We recently attended afternoon tea at this hotel with a large family group. When we arrived the room had not been set out as requested. We enquired to see if this could be changed to what had been previously agreed. We were told this wasn't possible because other meals were to be served. No one else came in for food while our Parth was there.
When the food arrived we had an issue. We had ordered 7 normal afternoon teas and one vegetarian afternoon tea. When it arrived we had 6 normal afternoon teas and one vegetarian afternoon tea.We spoke to our waitress and explained what had happened and why it had happened. It was due to the vegetarian plate just having that serving on while the other plates had servings on for two people.
The other waitress in the room eventually brought the missing plate of sandwiches which had two servings on. She put the plate down and exclaimed this plate is for two in a very sullen manner.I again explained what the issue had been and why the serving had been short. After this we didn't see that waitress again!
When we had our egg sandwiches mine had egg shells in it and another party member had hair in his.
The scones tasted of baking powder and were quite dry.
I emailed the hotel on returning home as I thought it should be brought to their attention to ensure this didn't happen again.I didn't raise it at the time as we didn't want to cause embarrassment.
To date there has been no response from the hotel.
Love the design and history of this hotel. Spacious spotless rooms, delicious breakfast, great location.

Beautifully decorated hotel. Lovely room. Loved the bathroom
Nothing
Excellent
Ideally located hotel for visiting the city. The main building has a classy and stylish interior. So very interesting that it has kept it's links to the Coventry Evening telegraph. We stayed in room 24. It was lovely and clean. Again the rooms kept it links to the Newspaper. The beds were so comfy. I would have given it a score of 10 but for the pillows. Lumpy and really uncomfortable. Such a shame.
The pillows. So uncomfortable!
I don't know why they would put these pillows on a bed. The even look lumpy.
Breakfast was fabulous staff were brilliant
My room was by a door and it banged constantly very poor
Quirky old newspaper hotel. Rooms were comfortable and had ac.
Nothing. It was great.
Comfortable, clean, lovely staff. Good food. Interesting hotel. A pleasant atmosphere. A really enjoyable stay. Central to all of the visitor attractions in Coventry.
There wasn't anything that I didn't like. But as a suggestion it would be interesting to see display boards telling the visitor the history of the hotel before it became a hotel.
Air con was amazing
Everything was great
Amazing stay. Room large and perfect temperature. Peaceful especially given its location overlooking the fountain. They thoughtfully put small cakes and a card in the room for my bitlhday.. Didnt choose breakfast option
Parking an issue as Belgrade plaza car park closed.
