excellently presented hotel with a lovely spacious attrium/reception area. The room was really big and may i say BEAUTIFUL with everything you would ever need. The views were great as was the standard of the room and comfy large bed.
only two things...1. The young staff in the hotel bar area were not very good at serving people who sat there waiting for them to offer a menu and even when we had finished eating they walked past our table in the bar area many times not talking the empty plates. In the end we took them to the bar ourselves after 30 minutes. They were not really busy at the time, in fact sometimes they were just stood talking behind the bar to each other. 2. The breakfast for westerners was served under heat lamps but that section is right in front of a door leading to an outdoor seating area. the door was left open on a morning so the cold air was coming in to the whole restaurant making the room cold but most importantly the breakfast items were cold. I accidentally met Edward the head chef and i mentioned it to him and he said he would fix it. I then saw him again the following night and he came to ask if everything was alright so it was nice he remembered me and fixed the issue.
The rooms are stunning ! Well appointed, large, bright, and VERY CLEAN! The bed and pillows were super comfy. We also LOVED the evening entertainment from RJ and his friend. What beautiful people and singers.
The western food breakfast items were cold because the door to the outside eating area was open directly facing them. I accidentally met the head chef though (Edward) and he accepted that and said he would fix it. He was very good and recognised me next day and came over to say what he had done. really great service
It’s the best hotel today in Dongguan. So don’t even entertain going somewhere else. But the location is ok unless you want to enjoy bar street ( the only attraction in the city), as the hotel is basically a part of the adjacent mall. Dongguan is not a tourist destination and this is an hotel for people coming for business, unless you are crazy. Again, the best in town
Food is below average but in line with what you can get in Dongguan. Service is what it is. It’s recommended that you speak mandarin to be able to communicate. Maybe an Intercontinental hotel should invest pocket money hiring a western barman that can shake a cocktail or a western chef that will not cook spaghetti 45 minutes or put durian on savory dishes. It would be great to know that there is a true international place in Dongguan and not just another brand name hotel with beautiful rooms but where you can’t drink anything decent or you can’t think of eating in.
