Great weekend with friends and dinned
Pros:

We had friends staying at the hotel and we enjoyed a dinner together. Our friends loved the hotel rooms and breakfast, we were very satisfied with the dinner, local wines, service both when booking the rooms, selecting menus and wines as during the weekend.

Top food from the lake.
Pros:

My wife and I enjoyed a meal here with some local friends. I was impressed with the fish meal choices from lake Zürich. I chose the fish liver entree and pan fried whitefish main. Absolutely delicious and the service was excellent. They provide menus in English too.

Nice hotel lovely views
Pros:

Stayed here for work, brief stay nice place lovely people very welcoming and bed was comfy and shower great and nice simple breakfast but the view makes it special as it is beautiful. Rooms are old and have some squeaky boards and you here others guests but don’t let that put you off staying here! I’d stay here again no problem

Delightful experience
Pros:

We have been visiting Switzerland for over 50 years. We have often stayed with my friend (classmate from graduate school) and his wife and occasionally stayed at hotels (Hotel Sonnenburg and the Dolder Grand). As our friends in Stafa have moved into a smaller place (condo) my wife and I stayed at the Gasthof. It was a delightful experience (Stafa is about a 30 minute ride from downtown Zurich). The room was spacious, with a great view of the lake and excellent shower and other facilities. Despite being on the main street it was quiet. The owners are a delightful couple and make you feel welcome and at home. The service is excellent and the family run place balances Swiss efficiency with personal attention impeccably. The food at the restaurant is excellent and the maitre de and other staff very attentive. Breakfasts are a delight and set the stage for the rest of the day. I dont know how the Swiss do it but if there were one place in the world where I would have liked to spend more time it would be Switzerland. And the Gasthof is a metaphor for all of Switzerland.

Great little hotel on lake Zurich in Stafa
Pros:

I stayed at Gasthof zur Sonne for 5 nights while on buisness in Stafa. It is a very cosy and quite hotel right on lake Zurich with one of the best restaurants in the village. I would highly recommend it if you find yourself visiting Stafa. Many of staff speak English perfectly and my stay included a well appointed breakfast each morning served from 7-10am.

A wonderful place to stay!
Pros:

This is a beautiful hotel. It's right across from the water, across from the ferry, 3 minutes from the train station-20 min to Zurich.
Clean, comfortable, and convenient. The owners are extremely cordial as well as the staff, seeing to your wishes. Great buffet breakfasts! I would stay here forever if I could! Wonderful place!!! Worth your time and money!

Nice old building with some buts
Pros:

Gasthof zur Sonne is a nice looking historical building. So don't be surprised carrying your luggage up to 2nd or 3rd floor. My room 208 was ok, nothing great, but with all you need for a one night stop over. Staff was friendly and helpful. The Gasthof has no dedicated parking space but you can use the public parking opposite to the lake, but you've to pay and regular recharging of limited parking ticket might be a bit annoying especially during the day. Breakfast choices were limited but overall ok. The highlight was definitely to bar in the basement with an extremely friendly waitress making our group supper a special event with cold cuts and some nice wine from the region.

Charming family owned inn with fine food and great hospitality
Pros:

My wife and I made a day-of decision to stay here on our way to Zurich after a driving trip through Switzerland, Italy, and Germany rather than stay near the airport. So glad we did! Our room was spacious, comfortable, and right across the street from the lake. Fantastic view of the lake from our window. Despite being a very old, historic hotel, the room was modern and nicely furnished. WIFI was solid. We were worried about the possibility of traffic noise but the host assured us it would be quiet with the windows closed. Indeed it was and we didn't have to sacrifice the view. Another reviewer complained about the pillows. My wife had the opposite reaction--when she first felt the pillows she said "ah, finally. a really good pillow." In the morning, the drive to the airport was no problem--about 45 minutes, and the first part was through rolling, beautiful countryside.

The hotel is run by the chef and his wife and the food here is excellent. He uses locally sourced ingredients and fish from the lake. He's definitely talented. This dinner was actually some of the best food we had on our trip in terms of subtlety and craftsmanship. The chef was kind enough to come over and chat as we were finishing our dinner. Awesome guy (perfect English, of course). Oh... we sat outside. The lake view was stunning at sunset.

Breakfast was included. Nice selection of standard fare. Good coffee.

Great evening--it was a wonderful way to spend our last night in Europe, but it sure made heading home that much harder!

Great small hotel, amazing views across lake
Pros:

This is a lovely small independent hotel with amazing views across the lake and lovely bedrooms. My only criticism is that the pillows are insanely squishy, but I suppose I could've asked for another so no major gripe here.
Hotels are in limited supply in Stafa and this one is definitely worth a visit.

Good overall
Pros:

Visited alone on business. Hotel is small and quite basic. Minimal facilities in the room, but clean.
Restaurant serves some very good meals, although the menu is quite limited. Staff were helpful and spoke good English which was very helpful.
Lovely views across the lake. Conveniently close to train line to Zurich, which runs like clockwork.

Preferred Choice
Pros:

Business travel has brought me to the Zurich area several times per year for the last 10 years and my preference for the hotel stay has always been the Sonne in Staefa. The hotel is conveniently located just a few blocks from the train station in Staefa, making it very easy to travel into Zurich. The Sonne is situated right on Lake Zurich, which allows for lovely views in the summer. The rooms are clean and comfortable, WiFi is included, and the restaurant is excellent. One of the main reasons I choose the Sonne is the people: the owners and staff have always been outstandingly friendly and accommodating.

Pros:

Beware: in winter the smoke rises from the basement bar into the rooms. In summer, the lakeside location and views are a total winner. Room servicing is a bit sloppy. Restaurant is absolutely excellent, and there is a Turkish restaurant nearby which is open on Sunday - everything else except the shops in Zurich station are shut.
