My husband and I celebrated our anniversary here and we loved every minute of our stay. The staff had great hospitality and customer service was 10’s across the board! We will definitely be back again.
I loved the heated pool. The bed was so comfortable that I slept better than I have in a year!
Check in was delayed due to a computer problem. The room was small and had no coffee or mini fridge.
The interior design is lovely, modern and refreshing. There are attempts to remind people to be quiet in the corridors (even though the signs are ignored)
I got a moldy cake slice (Zucchini & Chocolate) from Claudette's Cafe.
I would be lovely to have a kettle in the room with tea and coffee.
There was a frequent alarm/buzz sound that could be heard from my room - 418.
The front desk woman Alexa was so nice and knowledgeable and went out of her way to make my stay a comfortable one.
There was no garbage can and the bathroom had hair all in it and was not cleaned thoroughly.
Everything was great, we had a great time. The staff is super nice, the hotel is very cozy and stylish, great view. The sauna and the pool is a great bonus
the audibility in the room, but it’s not a big issue. The sauna could have been less permeable to air. It cooled down quickly in the strong winter wind. Next morning it was much better
I’ll be posting a separate review of the spa and therapist at the end of this hotel review, because the experience truly deserves special mention.
This was our first time staying here, and we ended up booking an extra day—possibly even another. Now, I'm not going to pretend it is cheap; it is not. But it is value for money.
The hotel is lovely, and the staff are consistently warm, attentive, and welcoming. The food is excellent, and the décor has a relaxed, beach vibe that feels just right given the hotel’s proximity—only a few blocks—to Rockaway Beach. We came here to rejuvenate at the end of an awful year, and honestly, who cares if it’s winter and a major snowstorm is on the way? We feel comfortable, cared for, and at ease. Considering staying there for New Year's Eve/day.
We stayed in a two-bedroom bungalow with stunning views of Manhattan, along with access to a heated outdoor pool and a sauna. Would we stay here again? Absolutely.
A couple of suggestions for management: adding sound-absorbing tiles or patterned acoustic panels on the walls would help reduce echo in the living room and bedrooms. Also, the living room furniture would benefit from higher seating. The current setup is relatively low and not ideal for guests with back or hip issues. Lastly, in-room reusable water bottles could be cheaper.
Building automatic roof and side panels around the pool would make it more comfortable in the wintertime. Heating the pool is such a plus. cover over
Now, the spa experience—this deserves its own spotlight.
This was my first visit to the spa, and I cannot say enough about Miss Jeanne, my massage therapist. She is absolutely exceptional. As a World Trade Center toxic dust cancer survivor who has endured three aggressive cancers, recent surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation, my body has been through a great deal. Each day presents its own challenges—particularly with my legs, feet, arms, and hands. The neuropathy in my hands and feet has been exceptionally debilitating.
This was my very first massage experience, and after just two sessions with Miss Jeanne, I genuinely feel a difference. Her healing hands seem to know exactly where and how to work—helping my body release deeply held tension and reconnect in ways I didn’t think were possible. The relief has been both physical and emotional.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you, Miss Jeanne. She is a true gem and an invaluable asset to the Rockaway team. I would also like to acknowledge the spa receptionist, who was warm, welcoming, and genuinely kind.
Très confortable
We were stuck in New York due to mechanical issues and the airline put us up in The Rockaway. I am glad I didn’t believe all the negative reviews. The two young ladies that checked us in were warm and welcoming. The hotel has a really cool vibe. Room was clean and well appointed. Small, but normal for NYC standards. Bed was comfy. We had a room with a view of the city. Only wish the weather was nicer to enjoy the rooftop bar and pool.
The front desk recommended Margie’s and we are so happy we had an early dinner there. Delicious and Christian, our waiter was attentive and helpful with his favorites.
We would stay at The Rockaway again if ever in the area. It is around 20-40 minutes from JFK depending on traffic just so you know as the airline showed only 5 miles away!!!
Everything
Worst hotel experience ever. Front desk staff was rude and not knowledgeable. Housekeeping was horrible, they barely cleaned the room at all. In my 10 day stay they came in every day and not once was my floor swept or mopped (wood floor), surfaces were not cleaned or wiped down and their idea of making the bed was to take the existing sheets and covers off, throw them on a dirty floor and put them back on never got a clean sheet the whole stay. Also had to hunt them down everyday as they would never provide toilet paper. There is no phone in the room to call front desk or housekeeping. The in room technology they say they have does not work either. QR codes you are told to use for in room dining just take you to the website where you can read the menus but can not order, still need to call the front desk. Casting on the TV never worked and when I called to inquire the front desk agent literally told me they had no idea what I was talking about even though it is offered on the TV. There is one vending machine in the hotel that has foo foo books and gifts, not a single vending machine for water, soda, juice, snacks. You are forced to buy their reusable water bottles at $10 a bottle and refill them. If you want soda, juice, snacks you need to buy and bring in but dot bring in food because there is no way to heat it. No microwave anywhere, no refrigerator in the room (at least not in the luxury king room I stayed in). Food at Margies was ok at best but service in the restaurant was just as bad as he hotel itself. Rockaway Beach is my home town and I was so excited that there was finally a hotel to stay in, what a major disappointment.
Very sleekly designed and hip boutique hotel near the beach. Very comfortable and pleasant rooms with thoughtful and original touches. Really nice restaurant with great food.
Our family gathered here for a 3-day autumn weekend at this contemporary boutique hotel. Attentive, courteous service, beautiful contemporary decor and inviting common areas with abundant artwork. Great views of ocean or NYC skyline from room balconies, although rooms are rather small. Best part for our family was the "bungalow", a 2-bedroom, 2-bath spacious apartment with full kitchen, living room, and laundry. Perfect for our crowd to hang together and watch the World Series on TV. Even better than an Air B&B because of the hotel amenities steps away: heated pool, outdoor saunas, poolside restaurant/bar, yoga studio, spa, even bikes to borrow for riding along miles of paved boardwalk. Rockaway Beach is gorgeous. This hotel is steps away from the boardwalk/beach and quaint coffee, pastry, bagel, and spa shops. Highly recommend this place.
Gave us food poisoning and house keeping threw out our travel crib case- management doesn’t care
