Dreamy stay
Pros:

What a gorgeous property and the staff was truly amazing!

Cons:

It was a lovely room but when it says a suite I expect the room to be larger and have a lot more space

Great location and outstanding food. Poor hotel/reception service!
Pros:

The entire Babylonstoren is breathtaking. We had dinner at The bakery - the food was outstanding and the singing excellent. Breakfast at Babel was also excellent. Service at both restaurants was excellent.

Cons:

When arriving at the hotel it is not clearly marked where reception is. Parked and had to take my own luggage to the reception as there were no porters around to assist. The cottage bathroom only had a bath - the shower was outside. There is more than enough space for a shower inside? What happens in the middle of winter when it’s cold and raining? Also no table to put a toiletry and makeup bag on? The phone from the room didn’t work even though we told this to reception on arrival and they claimed they had fixed it. Once again leaving the hotel there was no one around to assist with luggage. I really feel your hotel staff need more training in customer service.

Relaxing, luxurious property that had everything you want and need on premises
Pros:

Wonderful breakfast buffet, great selection. would like to have one additional hot item offered like crepe or pancakes. Property was spectacular. Italian feast dinner was fabulous. Friendly helpful staff. Rooms had cracks in doors and windows that allowed spiders and bugs into rooms.

Cons:

Wish there were screens on window and door

Stay somewhere else but make sure you visit.
Pros:

The gardens are beautiful. The staff are super friendly. It is a well oiled machine that deals with constant day visitors and hotel guests 24/7.

Cons:

It's the victim of its own success. The rooms are tired, and are in need of a make over (grouting/ painting) but they are probably so full that they don't have time to do them. The guest pool is small with not enough seats for all the guests at one time. It was probably once a great size but then they expanded and expanded the accommodation. We ended up sitting by the pool near the spa, which needed to be cleaned. It is very expensive to stay here. There are major roadworks at the main entrance which have been ongoing for 2 years and are nowhere near finished. If you don't time your journey accordingly you can be sitting there for 20 mins, this makes visiting other vineyards or leaving the estate very frustrating.

Incredibly dissappointing, not worth the money at all 🙁
Pros:

The room was lovely and a nice size. The food and wine was also nice.

Cons:

We were left severely disappointed by babylonstoren and this was for two reasons: the service and the facilities. The service was the most disappointing part of our stay, we could not believe how poor this was. When you stay at a 5 star hotel you expect 5 star hotel service; the service we received was barely 4 star service.

When we arrived we weren’t given any Information about the hotel, we were given no tour and requests we made to book into activities were met with an awkward response. The host came into our room grabbed a copy of the hotel map (which already had marks on it from the previous guests in the room) and spent 30 seconds explaining where our room was. That was it.

Simple things like the staff failed to smile at us when walked past and this made us feel really uneasy about the place… honestly almost all of the staff seemed like they were not happy in their roles - this was so clear to see. A smile goes so far and babylonstoren completely and utterly failed on smiling. I do need to add that there were 3-4 staff members who were very smiling and welcoming but the majority were not. When we checked out they just asked me to pay and didn’t even ask us how our stay was?!

The second issue was the facilities. The pool water was consistently dirty, the sauna wasn’t on and when turned on it got to a maximum of 60 degrees, the jacuzzis were luke warm. Really simple things like service at the pool was non existent, the water fridge in the pool area was empty…. The spa itself is a real let down. It was built about 15 years ago and has not had a touch up since. We spent over £1k a night at babylonstoren and I am shocked how poor it was. We’ve stayed at some lovely 5 star hotels brands, the likes of six senses, four seasons, the Oberoi…. Even the newt which is a sister hotel to babylonstoren and this place falls woefully below its supposed peer group. What a shocking experience, please do not go unless price is <$400 p/night - trust me it’s not worth it.
