Courtyard by Marriott San Jose Airport Alajuela

Arriving late in San José, the Courtyard in Alajuela is at the place. With a choice of free shuttle service or direct cab for 15$ USD, the Courtyard Alajuela is about a 7-minute drive from the airport. Service overall is professional and courteous. Room was clean and bed was comfortable. Breakfast buffet offers two choices of continental or full buffet. Basically, it’s a very good hotel for a layover.

Pros:
- Convenient for a one-night stay when arriving late/departing early from the San Jose Airport.
- There is a complimentary airport shuttle, which was pretty easy to find and did not have to wait for it for more than 3 minutes.

Cons:
- Zero soundproofing between rooms - I specifically requested a quiet room with no connecting internal door, but instead I was given a room with an internal connecting door on the first floor with a window opening directly onto the pool. I had a late arrival and very early departure, and so I was exhausted, so I just endured the sounds of neighboring room's screaming baby for approximately 6 hours (and luckily the pool was closed, so there was no one outside to also cause noise) - but it reflects very poorly on Marriott that the mgmt here completely ignored my specific requests for a quiet room and put me in a room with a connecting door and also directly fronting the pool.
- Another con - the breakfast is not complimentary, which for this price, it should be. -
- Another con (not specific to this hotel, but just to San Jose) - the traffic is bonkers: if you can avoid flying into SJC, avoid it - the Liberia airport (which I flew out of) is SO MUCH EASIER to deal with from a logistics perspective than San Jose.

This is a wonderful hotel with modern, spacious rooms and comfortable beds. The rooms have a very large TV with some English speaking stations. The bathroom is modern and clean and there is a nice desk. Their Wi-Fi was very good and easy to connect. The front desk is well staffed with friendly English speaking staff and they have a complimentary airport shuttle.

The restaurant is very nice with a nice selection of well prepared food. The complimentary breakfast is nice with both typical continental type offerings as well as hot food including an omelet station where you can get a custom made omelet made to order.

The only small annoyances were my first room on the 6th floor was a little outlet challenged (I had to choose between plugging in my laptop or having the lamp work at the desk). They have a closet type cabinet for hanging your clothes but there is a shelf about 3' down from the hanger bar so your clothes don't really "hang" properly as they should.

Aside from those small things this is a great hotel with great service that I will definitely stay at again the next time I am in the Alabuela Costa Rica area.
