Property follows a brand or regulatory agency's sanitization guidelines Commitment to Clean (Marriott)
I stayed at the Residence Inn – Springfield South on December 13, 2025, using my annual Marriott Bonvoy credit card reward. I am a frequent traveler, long-time Marriott customer, and Bonvoy cardholder, and I chose this property because I expected a reliable, comfortable stay from a brand I have trusted for decades.
I was in town for an important family milestone—my mother’s doctoral graduation. After spending the evening with family, I checked in just before midnight. It was brutally cold outside, with temperatures approaching single digits, and all I wanted was a warm room and a good night’s sleep.
Unfortunately, that’s not what I got.
Upon entering the room, it was unusually cold. I turned the heat up, assuming it simply needed time to warm up. It never did. I eventually bundled up and tried to sleep, but later realized the thermostat had not changed temperature at all—the heater simply was not working. I also discovered that the toilet in the room was not functioning.
Early the morning of December 14, I reported both issues to the front desk. Maintenance was dispatched, but since I was checking out later that morning, I was told the room would likely just be taken out of service. That did nothing to address the fact that I still had hours remaining on my stay in an unusable room.
Maintenance was unable to fix either the heat or the toilet. As a result, we were forced to use the restroom in the hotel’s common area for the remainder of our stay—completely unacceptable under any circumstance, especially given the weather and the brand standards Marriott claims to uphold.
At checkout, I was told a note would be left for the General Manager and that I would receive enough Marriott Bonvoy points to cover a future free night. Over 10 days passed with no call, no email, no message, and no points. Then, 17 days after the stay, I finally received an email stating that 2,500 points had been deposited into my account.
For context, that is barely enough to buy a snack in the hotel marketplace—certainly not compensation for a freezing room, a non-functioning toilet, or the complete lack of follow-through.
I have been staying at Marriott properties for over 40 years, and this was the worst customer service experience I’ve ever had. The lack of urgency during the stay, followed by the delayed and insulting response afterward, reflects a serious breakdown in both operations and accountability.
If you are forced to stay at this property, check immediately that your heat works, your toilet functions, and your water gets hot—and if you are promised anything in response to a problem, make sure you receive it before you leave the hotel.
This experience fell far short of Marriott standards.
Upon arrival after a long drive, I was simply looking forward to unpacking, getting some dinner, and settling in for a good night’s rest. Unfortunately, that’s not how the evening unfolded.
At check-in, I felt more scrutinized than welcomed. The front desk associate questioned my company’s rate and asked for proof of employment. I provided my business card, including my title and position, but she still needed to confirm it with her manager. His response—an eye roll followed by a reluctant “I guess”—was unprofessional and made me feel unwelcome. I’m unsure what additional proof was expected, but the interaction left a poor first impression.
After quickly unpacking and stepping out for dinner, I returned to the room to do a bit of work and get ready for bed. With temperatures in the 90s that day, I turned the air conditioning down to cool the room, as I prefer a cooler environment for sleeping. However, when I woke around 11:00 PM, the room temperature had not changed—it remained at 72 degrees throughout the night. Combined with an uncomfortable mattress, I had a restless night and woke feeling disappointed and unrested.
As a frequent traveler and lifetime Marriott Gold member, I’ve come to expect a consistent level of service and comfort. While I generally have positive experiences, this stay was an exception. Regrettably, I will not be returning to this property and will seek alternative accommodations on future visits to Springfield.
Great hotel, from check in to the very nice, updated and clean room. I have significant allergies and there were no strong scents or fragrances. We will definitely stay here again!
This was my first time staying at a Residence Inn as part of a large family reunion group. I was very impressed with the spacious suite. The room was fully equipped with everything that one would need for an extended stay. I did not need to use any of the kitchen as I was only there for 2 nights but I can see where this would be a wonderful layout for someone needing to stay a while. There were many, many outlets as well for devices. The desk, work area, even had a strip for many outlets. The blow dryer was adequate for my medium hair.
The room, as well as all the public areas, were very clean. I liked the sanitizing wipes available to clean the remote and other surfaces. Everything was in perfect order for my stay. The room was very quiet from hearing others but one of our party said they could hear people above them, I never had that issue. My only complaint on noise was the HVAC unit was rather noisy and it's placement in the room is right by the bed. It was constantly kicking off and on and in hindsight I should of asked the desk if they had earplugs. Honestly, that was the only issue I had but I have a hard time sleeping anywhere new the first few nights. The bed was very comfortable and I liked the bedding, very soft and cozy, perfectly inviting to fall asleep.
I was very impressed with the breakfast provided. I am not a big breakfast eater and typically the food offered at hotel breakfasts seems to come out of a bag and gets heated up. The food was very flavorful, hot, and seasoned well. There were 2 ladies that came around picked up plates, offered bacon, I felt like I was at grandma's house and she was taking care of making sure we were all well fed. Those ladies did a wonderful job as we were a very large group for 2 mornings. The front desk staff was very nice and I seen people cleaning and taking care of things throughout the stay.
We had a very large group and the room that was available to use was very nice as well as the spacious lobby area with lots of seating. We were able to spread out and have a very nice 2 day family reunion.
I will definitely recommend this hotel to others and I will start looking at Residence Inn's closer when I travel.
This hotel is tired. Wallpaper coming off, missing tile in the bathroom, caulking coming out in shower.
The bed was reasonably comfortable, staff was friendly. Breakfast was pretty good although no bread, just English muffins and mediocre bagels
This is a great residence inn. We have stayed here a few times, and we just stayed again over the July 4th holiday weekend. The staff are great. The room was very clean. They are doing a good job maintaining the hotel. It still seems new. The breakfast was good and is typical of the brand. We stay at a lot of Marriotts and residence inns, and this is a good place to example of the brand. We will be back!
Most places I stay with the dogs are not places I would go if I wasn’t traveling with them. This hotel is different..
Wonderful accommodations- clean comfortable room, sparkling facilities and grounds and welcoming to dogs(though the dog fee is a hefty $100). There is a breakfast buffet with the normal make-your-own waffles, cereal, yogurt with toppings and breads as well as eggs and sausages.
The best part of this hotel though might just be Rhonda. She is part of the breakfast crew and is a cheerful welcoming face in the morning- even at 5 am.
I have been to the area a few times and typically stay down-town, but this time I decided to do something different and I am so glad I did. I was traveling for spring break with my high school aged daughter. Having a hotel with free ample parking, a pool, and a kitchenette was perfect for us. The kitchenette was adorable; we brought our own groceries and saved time and money by not eating out (which to me is always a cost killer when traveling). The bed was comfy, the space was perfect for hanging out in the evenings, the pool was a decent size and never crowded, and the staff were all super friendly. I also found the place to be particularly clean.
This is a pretty typical Residence Inn, and we have stayed in a lot of them. We like the brand, and they deliver good service and accommodations. Everything was very clean, and we had no complaints. We stayed July 3rd, but we have stayed previously as we visit Springfield often. Out of the Marriott’s in Springfield, the Residence Inn and SpringHill are our favorites.
I was a little concerned driving through the neighborhood, somewhat dated, to get to the hotel but then there it was - a beautiful newish appearing building set back from the primary roadway. Front desk gentleman pleasantly greeted me, offered me a snack and bottled water and explained the breakfast drill. I already knew that part, but he was so good at what he did, I listened to the entire intro. Great front desk team. Room was clean, great selection of tv channels, and the bed was very comfortable. I didn’t use the kitchenette but it was appointed with anything one might need for an extended stay. Morning breakfast has everything you could want - fresh eggs, bacon, English muffins, biscuits & gravy, fruit…and the lady who was tending the breakfast bar was very friendly and prepared to help in any way, including local directions.
Friendly staff, quick check in, quiet rooms, breakfast was good, and easy on site parking.
This Residence Inn has to be one of the best hotel stays I have ever had, especially as an extended stay. There is no other place I would rather call my home away from home.
The facility is bright, modern, clean and spacious. The rooms are well appointed, meticulous and comfortable.
The staff is amazing. Very friendly, courteous and helpful.
A special shout out to the breakfast ladies. What a cheerful crew to start your day with. Even as you’re bolting out the door, they make sure you know “Breakfast is ready!” They’ll even help package it to go. Knowing that a large number of the guests have to run to work first thing in the morning, they adjusted the serving hours to accommodate them.
This hotel stay was one of the best hotel stays I have experienced. The hotel seems newer and the staff do a great job of keeping the spaces and rooms clean. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, they definitely make you feel like it’s a home away from home. If I do come back to the area, I will 100% be staying at this location again.
The staff were very friendly. The hotel was clean and well taken care of from the time we stepped in the front door to our room. The room was nice. Would definitely stay here again.
We used the hotel as a home base for 14 people, aged 7 months to 80, for an 80th birthday party. The staff was fantastic. Not only did they ably handle one reservation for 7 rooms with three arrival dates and two departure dates, they provided restaurant advice and general good cheer. Rhonda and Tina served great breakfasts every morning. The front desk staff always had a smile and an offer of assistance.
The staff was wonderful. Very friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and we loved the updates. We would definitely stay there again.
The Residence Inn by Marriott has now become my #1 hotel of choice! I appreciate everything about this place. The next time that I'm in Springfield I will definitely be lodging here!
From the moment we walked through the door, to saying farewell, we were met with cheerful smiles, welcoming attitude and helpful spirits! Large comfortable rooms, beds, full kitchens, exceptional in cleanliness. We stayed in a 2 master bedroom suite and was impressed with every detail aimed at our comfort. Rhonda, morning hostess, learned when you might need that extra early fresh cup of java. She kept the breakfast food fresh, hot, and dining areas clean. High five to Rhonda and breakfast crew! Halls were kept quite, and rooms were well insulated so that you never even heard a TV in a neighboring suite. Marriott really scored with this location! Don't even think about staying anywhere else but this Residence Suites!
The staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was good with several selections (hot and cold) that differed each day. Set-up of the room was a typical Residence Inn with a full side fridge, microwave, sink and small dining table. The room was clean and as we were there just a couple of nights, we did not avail of housekeeping.
Would recommend for a family or business traveler.
Beautiful and clean property with nearby restaurants. Room felt like a mini apartment. Nice place!
