The best hotel on Chongqing. Buffet dinner was exceptional. Rooms were excellent. Fantastic View. Black out automatic blinds gave a a dark room for good sleeping.
The hotel building itself is impressive and the location inside Raffles City offers beautiful views of the river and Chongqing skyline. I booked a King Classic River View room, and the view from the high floor was genuinely spectacular. The skyline and river view are stunning, and the room itself was comfortable and well maintained.
We also spent several hours at the live music bar, where two performers were singing popular songs throughout the evening. The atmosphere there was genuinely enjoyable and it was one of the highlights of the stay.
Unfortunately, despite the impressive building and good facilities, the service throughout the stay was extremely disappointing and well below the standard expected from a hotel of this level.
When I arrived around noon there was a line at reception. A staff member approached me, asked what I needed, and when I explained I was checking in he told me politely to sit down and wait and that he would come get me when it was my turn. At first this felt like a premium service gesture. However after waiting over 20 minutes, the staff member never returned while several other guests were served and left. Eventually I had to return to the desk myself to complete the check-in, which left the impression that I had simply been pushed aside and forgotten.
Later when walking toward the viewing deck area, a staff member stopped me rather abruptly and asked, “Sorry, are you staying at the hotel?” While I understand that hotels sometimes verify this, the tone felt unnecessarily cold and unwelcoming.
The most disappointing incident happened later that night. After spending several hours at the hotel’s live music bar and spending over 2000 RMB, my partner and I decided to go to the hotel’s other bar for one final drink before going to sleep.
When we arrived, the bar was almost empty. A staff member whose name was later confirmed by reception as May approached us. Throughout the interaction she spoke only to my partner in Chinese and barely acknowledged me. She led us outside and told us that we would need to spend 1000 RMB minimum to sit there. Since we had already spent a significant amount earlier in the evening, we simply decided to leave and go back to our room.
Before going to sleep I went to reception to ask a simple question: why a hotel guest who had already spent thousands of RMB at one bar would need to spend another 1000 RMB minimum just to sit in another bar in the same hotel.
The receptionist initially seemed confused and called the bar staff member to clarify.
The position, the shua bar, the staff who were all lovely.
Considering Chongqing is becoming such a popular destination for foreigners it might be good if the staff could speak some English rather than use those annoying translators all the time. Most Europeans can speak some English which makes it a fairly universal language outside China.

Nothing
