felt our experience was that of a 3 star at best.
Hotel has 2 floors of bedrooms, with restaurant on 1st floor and breakfast room on ground floor. The room we were allocated was on 2nd floor. Bathroom was bijou and tired- you had to close the door fully to get to toilet and shower shelves weren’t flat so stuff slipped off during your shower. Bed comfort was fine but the provided coverlet only just covered bed, hence too small for two adults. However worst part was that there was (I suspect for some time) a faulty on roof air on unit which was very loud. Reported to reception - answer being no we can’t move you, so you’ll have to cope. Hence little sleep.
Breakfast was ok but of a standard more akin to a B&B.
Really pleased this was a one night only hotel.
Our stay at the Queens Hotel in Oudtshoorn during March was as enjoyable as it is every year!
We noticed a few staff changes but there is always a welcoming greeting when one arrives or enters the Reception area.
Nothing is too much trouble for anyone which is a rare thing these days!
Much to our delight our "old" friend Patrick is still at the Queens after about ten years which is huge credit to the Hotel and to him.
We had two bedroooms on the second floor overlooking the Pool area which were great - comfy beds and upmarket bathrooms.
A lot of the bedrooms face the Main Road but are equally well equipped.
Interesting old photographs adorn the walls showing the British Royal Family on a visit to Oudtshoorn in 1947.
However this is not how the hotel got its name - the original hotel was built in 1880 and it retains that colonial atmosphere.
The gentlemen from Ireland who owned the hotel was also the Oudtshoorn Home Guard during the Anglo Boer War and he was awarded the Queens Medal for his efforts and so he named his hotel after this Honour.
Sitting at the Pool area is peaceful and lovely - a beautiful swimming pool - but perhaps some new or revamped loungers and newly covered mattrasses would enhance the pleasure of being out there at the end of a busy day.
We had several casual meals at Cafe Brule which is part of the hotel - delicious food and good service which we appreciated.
The breakfasts are included in the room rate and they are good!
All in all a happy stay and we will hopefully be back there again next year!!
Penny and Jackie.
Nice quant hotel, small town charm, but room lacks personality. Clean neat & almost clinical.
Beds were very hard and quite noisy until town settled down, breakfast reasonable. Good off street parking..
Lovely pavement coffee shop, sadly closes at 7pm , then no real bar or lounge
the staff are friendly and professional. the meals are excellent. my fillet was cooked to perfection. the bedrooms are comfortable, clean and well catered for.
just the bartender spent time on his cellphone rather than check on his patrons' beverages. i had to wave for attention. but the wine was excellent.
We had just the 1 night here en route from Graaff Reinett to Franschhoek. The hotel is on a busy, noisy main road, just around the corner from a large shopping mall.
Positives were that the staff were helpful and friendly. We had dinner from the set menu which was good value with a reasonably priced wine list. Breakfast was fine, with a choice of cooked and cold items, including omelette cooked to order.
Negatives, beside the location, were our room (112) which was very cramped and basic with no fridge or safe. We kept the curtains closed to avoid the view which was basically the roof of a neighbouring warehouse. However, the bed was comfortable, the air conditioning effective and the shower acceptable.
For 1 night it was OK, but for a longer stay we'd look elsewhere.
Nettes Personal schönes altes Hotel
We were disappointed to find our room smelling very heavily of mold, discovered cockroaches and spiders in the room also. We could not stay the night.
The Queens hotel was a great stop over on our way to Plettenburg Bay. The hotel is clean and the staff very helpful. We had dinner at the hotel - beautiful food.
What a lovely stylish old hotel. Lovely rooms with good linen, modern bathrooms. Very friendly staff. Colony restaurant was a winner - excellent food and service. Good location in town. Sundowners under the vine covered patio in lovely outdoor area. Swimming pool
Our stay here was comfortable with a reasonable shower and the bed was ok.
We feel the hotel needs a little love and attention as in places the room was tired.
The food and breakfast were good and the staff friendly!
The hotel is well placed in the centre of the town.
What can I say , it’s an old house with a lot of charisma and I like that very much .
The employees are very friendly and helpful the food in the restaurant was just great . So if you do like old hotels with little blisters you are just right there .
Prima hotel in het centrum van de stad. Beetje out-dated maar prima prijs kwaliteit
from the day i made the bookings until we checked out the service was exceptional , from the friendly staff to the clean room and the food in the restaurants was exceptional
clasic stylish hotel with grandeur
We enjoyed an unexpected 2 night stay at this lovely hotel when our car broke down. The staff were wonderful and went out of their way to make us feel at home. Special mention must go to Chantelle, Dan and Kiewiet. The rooms were clean and comfortable. We enjoyed dining at The Colony but we particularly enjoyed our meals at Cafe Brûlé - everything was fresh and delicious. We will definitely be back.
