Like most hotels in Tulum, this one embraces a spiritual and nature-centered atmosphere — which is truly beautiful. There’s a great pool, a stunning yoga and meditation center, and the surroundings are incredibly peaceful. The restaurant is on the expensive side, and service was a bit slow at times.
Our cabin had A/C issues the first night, and it was uncomfortably hot — we couldn’t sleep. Thankfully, the staff moved us to a different cabin the next day, and everything went smoothly after that.
The hotel is located inside a national park, and at first, I was a bit upset because we had to pay an entrance fee I wasn’t aware of. But that was totally on me. Once we explored the area, we realized the fee was actually worth it — we had access to free transportation within the park and got to enjoy beautiful landscapes and plenty of wildlife.
Service was excellent
I was absolutely overwhelmed with this resort. It was more than I could ever have imagined. The whole property was so clean and environmentally friendly. The vibe was so peaceful and I met so many wonderful people, staff and guests. They offer so many activities and special services (i.e. the temezcal ritual, massage, yoga, etc). The food was excellent! The location was absolutely goregous. I am already planning my trip back to Glamp Ikal next year!
Had an amazing time at this unique, very tranquil resort. The food and drinks are double normal prices but we found other options in town. The beach, overall vibe, and daily yoga in the stunning ocean-view shala made it all worth it. The beds were very comfortable and the shared washrooms / showers were good - lots of hot water. I rented a bike from Ikal and rode to Gran Cenote which took about 30 minutes, 20 on a modern path and 10 on road side. Not for beginners. You can walk to ruins from Ikal. Highly recommend. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Great time great beach.
Alan was super friendly and explained everything to us, facility is amazing if you want to disconnect for a couple of days, vibes were great! Will definitely come back
The staff were really great. Jorge (the bellhop) was really friendly and helpful. Daniel was my driver and I highly recommend that you travel with him. I DOMT LIKE THAT THIS HOTEL DOESNT HAVE COMPLIMENTARY AIRPORT TRANSFER ESPECIALLY SINCE you got to pay for literally everything else. The food was ok. It was Chevy (not as authentic as I would like) big down side was the shared bathrooms and shower. Another downside was that the air conditioner didn’t completely cool down the tent. But overall I loved the stay and had a great time. Would definitely do it again.
Directions were confusing, roads on the phone did not match same name. You want to go down rt 15 but really no sign saying rt 15 , right at the start of tulum main strip on 307. Go down to were it makes a sharp turn to the rt. At that point there is a rd that one may think its just to the hotel depending on if you there durning day or night. That is the road you take in. Its is almost a 105 degree turn to the left. We were not able to find it first night and had people giving us all sorts of directions. Would try to get there in day light. Kindof disappers at night if you dont know what your looking for and dont know if your on the right road.
The tent i rent is old and not clean.
GlamIKAL is located within a natural forest preserve and has gorgeous white sand beaches. The unit I stayed in was clean and nice and very close to the beach. Housekeeping was very hit or miss and you could hear the neighbors even lightly talking so I would recommend brining headphones and an eye mask.
The pros: The meditation/yoga classes they are offer were great. If you are staying at GlampIKAL you receive one 200 peso class for free. The classes range from 200 to 350 pesos. They also offer a wide range of on campus and off campus healing modalities. The best thing I did on my trip was the Healing Sound Therapy at a Private Cenote in the jungle with Diego. Couldn't recommend it enough!
The cons: The restaurant at IKAL is by far the worst restaurant I've been to in my life. I waited an hour and 15 minutes for overnight oats that never came after speaking to 6 people which made me miss my meditation class on winter solstice. I stayed for 7 days and on all but one occasion I had major issues at the restaurant. Every person I talked to at GlampIKAL said the same thing and most of the issues were when there were only a few people even eating at the restaurant. The restaurant is also wildly expensive and the food is average at best. The problem is that other than Matcha Mama (which is good but has limited offerings and were frequently out of items) there isn't any other food available at the hotel which made is very difficult when meals would take 1-1.5 hours when you order
The grounds of the hotel smelled rotten, like poorly draining sewage. The glamping tents are completely covered in mold.
The property is on a beautiful location of Tulum Beach, we really enjoyed the Yoga Class and beautiful beach nice and clean, but the property glamping was horrible the tent was dirty and broken they upgraded us to a better tent but the AC was not working and the bed had bedbugs
First, they gave us terrible directions to get there and there is no visible sign at the property. We were lost for 2 hours and tried calling a few times and when we stopped somewhere with wifi and nobody answered. The power went out a couple of times the second night we were in leaving us in a hot tent with no AC or lights. I requested a reserved bed area by the beach. One was not reserved for us as they said. When I went to check out, there were several charges for tips on my bill. About $1000 pesos worth. These were added on my food bills by underlining a gratuity amount when you sign. I didn't underline any amount so I guess someone there did. The property was clean and beautiful, but the customer service was lacking a lot.
Overall a beautiful property by the beach and a pleasant experience which turned horrible on the day of check out when I was threatened by their security guard for using one of their carts to help carry my luggage to the reception. You need carts as there are no paved paths from the reception to your cottage or tent. I was told by the receptionist that someone from the staff would come with a cart and help with my luggage, but no one came so instead I myself got a cart and pushed it to the reception as I didn't want get late for my bus. It was hard to understand why an employee of the hotel, especially a security guard would be aggressive towards a guest for using something as simple as a cart.
The food portions are small for the price you pay at the restaurant, i would consider trying some of the other options nearby.
The AC wasn't much help during the peak of day.
My experience at Camp Ikal was superb, it is a hidden oasis with Tulum. I stayed in an oceanfront tent for a total of 8 nights & as someone who not used to glamping, it was superb. The tent is spacious with an AC unit & necessities. There are shared bathrooms & showers which were always clean & tidy-this was my biggest apprehension going in to it. It is a beautiful property & the best part was the attention from the team on-property & their hospitality. Any requests or concerns were taken care of immediately. Be prepared to not wear shoes or embrace your beachy goddess hair-totally worth not having a hair dryer. Cannot wait to return!
I want to publicly thank Camilla, Maru, and Lucy for their outstanding work and customer service.
The staff here is absolutely wonderful and they really made my trip so much better.
This place is very eco friendly, beautiful, unique, and the location and property are breathtaking.
My room was excellent. The bed was VERY comfortable, my room was gorgeous, really awesome, and I have absolutely zero complaints.
The location is spectacular. The bathrooms were very clean as was the whole property. There are a lot of hard workers there!
Everything was so nice and clean and I’m a nature lover and the grounds of the property really impressed me.
I felt safe, secure, well cared for, and so happy.
The staff was very friendly, attentive, and absolutely pleasant.
Again, a special thanks to Camilla, Maru, and Lucy.
It was such a unique and beautiful visit and I highly recommend it.
The only somewhat negative thing I have to say (which is not the fault of the property) is the roads leading to the property are pitch black at night. So I wouldn’t recommend arriving after dark unless you have a light source (which I didn’t have…my fault) But the property itself is nicely lit.
I was so sad to leave
Great vibe, great atmosphere, great service, great place.
I absolutely loved it
More than what I expected!! Great cozy tents right by the beach. The whole property is nested in the national park and very close to nature. The beach is few steps away. Also, their wellness activities were amazing. Definitely staying here again
BE AWARE SOLO TRAVELLERS.
Although the beach and the workshops were nice, the place it self is not safe.
Someone tried to get into my tent at 3am (in a very sneaky way) so, not an accident. it was very scary especially as a women on her own. I screamed and the person paused for a while outside my tent and then decided to leave thank god.
The management was very sorry and offered a full refund as I was very shaken and it totally ruined my stay.
Turns out it was a fake apology because I didn’t receive it and I’m unable to get any responses.
The place is cool but… the tent is accessible to anyone at any time, it also doesn’t have a sea view although it says that online. You’re far from the bathrooms so good luck going at night time.
It wasn’t the best move as a solo traveller to book this place.
Make sure you book places with soliders at hotels, I have noticed safety is a very big issue here.
The staff at Casa Nawal are very friendly and chatty and give fantastic food recommendations. We stayed in the luxury tent with partial ocean view and the tent was beautifully decorated, had a comfortable bed and had a fan and AC to keep us cool. Despite paying extra for a partial ocean view, we could not even see a tiny bit of the ocean from our room or from the the steps to our room- extremely misleading. I spoke to the team about this but they couldn’t put us in a different room as they were full - but I don’t understand why we were put in a garden view room in the first place when we paid extra to see the ocean. This did spoil our holiday, otherwise the stay at Casa Nawal was nice, especially the on-site cafe has the most delicious breakfasts. Avoid room 14 if you paid for the partial ocean view - you have a view of the toilets and garden, no ocean.
