A disappointing stay in an outdated hotel that falls far below modern European standards.

Unfortunately, my stay at Kardinal Schulte Haus was quite disappointing. The accommodation is remarkably austere, while the room facilities, food and overall level of comfort fall noticeably short of the standards I have come to expect from other hotels across Europe.

The problems begin with the parking area, which is located a considerable distance from the entrance. Guests have to carry their luggage quite a long way and then lift heavy suitcases up the stairs. There may be a ramp or a more convenient entrance, but nobody informed us about it or showed us an alternative route. As a guest, I can only judge what I actually experienced.

The room facilities are exceptionally basic. There is not even a kettle or drinking glasses. The television is very small, and the entrance door has no additional locking mechanism on the inside.

The bathroom deserves particularly strong criticism. The shower is outdated and uncomfortable. The shower head does not stay in its intended position, causing the water to change direction and spray onto the wall rather than the person showering. When you finally manage to direct the water towards your head, you have to stand so close to the wall that you almost touch the soap dish mounted in the middle of it.

Another problem is the unstable water temperature, which fluctuates unexpectedly from lukewarm to hot during a shower. This is not merely inconvenient but could also present a risk of scalding.

As for amenities such as an iron or even a simple shoe brush, one can only dream.

The food also leaves much to be desired. The meals are extremely basic, modest and lacking in variety. I find it difficult even to compare the dining experience here with what I have encountered in other European hotels.

Cons:

First and foremost, the hotel should focus on improving the basic comfort of its guests. Convenient access from the parking area to the reception should be provided, without requiring guests to carry heavy suitcases up the stairs. Alternatively, guests should at least be clearly informed about any accessible entrances or other available facilities.

The rooms should be better equipped, with basic amenities such as a kettle, drinking glasses and a larger television. The showers urgently need modernisation, particularly to ensure a stable water temperature and properly functioning shower heads. The room doors should also have an additional locking mechanism on the inside.

The dining experience could be significantly improved by offering a greater variety of meals, including desserts and cakes. Basic amenities such as an iron and a shoe brush should also be available.

The history of the building deserves respect, but it should not serve as an excuse for outdated standards.

Guests do not necessarily expect luxury. They simply expect comfort, functionality and the feeling that someone has genuinely considered their needs.

Ich war nur eine Nacht da, da ich am nächsten Tag zum Flughafen musste. Dafür war es sehr gut.

Ein sehr beeindruckendes Gebäude

Cons:

Die Entfernung vom Parkplatz zum Eingang, mit großem Koffer sehr unangenehm.
Kopfsteinpflaster, schlecht beleuchtet.
Auf die Frage ob es einen kürzeren Weg, besseren Weg gibt, wurde nur vage in irgendeine Richtung gezeigt.
