Location.
Definitely not worth the price. When we got in the a/c in the room was off, so the inside temperature was 89 F; not great after a 4 hours drive and a very hot day. We turn on the a/c above the bed and after a while condensation water starts dripping on the bed. So the choice at night was either a damp bed or a hot room given that the window a/c unit was very loud. We contacted the staff via Booking but didn’t reply until after checkout, so not very useful.
Additionally, the bathroom door was very loud when closing, and you could hear the people upstairs whenever they walked, so we didn’t get any good sleep.
Definitely not a good stay at all. It’s just an old house.
Beautiful manor house converted into a hotel, with a good lobby bar in an exceptional setting. This is a self-stay property which worked really well and is very convenient - feels more like a BnB than a hotel. The room was clean, spacious, comfortable and oozed with charm - just like the rest of the property. Wifi is excellent, and parking was convenient. Great location, close to the lake with easy access to town.
Beware that there is no elevator so request a lower floor as needed.
Location, parking, rapid response to questions, charm
This mansion is absolutely better than a hotel! It makes you feel like you are going back in time. The original woodwork, comfort of the room, and ambience are like no other.
Nothing at all!
I liked the architecture and the style of the room.
The sheets were not cleaned everyday.
Location was fabulous and I love how you preserved the original woodwork. The local soaps and steady hot water were also a bonus. Proximity to museums, lake unexpected and beautiful-- why no literature about local attractions in the room? People-watching the commuters was fun.
I got a lot of emails pushing another local restaurant which got confusing to wade through when I was trying to find my reservation details. I'd push it once, at the same time you deliver the key code. What I would hype are the parking opportunities nearby outside of the $35 dollar spaces for the hotel. Save the $35 ones for emergency booking for last-minute guests. Planners will find out about the cheaper slots nearby which are also a boon to the hotel and can be pre-booked online.
How a lot of the hotel kept its original woodwork of its age
Nothing
Great Location for Lakefront/Summerfest
Didn't have breakfast. Was a very pleasant stay and we'll definitely be back.
Location and historic building
Hours of bar. Could have been decorated to be more welcoming
Nice place with character, best bar in mke downstairs.
Super fast text responses to questions and requests
Nice place to stay.
The Hotel was very quiet and accommodating.
Self-service check in and available parking on property for $35/day.
We liked you didn't get room keys but a personal code to enter the hotel and your room.
I'm good at losing them.
Will come back!
Thanks
Was worried about no front desk but check in was easy!
Staying at the Dubbel Dutch was one of the worst hotel experiences of my life, and I have traveled extensively. For the price point, I expected a true luxury hotel and this was anything but. First, the three-story building is not ADA compliant and it does not have an elevator, so if you are mobility impaired, you're out of luck. Second, there are no fire escapes so if you're not in one of the few rooms on the first floor and an emergency happens, there's no way people on the second and third floors can escape. Third, there are no employees or staff on site. NONE. They provide a number to call or text with any "issues" but only between the hours of 9 am to 5 pm. Fourth, if you have a car and wish to park in their open lot, adjacent to the building, they will charge you $35 even as there are more parking spots than rooms. Fifth, the decor is atrocious...nothing "lux" about it, including the underwhelming bathtubs. Sixth, the window unit air conditioning is LOUD, so good luck sleeping. The only positive aspect of the entire experience, other than leaving as quickly as I could, was the mattress. Save some money and give this place a pass.
Dubbel Dutch was one of the strangest hotel experiences of my life - there was no receptionist or staff anywhere. I needed a different room because the room they gave me was an unnervingly creepy attic room with a staircase inside the room that led to an even creepier storage space that was gated off so that I couldn't even investigate my unique circumstances. There were signs everywhere that said 'Call us if you need anything at all' but the call went to a voice messaging system. I never got a return call. I tried texting per their suggestion and that too went nowhere. I had to sleep with the lights on and heavily medicated. The renovation job on what was surely a grande dame of Milwaukee architecture was so cheap and poorly executed (painting over original woodwork and deciding on a modern aesthetic over a period aesthetic) was terribly executed. No room service, no food. At the last second before I arrived, I was told it would be $35 to park onsite. The parking lot was empty. I have been conned.
