Just was informed that hotel, months after accepting our bookings for June 2025, has decided to voluntarily close for renos.
Leaves myself and 11 other gentleman golfers in the lurch for accommodations at the peak of the season.
Outrageously poor behavior for a business.
Simply terrible - no amount of renovation will make up for such bad management.
I was due to stay at the Ardgowan hotel with my fiancee on the 24th and 25th January 2025. However, the hotel has closed for renovation. This was not communicated to us in any form, leaving me to find alternative arrangements with minimal notice. If I hadn’t been looking at the website ahead of time to see about adding an additional day to the booking, we would’ve turned up on the 24th and found it closed leaving us without accommodation. We booked via the hotel website and the only email received from the hotel was the booking confirmation.
Very poor customer service.
Centrally located b&b. Fast and easy check in. Tiny clean rooms. WiFi doesn’t work in Your room. You can hear the floors squick when people in the next room are walking around.
Daily room cleaning. Bathroom is the smallest I have ever seen. Toilet tank is making constant noise.
My second review! Following a mix up with lost property I am to remove my negative review and thank the staff for sending my jumper back 😀.
Perfect Location, room clean and tidy and would certainly come back to stay again. Credit where Credits due. THANK YOU
We had such a wonderful experience at the ardgowan. We chose it just for it's location close to West sands, but we're blown away by the incredibly caring and friendly service, the beauty and comfort of the room, and the sensitivity to our family needs. Traveling with a toddler can be very hit or miss when it comes to accomodations and the staff at the ardgowan went above and beyond to welcome and accommodate our family needs. They upgraded our room, provided multiple sleeping options, and even offered us towels to take to the beach! Truly grateful for a special stay!
The Ardgowan Hotel in St. Andrews is the best spot for a quick golf trip! From the moment we arrived, Lindsey made our stay truly memorable with her warmth and attention to detail. The hotel’s charm, combined with its perfect location, made our visit exceptional. We cannot wait to return!
We had a wonderful stay at the Ardgowan Hotel for the Dunhill Cup. The location is perfect for golf, getting to the beach and also to bars and restaurants. Lindsey made our trip extra special with her friendly and bubbly personality. Not forgetting the lovely Prosecco she gave me for my special birthday. Shout out to the cleaning ladies who were also really efficient and friendly. The breakfasts were nice and I recommend the pancakes.. I've already booked another trip.
The perfect stay for a busy weekend. We can’t thank Lindsey enough for all she did to make our stay so special. She was super prompt in answering my emails and accommodating my needs. A truly personal touch which means so much. Thank you Lindsey and we look forward to staying again. A n T
Room was large and comfortable, bathroom was immaculate. Sheets and bedding were very nice, and there was plenty of light. Just two blocks to the Old Course or to shopping and restaurants. Special shoutout to Naomi for unflappably tracking down our lost bags. Long story, but we finally got them delivered.
A charming hotel in a perfect location, next to the golf course and near to the university. I slept comfortably, and was delighted to find an outlet by the bed. The shower was strong, and the products provided were great.
Lindsey at Reception was absolutely lovely.
Very warm welcome from Lindsey and her staff.
Location and Room excellent. Ideal location for touring St Andrews.
Staff local knowledge was excellent with regards things to do and places to eat.
Ideal location for golfers with a 5mi s if that walk to course. Will definitely be back.
Highly recommend.
We had a very nice stay in St Andrew’s. The hotel is located close to the old golf course, castle ruins and market street. All reachable by foot. The receptionist, Lindsay, was very kind and warm and gave us some great recommendations for our trip :)
A great location and great views—but that’s about all this place has going for it. We were told there’s no lift but the room was “just a few steps up.” It was actually 2 full flights up, with a section of carpet on the staircase coming undone. There was a well-worn sign on the wall to watch for this unattached carpeting—how about fixing the problem instead of making a sign? The room looked and felt like a dorm. “Basic” would be a kind description. And then there were the seagulls…shrieking all day (and night) at top volume. It was hot and stuffy in the room so no choice but to TRY to sleep with the windows open. Thanks to those gulls, I gave up at 4am. On the “plus” side, I got to watch the sunrise. 🌅
Checking in was first class. Extremely helpful and friendly staff.
Issues I had are with the building itself.
Staircase up to the room in the annex was needing replaced as it was brown and unwelcoming, not hoovered either.
Room we had was dark and tight, endure almost against the bed, crammed and tight. Sink unit edge was rotting.
Worst thing is the room window, they are old sash windows with a secondary heavy inside glazing panel. Neither of them held as their safety catches were broken and on opening I almost lost the top of my finger when it slammed down. If a child touched these even slightly would be a nasty accident!
While location is great the rooms are not. Small, out dated, and feels dirty. The carpet in our room was not vacuumed once during our week long stay. We had to ask for towels that were not replaced with housekeeping service. Glassware wasn’t replaced after the first night. The breakfast was great. Rooms are hard to get to. Small staircase with carpet nailed down in places. Be prepared with heavy golf bags and suitcases. They do offer daily laundry which was very convenient. The restaurant and bar are closed. Will not stay again.
The hotel is the perfect location. It's within walking distance of the Old Course and all food/shopping in St. Andrews. There is a free public parking lot close by, so we were able to park our car and walk the entire time we were in St. Andrews. The hotel and room itself were not particularly updated, but they were clean. Compared to other hotels in the area, the price was good for the location but matched the quality of the rooms. Would still recommend, just depends on your travelling style!
The room was nothing like the promotional pictures. The ceiling was so low that I could put my hand flat on the ceiling while standing normally - and I am not very tall. The view was of a small, dingy courtyard that was being used to store a ladder. The bathroom was tiny and the fittings (especially the shower stall) were cheap. The bath towel was badly frayed. It was really quite disappointing given the price of the hotel.
The Ardgowan is batting weigh above its weight. It’s a 2 to 3 star establishment at best however, charging customers far more than what is being delivered.
Don’t be fooled by the photos,
The Ardgowan is significantly overpriced. Not recommended.
I stayed for two nights. I had a great wee room which was far too hot, but unlike some other old buildings, the windows opened and so I was very comfortable. Great wee shower, hairdryer, kettle and tv - what more could I need? Breakfasts were good, particularly the scrambled eggs and smoked salmon which was absolutely delicious. The two staff members I met were great, very professional and helpful. It’s an easy walk into the centre of St. Andrews and although there was no parking at the hotel, there is free long term parking within a 5 min walk. Thanks for looking after me so well!
