Great hotel, great location, staff is the best.
We stayed for 4 nights in September. Hotel is in a good location, easy walk into Stari Grad(which is beautiful, good selection of restaurants). Rooms very compact, & a tiny bathroom, but comfortable. We were in a Size M for 2 Seaside. Breakfast excellent. Dinner limited choices, & certainly not a la carte. On arrival Reception was very lacklustre, & certainly not welcoming! When we asked for more information about one of the bike rides, limited knowledge & no suggestion of who we could ask for more information. My main complaint/concern were the steps into the sea. One day we saw 7 people slip & have to save themselves by grabbing the rail. One chap was not so lucky & fell & split his head open front & back & had to go to hospital. The hotel charges extra for sun-beds on the beach so should ensure the steps are safe, or as a bare minimum put signs in place warning that steps are slippery.
This was an enjoyable place to stay
I’ve just returned from a truly wonderful stay at Places, Stari Grad, Hvar...
We booked two 2+1 villas for a 3-night stay at the end of our multi-centre trip through Dalmatia, and it was the perfect finale. The villas exceeded our expectations — spacious, spotless, beautifully decorated, and thoughtfully set up to make us feel instantly at home. Everything felt fresh and well cared for, which added to the sense of relaxation. The added beach towel basket and yoga mats was a good touch.
One of the highlights for us was the eco-conscious approach. The playful, tongue-in-cheek messages encouraging sustainability (like shorter showers and towel recycling) really made us smile while still getting the message across. It gave us the sense that we were part of a resort cares about its impact without being preachy — something we really value when travelling.
Food was another standout. Breakfast was generous and varied, with more than enough to suit all tastes. The range was fantastic with fresh and cooked options, make your own smoothie from fresh fruit and the nice touch of the Prosecco. The complimentary lunch (and dinner) was such a thoughtful touch and very much appreciated. In the evenings, we enjoyed using our dinner credit on the a la carte menu — the food was consistently tasty and well presented and the flexible approach to the daily dinner credit is a great idea which works well in that the value can be used for drinks, or food.
The facilities were excellent, with plenty of choice whether guests wanted to keep active, play, or simply relax. For us, the pool area became a favourite spot. It was clean, well-maintained, and never felt overcrowded. The gentle reminders about not reserving sunbeds were worded perfectly — clear but friendly. While we would have enjoyed a few more DJ sessions by the pool to enhance that fun holiday atmosphere, the vibe overall was exactly what we were looking for: relaxed, welcoming, and easy-going.
What also elevated our stay, though, was the team. Every member of staff we met was warm, friendly, and attentive, creating an atmosphere that felt genuinely caring and personal. They are an absolute credit to the resort. It was lovely to see that same energy reflected in the overall vibe of the place — a mix of guests across different demographics, all enjoying themselves in their own way, yet the atmosphere remained harmonious and inclusive.
Overall, we had a memorable and enjoyable time — it felt like excellent value for money, and as we left we were already talking going back.
Just got back from a week in places Hvar. Overall it was really good. The hotel is clean and well located, breakfast was very good, running to 11am a bonus. Free soup and salad at lunch and dinner is a nice touch. Dinner was good quality but limited in variety and not cheap. That being said no food in Stari Grad is cheap, all the restaurants we went to were more expensive than the hotel and I wouldn't say they were great quality, although nice. Expect to pay 50 euros a head eating out with a bottle of wine. Stari Grad is only a 15 minute walk from the hotel and is very pretty, it's pricey probably due to the super yachts mooring there.
The hotel complex is very nice with sun loungers nicely spread out and a 1 minute walk from the sea. The sea is crystal clear and lovely to swim in. We didn't use the pool as it seemed pointless when the sea is so nice. The hotel give you beach towels, and if you want replacements charge 2 euros per towel. The sun beds in the hotel ground are all free, only the ones right on the sea front are charged, and we didn't even bother as the hotel ones were nicer.
If I went again I would organise my own transfer, and I would get the fast boat to Hvar town and taxi from there, rather than the slow boat to Stari Grad as we had to wait 4 hours for it and then it takes 2 hours. The 4 hours we had to wait we spent in Split Old Town which was a very nice place to be looking around, so it wasn't all bad by any means.
Overall I really recommend this hotel and location, its really very good and much better than the 3 stars suggest.
The hotel is clearly a remanent of a different time (not in a good way). Rooms are too small, to the point of being unusable. Bathrooms are horrendous, dirty, old, full of limescale and showing signs of neglect spanning years, if not decades. They just repainted floors and tiles in poopy beige and that was it, that is the refurbishment. Staff are in a contest who can do less work, from restaurant staff to cleaners, although I would say cleaners are winning. We have stayed for well over a week, the room has not been vaccumed once, let alone cleaned. The restaurant staff take 3 to 5 bussiness days to clear the table; at one point the roof of the restaurant terrace was leaking, everybody just kept on skipping over it, no one cleaned it. After the rain, the guests alone dried the mattresses on the sun beds, the staff could not be bothered. Skip the food at the hotel; way over priced, ready-made meals that McDonalds can beat. Watchout which cocktail you get; signature drinks are good and spritzes, other cocktails are watered down.
We had a wonderful stay – everything was just lovely! The room was spotless and comfortable, the breakfast was top class. We really enjoyed the pool and bar too. Great atmosphere all around – would happily come back!
The staff were amazing, the pool and beach area are beautiful and the air con in the building was crispy! Quick water taxi to Stari Grad from the beach area was 2 euro and worth it. This is a great spot for a relaxing and convenient stay
We had a lovely lunch by the pool, and Marko looked after us so well. Would recommend to anyone in Hvar! Food was delicious and came so quickly.
The good....
The staff were amazing, so friendly and helpful.
The decor and ambience of the hotel was wonderful.
The cleanliness was just perfect.
The bathrooms had great water pressure and nice toiletries
The bad.....
Extra charge for sun loungers on the beach
Extra charge to switch beach towels
Menu and food was not to our taste, heavily into fish and meat or fake meat. Could improve by adding vegetable based dishes.
The room was quite noisy for sleep, we were closest to the entrance.
Samanta Is a Really good guide, the tour was fantásticas and she explain all quite good during our SUP tour in the Valamqr in steibgrad
I had a fantastic stay at the hotel, and a big part of that was thanks to Sara L. She was friendly, professional, and went out of her way to make sure everything was perfect. From helpful tips to her constant attention to detail, she truly elevated the whole experience. I felt welcomed and well taken care of throughout my stay. Highly recommended!
Spent 4 nights with husband, 14 year old and 12 year old.
2 bedroom suite in main building overlooking pool. In my opinion not worth upgrading to the larger balcony rooms as plenty of bean bags type chairs/loungers to use around grounds without paying extra for these rooms, paying for the Loungers at the beach or reserving loungers with your towel by the pool as a few do !
Very clean throughout.,
Staff plentiful and friendly.
Rooms compact as previously described but fortunately we only have cabin bags. Air con a bit noisy(sounded like a coffee machine at times!) but comfortable beds and both rooms had tvs.
Breakfast a bit canteen like - juices were the sweet drinks from cartons rather than fresh. Other than that breakfast ok.
Found flexi half board useful for Hungary teenagers - lunch time pizzas v good. We like to eat out at night and we enjoyed the 15 minute walk along the sea shore to Stari grad. Lots of restaurant options at reasonable prices. The town has a nice atmosphere .
Can highly recommend ‘taxi Stari grad’ which you can find online - v efficient and good service - 20e from Stari grad ferry terminal and 45e to Hvar. Cheaper than through hotel. They were waiting for us when we disembarked off ferry.
Water sports unfortunately couldn’t be used against half board 25e per day allocation . But weren’t too expensive.
The sea here isnt quite as inviting as other places we visited but is seconds from main hotel building. There is a very derelict looking 2 star hotel next door which is owned by same company and looks like it’s not been touched since 70s but it didn’t affect this hotel. I’m assuming they haven’t got money to upgrade this. The other hotel on the other side and again Valamar is more small children oriented with slides etc.
On the whole enjoyed our stay for ; nights and liked Stari grad .
The staff at Places Valamar was awesome!!! If you get Reyka in housekeeping, your room will be spotless!! Ivana, Luka, and Andelina mixed great drinks. And Marina served us awesome food when getting a break from the sun. The meat thing about the staff is they tell you the ins and outs of the island! Want a small beach? Wine festival? Steaks? Seafood?? They tell you the best local spots within walking distance in the area.
Sincerely,
Adrian Ilija
Beautiful pool area and amazing relaxed vibe troughout the hotel. The hotel is perfectly located right by the sea. Staff are kind and welcoming. Breakfast is tasty whit plenty of choice, and the beds are super comfortable.
The nearby old town is absolutely charming and adds a special touch to the whole experience. Highly recommended!
The hotel provides excellent service, with a high standard of cleanliness and comfort. The staff are professional, courteous, and efficient, ensuring a smooth and pleasant stay for guests.
In particular, I would like to commend Minja at the reception. She consistently demonstrated professionalism, clear communication, and exceptional customer care. Her proactive approach and attention to detail reflect the quality standards of the hotel and leave a very positive impression.
This is another dimension of hotel and catering that I have never experienced in these areas. Excellent service, starting from the kind Minja at the reception and then the others. The food is exceptional, the hygiene is excellent, the staff is fantastic. We will be back :)
Vraiment une belle destination et très bien organisé avec le système de bracelet !
Personnel au top et toujours prêt à rendre service
From start till end of vacation Damir and his team made my vacation like a dream,
the right crew, good vibes, and memories that last forever.”
My family and I loved this place. We were in a two bedroom villa with private pool which was gorgeous and functional and very comfortable. These were the best nights sleep of our two week trip. Buffet breakfast was very good. Lunch and dinner are decent. The whole resort is well maintained, clean and has a very laid back vibe. Plenty of places to relax, swim, walk, kayak, paddleboard, etc. You also get to use neighbouring Amicor resort facilities. The flexi board bracelet food ordering system works well and is super convenient. The walk to nearby Stari Grad town (15-20 min) is lovely and Stari Grad is a wonderful little town that we visited frequently. Overall, this is a 3 star resort disguised as a 4 star and we would come back here for sure.
