The Stag Hotel

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Given we were a jovial group of 14, The Stag team could not have been more welcoming, helpful or impressively organised during our stay.

Between us, I’m fairly sure we sampled most of what was on offer: excellent coffees, an eye-watering selection of gins and all the essential bar snacks required for serious decision-making. Later, we descended on the restaurant en masse. With a party our size and a mix of 2–3 courses each, chaos was a real possibility… but everything arrived together, accurately and most importantly, it was delicious.

They even happily brought out a birthday cake and led the obligatory celebratory sing-song.

Check-in was easy and the rooms were of a very high standard. Each is beautifully decorated, complete with witty notes about water temperature, gentle reminders of what shouldn’t go down the loo, window warnings (listed building quirks!) and interesting facts about the history behind each room name.

Breakfast was no exception - a huge choice included within our B&B booking (exactly what’s needed after a night involving gin-based research).

Unanimously, all 14 of us agreed we’ll be back at The Stag next year, and if you can please a group that size, you’re doing something right!

From the moment we arrived, we were wrapped in genuine warmth and care. The hotel staff are nothing short of amazing — attentive, gracious, and always smiling, making us feel truly welcomed and valued throughout our stay. Every interaction felt thoughtful and effortless.

The rooms are absolutely wonderful: beautifully dressed, elegant, and impeccably maintained, with every detail reflecting comfort and refined taste. It felt indulgent yet inviting, the kind of place you instantly relax into.

This hotel is a rare gem where exceptional service meets beautiful surroundings. We are already looking forward to going back — and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone seeking a truly lovely and memorable stay.

I can not recommend the Stag hotel highly enough, from the contact to making the booking for 14 of us to actually being there, the atmosphere is so welcoming, the staff are 5* and could not do enough to accommodate us, the food and service was superb. All 14 of us have said lets go there again next year. It was clean. Amazing weekend, thank you to all the staff.

We booked as a large group for a friend‘s birthday. The hotel had good parking and looked pretty from the front as well as the back. Quirky rooms, I got lost repeatedly but that was part of the fun and it is a listed building after all, with all-out stag decor and a fantastic chandelier. The staff were going above and beyond to make us feel welcome and we really enjoyed both great food and drinks. Everyone loved our night away.

We had lunch in the restaurant. Food was inedible and the service non existent. Staff are rude and surly, wouldn’t recommend.

I have absolutely nothing bad to say about this hotel. The room was beautiful and very clean, the food was amazing, the staff were friendly and helpful and so was the manager who served us breakfast in the morning. It’s also a beautiful location. They embrace the Christmas season and their Christmas decor was stunning, I felt like I was in a Christmas movie. The atmosphere was calm and inviting. I have driven through Lyndhurst many times on my way to the New Forest and always thought it was a lovely quaint little village but now I’ve had the pleasure to stay there I will definitely be staying at this hotel again. The cost for bed and breakfast it very reasonable for the standard you get. Absolutely would recommend.

We stayed for a couple of nights , the room was very comfortable with good facilities. There was a wide breakfast selection. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Evening menu available also has a good selection and the food served was very good . Great location with access to the high street shopping and walking in the New Forest .

The first thing I will review is the service here, impeccable. Jake and Wade make this place a memorable experience. The food absolutely incredible. I 100% recommend this restaurant to everyone! We had the best experience and cannot wait to return.

We had 3 nights here .Lovely room nice& clean staff are very friendly and helpful Breakfast was good all freshly cooked.Hotel is right in centre so you have everything in easy walking distance.Hotel is listed building so no lift it is stairs .

The whole experience was excellent from start to end. Beautiful room, friendly staff, good quality breakfast, free parking. Can't fault anything about it. We also ate in the restaurant in the evening and again, the menu was varied and exceptional quality.

Very comfortable bed, lovely room, bit cold due to old building, got hot with heating but easy to adjust heaters if needed.
Natrow and steep stairs so need to be capable for this with big bags, was fine for us but tight.
So easy to walk and hike straight from the hotel.

Car park kind of small but otherwise a fantastic pub with great modern rooms. Friendly pub and lovely check in. Right in the centre of town and a great place to stay. Would highly recommend

Had a lovely stay at the stag, friendly helpful staff, clean room. Lovely breakfast and evening meal. Even free parking. Dog friendly too great central location for shops,

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at The Stag. The room was spotless, beautifully decorated with an incredible bathroom, the staff were warm and welcoming, and breakfast was a solid 11/10. The pub itself has a great atmosphere, with a mix of friendly locals and fellow holiday makers. It’s also incredibly dog-friendly; they even served our pup his very own sausage in a bowl at breakfast, which was such a thoughtful touch. Parking is easy and convenient, just out the back of the pub. Perfectly situated in the heart of the New Forest, it’s an ideal base for exploring the area.

Check in was fast and efficient - thank you Liam, who also showed us to our room. Our room was large and spacious. Unfortunately, the only thing that let it down was the fact that we were unable to open the windows. Due to the hotel being Grade 2 listed - replacing windows is not straightforward! However, a fan was supplied in the room - bit too noisy to use overnight. A great stay though, staff are super friendly and helpful and a great breakfast!

Took my mum as a surprise for her birthday.
Again a lovely welcome and bright, clean and comfortable room and bathroom.
Staff are friendly and attentive. Fantastic breakfast and evening meals.
Lovely atmosphere.
The staff put up balloons and a happy birthday banner for my mum which was really thoughtful and a lovely surprise.
Will be back.

The Stag remains my favourite place to stay in Lyndhurst because of the personal service and the food - very tasty and substantial
