While we experienced a minor snafu during a late night check-in, the rest of our last minute visit was perfect. The hotel refresh is lovely and totally hits the mark for charming coastal chic, and we appreciated all of the amenities such as towels, beach chairs and umbrellas, coffee in the lobby, etc. We also appreciated being able to get breakfast sandwiches and and lattes in the lobby on the weekends as we weren't in the mood for a longer meal at the restaurant.
The most notable part of our visit; however, was the impeccable service we received - especially from Cassie at the front desk. Cassie went above and beyond fixing the check-in issue and making things right; she also arranged for my dress and sweater to be laundered after learning an inebriated patron at an off site restaurant dropped an entire full drink on me the evening before. When the weather turned warm (unexpectedly early in the season), she arranged for chairs and umbrellas to be brought out of an offsite storage unit (thank you, Derek for having them set up for us every day before we even made it out to the beach)! Everything we needed or asked for she made happen and she did so with a smile - I wanted to bring her home with me! It's clear she understands great customer service... I hope they understand what a wonderful employee they have! We had a great time and hope to visit again soon.
My wife and I had the perfect stay! I don’t say that often. Have traveled extensively and this is one of my favorites places. The Staff, accommodations and the great vibes were over the top. Resort itself was phenomenal and done with guest comfort as main goal. Would recommend for a great time!
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! The resort is phenomenal - the rooms are so so comfortable. The Pillows - I truly wanted to sneak one home. BUT - one of the highlights was meeting Vernette - our INCREDIBLE housekeeper. Heck - I wanted to keep her. She is by far one of the biggest assets at the Sanderling - be sure to meet her if you can! Thank you Sanderling for a memory that will last our life time :)
We had an amazing time at The Sanderling Resort, the room was fabulous!!! And the trip would not have been the same without Miss Vernette, she greeted us with so much joy and happiness each time we met in her in the hallways!! She is a beautiful person with a genuine heart!!!!!!❤️
It's a beautiful resort and I visit often. The staff is very kind and helpful and the location is one of the most beautiful places in the US. The spa is also wonderful! You have everything in the resort, plus so many activities and shopping options (in season).
My husband and I came to the Sanderling for a much needed romantic getaway. We stayed in the North building in an ocean view King. From the moment we walked into to the spotless, newly renovated room we knew it would be a weekend to remember. The bathroom was sparkling clean and well stocked with towels. We opened our balcony door and let the sound of the ocean carry us away. That night we had dinner at the Lifesaving Station and the service was quick and efficient and the food was delicious. Each morning we saw the sunrise over the ocean from the beach and walked to the main lobby in the Beach House to get coffee which was fresh and delicious. Every staff member we saw and spoke too was pleasant and helpful. They all seemed to generally enjoy their jobs and i could see why. The decor of the hotel was beautifully appointed and the attention to detail was superb. We felt lucky to me staying at a location where we could see the sunrise of the ocean and the sunset over the sound and nearly the same spot. The location cannot be beat. We had to reschedule our original stay from February because of some unexpected changes where we had gotten the stay two nights get the third one free. While we could not get the exact same deal for our March stay, Lisa in reservations was kind enough to work with me to get us a complimentary upgrade so the the value for the timing and the room was amazing
Sanderling Resort exceeded my expectations. The room was beautiful and affordable with a great view, and the atmosphere was relaxing. The staff was great and stood out for their professionalism and kindness always attentive and friendly. It was a memorable stay, and I’d gladly return for another couple of days of luxury and tranquility.
Coastal charm at its finest. My recent stay at The Sanderling Resort was warm, welcoming, and truly memorable. The Beach House is beautifully situated and centrally located on the property, making it easy to enjoy everything the resort has to offer. The room was clean, spacious, and well-appointed perfect for a comfortable week-long stay. Even during the cooler weather, the accommodations were cozy, and the views were exceptional, with stunning sunrises and sunsets each day. A wonderful coastal escape that delivers comfort, location, and scenery.
We had an absolutely amazing stay at The Sanderling Resort in Duck, NC. From the moment we arrived, the level of service from the entire staff stood out — every interaction was welcoming, professional, and genuinely kind. You could truly feel that everyone cared about making our stay special.
The food and service at Lifesaving Station were exceptional. Each meal was beautifully prepared, flavorful, and thoughtfully presented, and the service matched the quality of the food perfectly. It quickly became a highlight of our visit.
Our room was wonderful — comfortable, clean, and well-appointed — and the meeting spaces were equally impressive. They were well designed, functional, and supported by an attentive team that made everything seamless.
Although it was cold during our winter visit, the property team went above and beyond to accommodate every request with positive attitudes and genuine smiles, which made all the difference. Their warmth truly offset the winter chill.
We will most certainly be returning — not only in the summer, but again in the winter as well. The Sanderling Resort delivers an outstanding experience year-round, and we can’t wait to come back.
Recently stayed at the Sanderling and it was such a wonderful trip! I got an 80 minute massage and an hour long facial done at the spa and they were fantastic and so relaxing! We had breakfast and dinner at the life saving station and every meal was delicious! The staff were attentive and kind and assured we had a great stay. Nothing beats the views and great location between Duck and Corolla. We are already planning our trip back for the summer!
We have been returning to this resort for years! The outside bar and dining has been amazing. They remember our family and constantly provide impeccable service.
The rooms are always clean and our requests are met without hesitation. The family loves the yoga in the mornings and the game station upstairs. We love utilizing the fire pits for s'mores and relaxation. Can't say enough about the staff and amenities. We will be back soon, can't wait!
We really enjoyed our stay at The Sanderling. I thought our room in the north building was super nice without being pretentious. Perfect at this price point and for the area (Duck). My kids liked the hot tub (open in December) and the fire pits/smores. The staff were all great as well. We’re already planning our next visit in the spring.
I would not recommend this hotel. While our 3d floor unit had a nice view, during our 4 day stay the elevator remained broken. The shower had only slightly more than a trickle of water and the bath tub drain also functioned poorly. Only the smallest of their three restaurant/bars was open, which was inadequate for the number of guests at the property. While the breakfast was tasty, the building had almost no heat. The whole place gives the impression no one cares about proper maintenance. And at very high prices, with various "resort fees" tacked on that jacked up the total. Overall very disappointing.
Last week my wife and I had a wonderful stay at The Sanderling Resort that included celebrating our 60th Wedding Anniversary. We have stayed there numerous times in the past, and were looking for a quiet spot and a relaxing getaway. Certainly this time of year The Sanderling provided just what we wanted. We were impressed with the recent renovations and glad to see that the resort has not lost its beach side charm.
As always, it is the staff, and their attention, that make the visit truly outstanding. We would like to highlight several of those folks that contributed to our great experience:
• Heather was our first contact at the resort when we confirmed our reservation prior to our arrival. Upon hearing it was our 60th anniversary, she graciously indicated she could upgrade us to a special room. The room she put us in certainly made the stay memorable. Our view of the sunset was one of the most spectacular to date. Her consideration made the trip really special.
• Calvin, the Guest Services Manager, was manning the reception desk on our arrival. He also helped with baggage, passed out resort information, and local tips. We saw a lot of him during the stay--seems he spent a lot of time on duty. I suspected that if we had needed some maintenance action, he would have been the one to show up.
• Tracy, at the Life Saving Station restaurant, was amazing. She appeared to be the only person working the front of the restaurant and was the waitress, server, bartender, and clean-up. She was always moving, fun, and never missed a beat.
• Vicky provided our housekeeping support. Unfortunately, we never had a chance to meet her, but appreciated her efforts and our room was always immaculately kept.
• We enjoyed conversations at the front desk with both Callan in the evening and Lisa at checkout. Both very personable and pleasant.
We thank all of them for their efforts in making our stay special and memorable.
Best regards,
Chuck and Phyllis
amazing stay, delicious food, and wonderful staff!!! I'll absolutely be back with my boyfriend and friends to celebrate my 30th in the summer!
I do not know how anyone can give them more than a 1 star review. The restaurant had 1 other table for lunch. When we arrived breakfast was still sitting on all the tables not cleared off. It took us 30 minutes to get our drinks. Another hour to get our meals. When it was time to check out it took another 45 minutes for them to figure that out. There was a total of four people in the restaurant for over 2 hours and they could not take care of us. We did not end up staying in our hotel because it stunk so bad! I have not seen worst customer service than we witnessed!
In a word: Yikes.
In as many as Trip Advisor will allow:
First off, I’ll give credit where credit is due and say the staff was friendly enough and the bed was comfortable.
Now that I’m finished with the positives…My wife and I got married on a Friday, and we were so excited to spend a mini honeymoon on the OBX. When we booked the room we were asked if we were celebrating anything and obviously we wrote we would be coming down right after our wedding! When we arrived, two of our bank cards (from completely unrelated accounts) were declined and we were told we had to contact our bank. Welcome! After speaking to our bank, we went back insisting it was not our issue and sure enough one of their payment terminals doesn’t work properly and it was a known issue on their end. Then, after a rushed rundown of the very few “amenities” we were given our room. Not once in the entire process were we given so much as a “Congratulations!” We weren’t looking for free hand outs, but why even ask if there’s a special occasion if you aren’t going to do a single thing? I’ve worked in restaurants for 15 years and I’ve given away more to $100 birthday dinners.
The entire place gives off a general sense of disrepair. The men’s room at the outside bar was insane. Cracked and empty paper towel holder, no soap, and the bar at the top of the door was literally ripped off the wall with 2+ years of rust damage and preventing the door from being opened properly. The bathroom was locked up before I could get a picture. What I have attached a picture of is the door latch to our back balcony, which room service LEFT OPEN on our second day. Don’t expect to feel safe here. Again, it’s only a $40/night resort fee what do you expect? Don’t worry though, through all this stress you can find comfort in an outdoor solo cup cocktail for the low price of $18-22.
One of the weirdest parts was that multiple times that we would head out for a meal, there would be two staff members just standing at the door waiting to open it for us. Really feels like putting the cart before the horse, acting like they’re giving us white glove service meanwhile our thermostat is reading low battery and our back door can’t lock properly.
A final word of warning. I spent 5 years of my restaurant career on the OBX, as well as personally dining all over the beach. I can honestly say that the health inspection score of the Lifesaving Station Restaurant on the property is the lowest I have ever seen, two whole points lower than the Kitty Hawk McDonald’s used to be before it was shut down. Dine at your own risk.
I look forward to an AI generated response from the new GM, and I hope the time I’ve taken to write this will prevent anyone from making the same mistake we did.
The Sanderling has undergone a long overdue thorough renovation where the rooms and common areas have been completely transformed.
The vibe is what I woould call "coastal elegant." The location is superb, right on the beach in Duck , on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. We did a lot of walking around on the sound side nature trails and reading ion the second floor of the Beach House.
There are also nce restaurants and bars on the property and pools and bikes available. Finally, the staff is very knowledgable and friendly.
I've heard about this resort for a long time so wanted to go. We went in mid October. Room rate was over $600 a night (but lower with one free night) for a king with a sofa and sitting area but facing the parking lot! Be sure to ask about your view. Rooms on the ocean side can't see the ocean on the first and second floors. Lovely room and hotel but significantly overpriced. On site restaurant, the Lighthouse, is a disappointment. Food is unique but quality is fair.
The location is beautiful and the property has plenty of charm. There is quite a bit of work to be done to give a recommendation. The room and windows were filthy, the shower pressure was inferior, and the screen doors and balconies were in disrepair. Also, the temperature is 10 degrees warmer on the third floor compared to the first. For the price, you expect more. The Lifesaving Station is an extremely poor restaurant. The food was decent, but waiting for your first coffee to arrive 20 minutes after you are seated is ridiculous. There are positives, such as a friendly staff, beautiful scenery, amazing location; however, they just couldn't outweigh the negatives. They really need to invest the crazy amount of money they are getting for the rooms back into the building.
