It was ok.
Pros:

It was centrally located

Cons:

Trucks outside were loud. Decor was a lot of smoke and mirrors- nothing of substance. The sheets and pillows were scratchy.

Stylish Stay in a Perfect Location with Great Food & Margaritas at Hotel Magdalena
Pros:

I loved the location of Hotel Magdalena — it’s perfectly situated and makes getting around Austin super easy. The decoration is beautiful and thoughtfully designed, with a very cool, relaxed vibe that really fits the city. The beds were extremely comfortable, which made for a great night’s sleep. The on-site restaurant was also excellent — the food was delicious and the margaritas were especially good!

Cons:

We did have a small issue with our first room, as there were a few hairs in the bed. However, the staff handled it very well and kindly moved us to another room right away, which we really appreciated.

It sucked!
Pros:

Well - a few minutes after arriving, I got stuck in an elevator for a few minutes.... (the elevator near room #200)
Once I got out of the elevator, I couldn't find a staircase from the 2nd floor to the 1st floor - I didn't want to get back in an elevator; Monday evening in an attempt to get room service, no one answered -I had to go down to the restaurant and order it myself;
I woke up at 5:30 in the morning to get to Court by 8:00 - the coffee pot didn't work - couldn't drink coffee until 7:00 am;
Not coming back... I'll go back to Hotel San Jose.... Kimberly Gardner

Cons:

elevators that work; people answering the phone; working coffee pots...

Exceptional Service from Colton and Ivy. Seamless Early Check-In and Perfect Sunlit Room!
Pros:

Colton and Ivy made my early check-in experience seamless! I called the night before arrival, and Colton kindly accommodated my request for an early check-in (I was landing at 9 AM and needed to jump straight into scheduled business calls). When I arrived, Ivy efficiently checked me in and even assigned a bright, sunlit room—just what I had hoped for. I highly recommend this hotel!

Top Notch Hotel With an Odd Layout
Pros:

I'll preface my review with context. In August 2025, A co-worker and I visited this hotel while searching for a place for 30 co-workers to come together at our annual company retreat. We explored a number of hotels, but Hotel Magdalena was the clear winner, based on our budget and needs, which included:
1. Location within walking distance of restaurants, coffee shops/trucks, shops, and attractions
2. Beautiful common grounds
3. Great catering options for breakfast and lunch buffets to be served to 30 guests
4. A fully equipped meeting room that for 30+ guests, including facilities for audio/visual and buffet food service
5. Friendly staff and a employees that our proud to work for their hotel.
6. Nice rooms with all expected amenities for a great hotel.

We were thrilled with choosing Hotel Magdalena for our company retreat, which was held in October 2025. The rooms were beautifully appointed and very well designed for the needs of our guests. The conference room was the best we've used in the ten years of our company's history I loved the staff, who worked with me every day to ensure the needs of our guests were always met.

There are some quirks of the hotel to mention:

The layout of rooms on the upper floors are somewhat frustratingly out of easy reach to other areas within the hotel grounds. Once our guests figured out some shortcuts, it worked out okay, but nobody was happy about the complexity of moving from one place to another, without being forced to use the extremely slow elevators.

Example: To access our conference room on the ground floor from my 2nd floor room, I had to use the closest flight of stairs to access the pool area, which must be unlocked using your room key. If you need to access the pool area early in the morning, your room key is disabled. The hack is to reach over the gate and unlock it manually. Why not walk around the pool instead? Because there is no direct path around the pool area to the main conference room grounds. You have to walk all the way around the perimeter of the hotel and return to the conference room area, which is annoying if repeated throughout the day.

If you are in the conference room and want to access the floor above, that requires a lengthy trek around the hotel perimeter as well, even though there is a direct stairwell between the two floors. The stairwell is reserved for staff only, though you can request access to it through the staff at the reservation desk.

Despite these quirks, I rate this hotel as excellent, given the beautiful grounds, top-notch service, fantastic catering service, an ideal location just off of S. Congress Ave, about a 25 minute brisk walk to the Capital building and an even shorter walk to the Congress Avenue so-called "Bat Bridge", and reasonable prices.

We will be back!!
Pros:

The grounds of the property are gorgeous! The Le Labo is a really nice surprise. The rooms are decorated beautifully and we love the old school phone. And you can’t beat the location. The staff is super friendly and attentive.

Cons:

The AC seemed to turn off at night and the room got a little warm. Also, the water took a really long time to heat up.

Location and quality doesn’t get any better in the city.
Pros:

What a gem. Lived in Austin for years before moving away earlier in the year - didn’t know that Hotel Magdalena had been built! Happy to have come across it when coming back to town and even happier that we booked it. Clean rooms, immaculate property, and the staff is a friendly smile the whole time.

Ivy was helpful in anything we needed and was such a good presence on the property.

Highly recommend if you’re looking for a great hotel in a great location.

Pros:

Location and layout

Cons:

The pool transats are all sloping downstairs which is very uncomfortable. Seems like an easy fix / rookie oversight.

There is no Gym and no access to a local gym. You have to pay 100usd for a day pass… for a hotel this expensive, it’s borderline criminal not to have a gym.
