So great, so quiet
the overall atmosphere, design, location, art and the truth in Bawa’s style.

The Full Breakfast was the best of my trip, excellent, beautifully cooked and so tasty. The dinner menu is quite varied but we chose the Sri Lankan curry which was really delicious. The pre dinner free gin and tonics served in the gardens looking out at the amazing view as the sun began to set were superb!! The whole place is just dreamy, a real experience. Being a bird lover there were so many different species, and their sounds, so tropical! The knowledgeable staff member Suneth helped with pointing out and identifying birds for me. The guided garden tour on arrival was so interesting, and then afterwards being able to wander around knowing the history of each particular garden area was very beneficial. The atmosphere of this property and its gardens is truly magical!
I thought that the twin beds in the Gatehouse were old and not to the standard they should be. My view is that they need to be replaced with new more comfortable ones. Also the room felt and smelt damp, and the bathroom needs more privacy, ie its surrounding wall needs to go up to the ceiling!! Overall I think this particular room definitely needs careful renovating making it more comfortable but retaining some of its quirky features.
I loved staying at Lunuganga and experiencing the wonderful house, buildings, garden and history of Geoffrey Bawa. It's truly a unique experience in a unique house and garden.
At check out, I was asked to complete a comment card with 16 questions and comments requested. I said I would complete the online review and reassured them that all was good and I enjoyed my stay. I was already dealing with the next part of my trip and check out. In the following 30 minutes before I left Lunuganga, i was presured strongly by 3 further staff to complete and return this comment card,.I again said I would do the review online. This negative experience in the last 30 minutes of my stay unfortunately leaves a bad memory, and after such an enjoyable stay it was a shame.
History, location and interior design of the facility as well as the choice of food and the friendliness of the staff.
The house and gardens are just incredible. The staff are charming and attentive and the food exceptional. I loved my yoga sessions under a tree. It was magical to see a kingfisher and many other birds. The “ house” mongoose is a real character!
My room in the house was regarded as special but was a little dark
Beautiful location on the lake with wonderful garden and gorgeous art objects. Geoffrey Bawa's design using squares, black and white, beautiful vistas were very pleasing to the eye.
I'd been wanting to stay at this famed estate for 10 years and it certainly didn't disappoint. Our stay was simply perfect: secluded, we wandered through the gardens just the two of us, swam in the infinity pool and lay in the sun-dappled shade with the sound of the breeze through the trees and all sorts of birds chirping. Our dinner was on the lawn and under the moon and stars; breakfast was delicious and plentiful, and the staff friendly and knowledgeable but not overly-attentive. We now want to visit all Teardrop Hotels!
Slightly punchier than expected prices but our stay was a treat!
