Hotel Rae Bukit Bintang

We planned to stay there for 2 weeks but the room was not what we expected. It was musty with an air conditioning unit that broke the night we arrived. It was repaired, but due to my wife's allergies we had to vacate sooner. The service varied from very poor when we arrived since they seemed very disinterested, but when we needed repair work done they were quite attentive, and they seemed understanding of our need to leave early and to approve a refund of our money. (See below)

The location is good, very close to many restaurants and street food alley. There are no refrigerators in the room which is a problem for us since we are full-time travelers and planned to stay for longer. There is one tiny refrigerator for the entire hotel which was a problem for us.
UPDATE: after telling me that they would refund our money and only charge us for one day, they did not allow Airbnb to credit us back our money. Airbnb got involved, so this hotel tried to stiff us. I have since changed my opinion and my rating due to their untrusting follow through.

Clean and friendly hotel close to Alor st (Food st), Bukit Bintang in central KL.
Go for the larger sized rooms and they are very reasonable and equipped. Great staff 😃

Location is good. Close to shopping mall, eatery & pub.

Rooms are spacious and clean. But the hotel is running down. Dated bathroom setting. Old furniture. Noisy Street. No safety box in room.

With the price tag of USD 45 a night. I believe you can easily get a better place to stay.

Hotel is showing signs of being old and tired.
Rooms are pretty shabby.
The pillows were shockingly bad.
Do not understand why hotels do not understand the importance of good, clean comfortable pillows.

Overall experience was bad. What u see in the picture was not true reflections of the room. Room and walk way very very dusty. Room had a stale smell. Poor ventilations. In the end had to check out and checked into another hotel nearby.

Easy to walk around Bukit Bintang, it’s next to Jalan Alor Food Street, near to Bukit Bintang Changkat Street Bar. A short distance to Pavillion Shopping Mall, close by public transportation (MRT, Go KL Free bus shuttle and Monorail Station. The room was good, staff are friendly. Will stay this hotel again.

The pictures provided on the profile are not an accurate representation of the actual facility. Creaky wooden floors, thin walls so you can hear everything your neighbors are doing. The cups looked like they had not been washed in a while, room smelled of cigarette smoke, toilet made a horrendous noise when flushed and to top it all off, the tv didn't work (just diskotek-like static).

Would not stay there again nor recommend to anyone unless there is an extreme desire to feel uncomfortable.

Hotel Rae's location is fantastic, tucked away among some of the hot spots (Jalan Alor, several malls, nightlife) in KL. However, most of the advantages stop there. This is a rundown, budget hotel. I'm usually fine with that type of thing, but the reviews don't tell the whole story, and I'm actually surprised the things that people leave out.

When we checked in, the lobby and exterior were a bit outdated, but nothing to get worked up about. The front-desk clerk was amazing, offering quick check-in and advice about places in the area, travel, etc. The problem was when I leaned to my right and saw a small sign, outlining prices for hourly stays. Then it hit me. This is a hotel that caters not only to budget travelers, but to women of ill-repute and their solicitors.

Well, maybe it's an outdated sign, I thought. Wrong. When we went to our room, people were having loud sex next door. I didn't enjoy it quite as much as they did. The room had gray-white towels, mold on ceiling in bathroom, soiled floors, stained sheets, and reeked of fresh cig. WARNING: DESPITE THIS PLACE CALLING ITSELF "NON-SMOKING," IT IS ASSUREDLY FULL SMOKING. EVERYWHERE. We asked to be moved to a new room, no problem, but cleanliness and smoke smell were still problematic. The manager apologized when we left.

The hotel was cheap and comfortable, definitely worth it. However, the bathroom was not so clean, but the room was good & spacious. There is easy access. It has great connectivity, it is located near Bukit Bintang station of the Monorail Line which goes to KL Sentral and connects with the KLIA Ekspress and KLIA. Transit which both go to KLIA and klia2. I would definitely go back again.

Staff is very helpful and super friendly....always happy to help you out. I had to change my room because of a broken air con and it was no biggie at all to provide me another room within a few minutes....perfect & good wifi connection....

Wow , I travel a lot ... but this is not budget , it's small, noisy , dirty , brothel !! I don't normally complain but , this is not a good nights sleep ... itch all over from bedlice , very very noisy street noise , rooms rented by the hour so doors slamming at 2 in the morning ... arguments between hookers and clients in the passage .... definitely not a couple or family stay .

The good things about this hotel were the location and Nancy, who was so helpful and kind. The wifi worked fairly well too. But as a solo female traveler I wouldn't come back. My first night here something incredibly frightening happened. I was sleeping and another guest was mistakenly given my room number. When his key card didn't work in my door (thank goodness) he started banging on the door screaming to let him in. I yelled from my bed that he had the wrong room and then he began banging on the door harder and screaming even louder. I was terrified hoping he wouldn't be able to open the door. I called down to the front desk and the night manager came up to show him his correct room. But that didn't immediately stop the screaming so I called the front desk again. At that point the night manager told me that it had been handled. But it wasn't handled. Finally the screaming stopped and (I presume) the other guest went to his correct room. But it was so scary. The next day I talked to the general manager about this situation and she promised to review the video camera. Later that night another strange man knocked on my door. I left the next morning. I simply don't think this hotel is a safe choice for a solo female traveler.

After a long flight in to Kl and a rough start we find our selves in search of a bed and air con to rest as ng a local driver to point us towards hotel RAE we trip in to the Bukit Bintang Area bright lights and hundreds of massages. We arrive at Hotel Rae with Nancy on board to welcome us with a huge smile after she gave us the room key off upstairs we go Air-conditioning nice cool water cold in the fridge what more can u ask for in the Heat of Kl room was super Clean all the staff fantastic so good we will return in 2 months to do it all Again this Hotel Is Cheap on price but not on Quality Fun Warm Welcomes Safe and a great nights rest booked 4 nights stayed 12 that's how great Hotel Rae was

Location is pretty good. Two streets from Jalan Alor Night Market. A couple minutes walk to the monorail and shuttle bus station.

I loved the customer service & friendliness of the staff. Wifi connection is very effective.

The hotel is clean and comfortable but in a very good location near bukit bintang and klcc, the service is good and you can find a simple breakfast from oppsite restaurant. The price is very good considering the location. I recommend it.

1. Fridge in room didn't work; when I called the guy who answered said it's just a cooler. No coolers I know of have a dial on the inside to adjust the temperature or have a plug to plug in
2. The pipes to the sink screamed it you turned it off in a certain way
3. On arrival they said they were upgrading us for free. I don't like when they do this because you are never really sure if they actually are or if they just want to make you feel special. It that was the upgrade I'm afraid to see the one we booked.

Nothing to shout about this hotel except its location. There are many eateries around this property. If you are a simple backpack traveller who is price sensitive, this hotel will do the job for you. All the basic amenities that you expect from a budget hotel would be provided.

Room is clean and reasonable price. Hotel is located near food street and bar street where you can enjoy many good foods with cheap price.

Reasonable price with basic facility such as towel, attach bathroom, AC, LCD TV, coffee and water and Wifi with good connection. Good hotel for budget traveller.

Be sure to request a room with a window! We felt like we were staying in what should have been the maintenence cupboard!
The room needs a bit of a makeover and the air con needs some TLC. The room wasnt spotlessly clean (long black stray hairs here and there, have found this in most hotels in Malaysia though) but it did the job for a few budget nights.
Overall, fab location, good TV channels, and pleasant, helpful staff.
