Bait and switch: the pictures of the outside building is not where your room is. You have to check in at the beautiful looking restaurant but walk down the street and around a corner to find the box shaped hostel like building. The wall paper inside the room is peeling and ripped. Towels are old and thread bare. Bed is hard and pillows don’t hold their shape, thus your head. Breakfast advertised for 10 euros on Hotels.com but was actually 15. You get a plate of cold cuts, bread basket, yogurt and a cup of grapes and melon. As advertised on Hotels.com “limited parking “ means x1 spot! We had to find a paid parking. If I were in my 20s traveling the country with a backpack this place would be perfect. I’m traveling cross country in a car with 2 friends.
Our stay in Triberg was in a cozy, cabin-style room that had a lot of charm. Check-in was a bit unconventional — we had to go to a restaurant up the road to pick up the key and check in. Thankfully, our taxi driver from the train station was familiar with the setup and got us there without any trouble.
Triberg itself is a very cute town, but it’s worth noting that most places close quite early — often by 6 or 7 PM — so plan accordingly if you want to shop or grab dinner.
Overall, a charming and peaceful place to stay, especially if you’re looking for a quiet escape.
Our disappointment started from the check-in experience. There was no one at the building and as per the instructions we had to find the restaurant that was 5-7 minutes walk uphill with lot of luggage, collect the keys and go back to the room.
First impression of the room was very good, but that quickly changed into disappointment when we realised that they had not provided basic items. There was no shower gel. Luckily there was a cleaner who was cleaning other rooms. When we asked for the shower gel, she asked to collect the hand-wash from the toiler in a glass and use it in the shower!! Really? I never imagined that a hotel that has charged over £100 per night + local taxes and that does not include the breakfast, doesn't provide the shower gel!! Use a glass to collect it from the wash basin??
The shower has no doors, just a shower curtain. The shower tub is almost at the level of the floor, curtain not long enough to reach the floor, and so there is water everywhere after you take the shower.
No hot water kettle, no means of making tea or coffee in the room.
The toilet had no lid. Just open all the time!!
On a better side, the beds and pillows were good. They had given bottled water and glasses, but that was sparkling water. They could have asked whether we prefer still or sparkling!
Overall, not at all worth for the money they charged us. I do not recommend this hotel at all.
I booked this hotel for a night on 23 June. Long before my arrival, I emailed this hotel on 16 June informing them about my late arrival after 2100hr. and requesting for late check-in. The hotel emailed me on 18 June, telling me the key would be stored in the key box next to the entrance door. They also sent me the password for the key box. However, when I stood at the hotel door on 23 June, keying in the password to the key box, no key fell out. I stood helplessly at the hotel door, with all my luggage. I called the hotel phone but caught no one. I also emailed the hotel, but again got no response. I thought I needed to spend the night on the street with all my luggage. Luckily there was another hotel nearby where Iwas able to walk in and obtain a room to spend the night. Now I returned home 2 weeks after this episode, I still got no response from the hotel, not even a "sorry" which made me very disappointed.
The property has recently been renovated so was clean and tidy and very warm. The staff were very friendly and accommodating with our limited German. The breakfast was delicious and well worth the extra.
Firstly, the actual accommodation is in a modern apartment block down a side street, not the cute building shown in the listing.
Secondly, I booked a ‘family room’ for my brother an I to have separate beds, but was given a standard double. Iit took a long and heated argument with the owner before we were finally given the ‘apartment’ that matched the photos on the Expedia listing. Very poor customer service.
Thirdly, the apartment, while spacious, was very basic and lacked kettle, fridge or anything that might justify calling it an apartment,
Oh, and the previous client’s leftover bottles were still in a cupbaord.
I did read mixed reviews on this property - however, if you are properly aware before you book, you will enjoy it. The gasthaus is separate from the pretty building with the restaurant in it. (About 200 yards downhill). You can park at no charge up behind the restaurant but then it is a hike to where your room is. We found it easier to pay for parking overnight in the public lot immediately across from the gasthaus. Very short walk.
We ate dinner in the restaurant in the larger room at the rear with the charming beamed ceiling. Since we had vegetarian pizza, I can’t comment on the Bavarian dishes cooked here. Our waiter was attentive, friendly and fun to talk to.
If you are expecting an American style breakfast, you will be disappointed. We had a selection of cold cuts and cheeses, some hot seeded rolls, orange juice, coffee and fruit. If this is not good for you, I would suggest not buying the breakfast and perhaps trying the bakery down the hill. Our waitress at breakfast spoke no English but was again very friendly and we managed to make ourselves understood. So the negative comments I read elsewhere about the staff were unfounded at least during our stay. The room was nice, had a great shower and we used the radiant floor heat (twist the dials in the bathroom and the bedroom). Our visit was in September when it was cool - summer may be a different experience. The hotel will give you a ticket that lets you in to the waterfalls, the Black Forest museum and Fantasy.
It was a surprise to be told our room was in a completely other building than the one shown on Expedia. Kind of disappointed, but after staying in the other building it turn out to be very nice.
In the heart of Triberg near markets, bakeries, cuckoo clock makers, and the highest waterfall in Germany.
Clean and centrally located.
Confortable room and bathroom. Bus stop in the corner. Nice river next to apartments.
The reception is in a restaurant and rooms are in another building one block away. Restaurant was closed when I went to do the the chech in, finally someone apears.
I went to the restaurant to checkout and it was closed, I went back to the apartment and left the keys inside.
Sehr freundlich, extra gefragt was man zum Frühstück essen kann (Allergiker). Gutes Preis- Leistungsverhältnis! Würde wieder hinfahren!
What not what I expected -- photos made it look like a roadside hotel. When, in fact, it is in the busy part of the town. And the hotel we were in was two blocks away from the registration. Room was good, we had parking right next to hotel, but only because we checked in early, and got the lone spot next to hotel. Food was good and we had a "private" breakfast -- we were the only one there. But the owner was great and very accommodating.
We cannot fault the service and the host. But very. Deceiving as we thought we were staying at the guest house as in photo but no it’s a block of rooms down the street .
A shuttle from train to hotel would be nice when you have to carry luggage 2km up hill
The rooms were clean and comfortable. Great location
It's important to note that the rooms are located in a guest house a street away (900ft) from the half-timbered restaurant. Do not bring your luggage to the restaurant to check-in! With that said, we were actually really happy with the accommodations. The room was spacious, updated, quiet and clean. Had dinner at the restaurant which was lovely. Breakfast in the morning was huge- best deal of our trip!
Check-in in different location. Long hike up hill to their restaurant for check in. If it was noted we would have stopped their first.
Friendly and good price. No AC but with windows open very comfortable end of June, but you could hear people talking close by.
❤️❤️❤️❤️
It was such a cute place! We stayed in the family room and it was like a big slumber party! The breakfast was so good and the staff were absolutely the sweetest!
The picture shown is not the guest house. It’s the owner’s cafe and restaurant. The owner’s guest house is located about 200m away. The owner allowed us to park our rented car outside the guest house at no charge.
The guest house is located at town center of Triberg. It’s a walking distance to the Triberg waterfall and a short driving distance away from the world’s largest cuckoo clock. Supermarket, restaurants and cafes were just within walking distance.
The room and bathroom quality was good. The owner and his staffs were very friendly. However the room at the guest house was at the ground floor and the windows are right at the pedestrian walkway of the street. It can be noisy in the early morning. The pillows were not comfortable.
