It’s SUPER NOISY. Avoid at all costs staying here. They built the hotel right next to a distribution center of some sorts that have really loud trucks every early morning loading stuff and making crazy noise. The windows are not sound proof and won’t block it either.
The vibe, the staff all excellent. The room had a private, screened balcony with a working ceiling fan. It was excellent. Lots of tree coverage so it feels secluded.
Only complaint: was the bed was as hard as a rock.
Overall, this was a decent value and I love Bunkhouse as a brand. I mainly stayed for the pool, which I enjoyed, and the soaps were great.
That said, the room design was not my favorite. The bathroom door was right next to the bed, the sink was in the bedroom instead of the bathroom, and the shower pressure was surprisingly weak while the sink pressure was overly strong. The elevator was also very slow and poorly ventilated, and the stair layout made getting to reception inconvenient.
Cute concept, but it felt a little forced and not as functional as I hoped. I’ll probably stay at another Bunkhouse property next time.
Such a beautiful hotel, from the rooms to the shared areas it’s gorgeous! Location is perfect and staff are all more than accommodating.
Nice outdoorsy escape in the heart of Austin. Great breakfast. Cozy rooms with cool decor. Elevator wasn’t working correctly which was annoying, but it happens.
The place is great, but the staff made the trip the best
Nice, modern and clean
The hotel is beautiful and stay was great. I wish I would have known kids were not allowed in the pool after 6pm ahead of time though. Hotel room was very clean, but the door to the bathroom was clear and frosted- it was not the cleanest. There was also damage to the nightstand and desk that in comparison to the rest of the grounds was a little disappointing. Otherwise a great stay.
The hotel lost our 6 night booking and had to downgrade our room significantly for the first three nights. Apparently this was a “technical error” due to new hotel ownership, but the hotel did not appear to take full responsibility and they hardly apologised. Generally disengaged, slow, uncommunicative and impersonal front desk who do not appear to have any regard for customer satisfaction. At every step we’ve had to follow up with them for things to be actioned - zero proactiveness or communication.
Also note that the rooms are noisy with poor lighting. Dominic the pool and bar attendant was amazing though, which was a blessing.
Hotel Magdalena is such a beautiful and comfortable hotel. My boyfriend and I are from Australia and had never been to Texas before and we didn’t realise the weather in the summer was so humid and tropical. This hotel feels like a tropical paradise. It’s covered in leafy green trees and bushes and the pool and all of the facilities just compliment it so beautifully. The location of the hotel is also perfect. So close to downtown (a 6 minute scooter or 20/30 minute walk) but in a great spot in South congress, which is a super cool area that feels a lot safer and has a better vibe (in my opinion) to Downtown. Could not recommend more.
We traveled for a wedding in Lockhart but chose to stay here because we liked the area better. We loved the vibe of the hotel and the proximity to everything. I will say that the king with patio room was smaller than we expected but we asked to upgrade/change our room at our expense and they were able to accommodate beyond our expectations. We ended up in one of the suites and it was really great for our family (two adults and a 3 year old). It was the type of room we would've stayed in before having a child as well - great for hanging with friends for the weekend. Highly recommend!
The hotel was designed very nicely, with attention to detail. The location was also excellent, showing a different side to Austin. The pool area was nice, though small and not suited for any more than a third of the guests.
- I paid for early check-in at 10 am, which they accepted but did not recognise. I then spent the next 5 hours waiting for my room. Only through continually asking if it was ready did I find out it was - no text or call.
- The rooms are clean enough, but markings on the wall and deep dirt are pretty clear. The room setup was also strange. Our shower flooded every time it was used. The coffee machine was just placed inside the wardrobe, without a place to put it in the room.
- The pool guy deserves a raise. One member of staff to serve roughly 40 people is insane.
- The restaurant only serves brunch with really poor service also. Particularly from a gentleman who made us move tables and then scoffed when I asked if they served anything other than lunch. I said I had seen people buy the pool eating other food, he said: "No, they only serve a couple of things."
- Overall, I was disappointed. There just is not anything about this place that justifies the price. It has potential but needs better management.
A distinctive hotel in a prime location for visiting beautiful Austin. The corner rooms with terraces are comfortable, though the limited interior lighting is a slight downside. Excellent cleanliness. Recommended.

Hotel Magdalena is a beautiful oasis in the midst of Austin with contemporary charm and is pet friendly. Note that it is a Hyatt hotel, and the telephone booking process is operated by AI. I called three different phone numbers before reaching what I believed to be a human the actual hotel. I was fooled by Jolene, a now commonly-known AI voice. “Jolene” mistakenly told me there was no block of rooms reserved for the wedding I was attending, so I missed an opportunity to be situated near friends.
Huge word of caution: if you are booked in a room ending in 02, immediately ask for a different room. These rooms are directly across the alley from an apartment complex whose trash and recycling is loudly picked up daily beginning at 5am. Luckily, we were relocated from 302 (which had a shower with no threshold and a VERY hard to operate bathroom door). Our new room was nicer, but neither room had a dresser, so I assume no rooms do.
If you are able to figure out how to book a room directly through the hotel itself, I highly recommend that rather than calling several numbers and speaking to robots that deplete our earth of resources and people of jobs.
Great experience at the pool and with restaurant and bar staff and service!
The hotel is ideally located right on South Congress, in a very walkable area with great options for shopping, restaurants, and bars. It also has a pool, which was a lifesaver during our visit — Austin was hot and humid, and being able to swim after a full day of sightseeing was wonderful. The pool is open from 9:00am to 10:00pm, which gives you plenty of time to use it.
The staff is friendly and always willing to help.
The day after we arrived, we checked out of the room around 11:00am expecting it to be cleaned by the time we returned. Unfortunately, when we got back at 6:00pm, the room was exactly as we had left it that morning. We ended up having to request housekeeping ourselves, and were careful to do so every subsequent night to avoid the same situation happening again.
This is the perfect hotel for a weekend away. I was on a mother daughter trip. Also amazing for a couple or girls weekend. The food is of an excellent standard. Would happily eat all meals there. The live music on the grass on Saturday afternoon was worth the room rate alone.
Loved it all.
