Check out exactly what you are paying for. Does a sea view bedroom mean that work is going on outside your window?
We were looking for a treat of Luxury for an overnight stay on the coast, but not entirely finding it at the Hydro Hotel, Seamills in West Kilbride, North Ayrshire - the Hotel needs improvement work and a lot of attention to detail to satisfy their guests of the high price paid
Always enjoy the peace and calm by the seaside relax chill out enjoy good food and. drink
visited many times
We stayed for 3 nights. We were really disappointed as we knew this place from 4 years ago. obviously things changed - not to the better. rooms aren't in good shape, shabby looking. Noisy level is high, had to call reception after 11pm. Rooms not well equipped with the basics - not even a toilet brush... If you spend this amount of money then you spend it for the fantastic view on the sea. Atmosphere felt somehow stressed, but not chilled. swimmingpool had its time is absolutely time to make over. cleaning service was very nice. Restaurant: a disaster, better, a management disaster. continental breakfast: poor - poor choice of fresh fruits, no vegetables at all, packed cereals, no fresh mushrooms, not enough coffee cups available - and so on - disaster.
I did not get the facilities in my room that I had discussed with the Reservation team prior to booking
Cannot fault this hotel resort at all. We attended a family wedding and stayed 3 nights. It was the most perfect weekend. Not even the fine Scottish weather could spoil it. Even with the wind blowing and the rain pouring, this location is still as stunning as it is with the sun shining. Everything about this hotel was incredible. The staff, the location, the rooms (#46 - amazing views), the restaurants and the facilities were spot on.
Second time here, had a lovely river view room, bath was huge!!! Enjoyed the leisure facilities, food in restaurant was lovely, comfy bed, freshly cooked breakfast which I prefer to a buffet style. Our waiter Zack in the restaurant is a wee star!! Definitely be back again.
A fantastic hotel with great staff and facilities. Good value for money and in a good location. Nothing was a hassle to make our stay a great experience
We visited the newly refurbished Tides Restaurant this afternoon as a birthday treat for my 88 year old mum. We had afternoon tea and cocktails. From the minute we arrived, we had a wonderful afternoon. All the staff were attentive, friendly and efficient. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The afternoon tea was first class. Plenty of savoury and sweet treats. I would definitely recommend afternoon tea at Seamill Hydro to family and friends
Spent a fantastic couple of nights at Seamill Hydro with my work colleagues. We were all well taken care of and enjoyed the lovely food provided. The bedrooms are spotlessly clean and comfortable, and the new look Tides restaurant (previously known as The Orangery) is stunning. It is worth a visit just to visit Tides alone. I look forward to returning soon.
Style over substance.
Basic function of a hotel is to provide a nice room to get a good nights sleep in. That’s where Seamill fails, the rooms are so poorly sound insulated - one of the nosiest hotels I’ve stayed in - for amount they charge you would expect better. The hotel is in a great location and the central deco, reception rooms, restaurant look amazing. But when you cater for wedding/large parties you need better insulated rooms as you hear people running around, banging around in rooms next to you, people speaking, cleaners ect. Spa facilities were very good and nice breakfast food
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Seamill. It is a joy to stay here. The staff are all excellent. The food is very good. The recent refurbishments e.g. the dining room, cocktail lounge and gym are excellent and make a stay here even better than before. Great value for money. Looking forward to my next stay.
Very mixed review. We went with two other couple, we all paid exactly the same for our B & B but we had 3 very different rooms. One was absolutely fine with a view of the rooftops. The second was so tiny the door almost hit the bed when opened again a view of the rooftops . Both these in the main hotel. The third room was outside and in another block and it was huge with a sofa and armchairs, a beautiful sea view we would all have liked. The decor in that room was very dated.
Our dining experience was very nice and we all enjoyed the food. We then decided we would like Irish Coffees to end the meal. Disaster from start to finish, the first lot came and had been stirred so were basically lattes. The second lot came but were so thin we could see through them, no coffee taste at all. We asked to speak to a manager and she was so rude, insisting they had been made correctly in front of her( a lie because we watched them making them and she was not there.) One of them was Decaf and she insisted that decaf was a different colour in their hotel!!! Eventually she took them away and we asked for them to be removed from the bill. If she had only apologised and tried to rectify the situation, it would have been fine but she argued that we were wrong and that spoiled our whole experience in the restaurant. The rest of the staff in the hotel and bar were excellent and extremely polite but it only takes one bad Apple to blight the barrel.
Service was absolutely horrible been told to get out because table has to be taken, our drinks weren’t brought through and we had to wait 20 minutes for them to bring us our drinks.
Expensive, over rated and lack lustre. Having had afternoon tea and then Sunday lunch here for the first time in 18 months, then I can safely say that nothing has changed. The menu hasn’t changed in 18 months and is uninspiring (I am still searching for my burger in the Highland Burger); the service is poor and random. My wife asked for a medium burger and was told this wasn’t possible, but “I will ask the kitchen”; the whipped feta mousse came with no bread or crackers - had to ask for something; the waitress nearly dropped the bread with my pate, but fortunately was a good catch and caught it in her hand before it fell to the floor… Afternoon tea - nothing to write home about other than having to remind the staff that Afternoon tea should be served with tea…… Was served eventually after multiple reminders. Food unexciting snd expensive for what was served.
This place in certain areas is currently under renovation, but this needs to extend to the management, kitchen and staff. It is over rated and rests on its laurels purely due to its location. Nearly two years ago I had a Christmas evening meal here and had it not been for family, would never have bothered returning.
Location, great, decor lovely in the Aura bar, we both dined there as the Orangery is under refurbishment.
On taking our order there was no vegetarian menu available.
The Orangery previously had a great vegetarian menu.
On receiving our desserts, we were not provided with any cutlery, I drew attention of one of the the waitresses to ask for cutlery and I said did you forget?
Her response was "I was gonnae watch from a distance to see how you were gonnae eat your dessert"
Not exactly the response or service expected at said level you intend to present as an establishment.
As both retired Managers we thought the food did not live up to said expectations as it was expensive for general bar prices. It's a shame as the restaurant is lovely and the other staff in general were friendly and attentive. We were both disappointed at a previous visit last year and thought we would give it a second chance, nothing has really changed so far.
Really nice hotel in a beautiful location. The check-in was very good. The room was excellent. The biggest thing that let it down was the lack of attention to gluten-free guests. This is not really acceptable nor inclusive. The evening meal menu was a temporary menu but without allergens highlighted. As a result we waited 20 mins to understand what dishes could be provided as GF. Poor selection of GF breakfast too. Disappointing in such a nice hotel. Major renovations are ongoing which are a little disruptive.
We visited as a family group of 8 people and have stayed at Seamill Hydro several times previously. Each time, we are made to feel very welcome by the friendly reception staff. We love the hotel itself and the beautiful location beside the beach.
On this occasion, we were overwhelmed by the kindness of the owners who, at the end of what must have been a very busy and stressful day for them, gave us a guided tour of the newly refurbished restaurant and Sirens Bar, which is due to open later this week.
We wish you good luck for the opening of the restaurant and bar, Robert & Vivien and look forward to seeing your further planned developments on future visits.
I strongly recommend a stay in this beautiful hotel with its individual rooms and wonderful sea views. You won’t be disappointed.
Enjoyable overnight at Seamill. Location excellent with lovely sea views. Comfortable spacious bedroom. Flavoursome food in restaurant with an extensive menu to choose from. Added bonus of leisure facilities.
Wonderful stay at this hotel, rooms, food and staff were fabulous. Exciting plans for new restaurant and bar underway. Would definitely stay again!
