The staff could have been a bit more friendly and accommodating.
Excellent location near the train station, nice breakfast, friendly staff. We had a room with a nice balcony overlooking town (one morning, a herd of sheep made it's way across the nearby hillside, we loved it)! All around perfect place for our few days in Zermatt!

We stayed a the Hotel Butterfly last month when we visited Zermatt.
We appreciated being picked up at the train station in a golf cart in this pristine Alpine town. We didn't realize how close the hotel is to the train station.Our room was clean, the bed was comfortable, and the hot water pressure was heavenly. But the best part of our hotel experience was our small terrace wirh a view of the Gornerat. Sitting there enjoying the crisp Alpine air admiring the mountains was a highlight of our stay.
Switzerland is expensive, and Zermatt is doubly so. The Hotel Butterfly was a relatively reasonably priced place to stay. We were there the first week of May, one of the few "shoulder" werks when the town is relatively uncrowded. While the funicular was down for repairs, we got some great photos of the Matterhorn before boarding the Glacier Express train.
A perfect stay? No. Staff has a tendency to be clipped, even by Swiss standards. The breakfast was merely adequate. The cake served at the daily tea was relatively tasteless, and perhaps a little stale.
But we thought the Hotel Butterfly was a solid option in a breathtakingly beautiful town.
