The doors slam shut when they close which wakes up the next door. I know that this is a fire safety feature but I'm sure that they can be made quieter.
Läget och frukosten. Smidigt med sen incheckning.
På grund av det soliga och varma vädret var ett av våra rum som en bastu. Trots fläkt var rummet alldeles för varmt och det var svårt att sova under natten.
Spacious and clean.

This isn’t a 4 star hotel. Not for facilities or service. It’s really a pub with some poor quality and dated rooms. The hotel is misrepresented in the photos and website and overpriced.
Our room was crammed (not charming), the sofa bed for our son was bumpy and hard. The hotel is on a very noisy road so you can’t open the windows. There’s no air conditioning and rooms are unventilated and unbearably hot, with small fans that provide no respite. The walls and roof provide no insulation in the summer. An outside temperature of about 28 degrees felt like 35 inside, we had very little sleep.
Hotel manager and breakfast manager were very professional and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble.
Breakfast was lovely and beautiful produce.
No pillow protectors, no mattress protector, no duvet (just a sheet?), cups are insufficient for the coffee machine, wardrobe door knob missing so was just a sharp screw, shower gel and shampoo canisters empty, steps upstairs to the room are dangerous and tread had come off sitting waiting to be fixed causing a trip hazard, work van on the car park with lads smoking cannabis and drinking lager, asked the barmaid for specials and to know the steak cuts and she just gave us a menu.
Restaurant food was nice but way over priced (£20 for a burger and fries/£14 prawn cocktail).
Location, price, food, staff
Cleanliness,
This is a quality run traditional old pub with beautiful interiors in both the dinning areas and the rooms. Just a short drive out of Reading and well worth the effort to get out of the city.
Only small issue is proximity to the road, which on the East side rooms can get a tiny bit noisy. In summer with windows open it’s more noticeable. This is not prohibitively loud so it’s still easy to get a good nights sleep.
Good location, and friendly staff.
Good choice of breakfast.
It was a warm day and although a fan was put into our room, the room was stifling.
Opening the windows did not help as there was some kind of industrial fan making a noise. Do not know if it came from the kitchen.
Excellent menu,cooked and presented well.
Beautiful setting, lovely venue for a special occasion, tables were set out beautifully.
We had booked in advance for a surprise 25th wedding anniversary meal. There were 16 of us in total, and we had to choose our meals and pay a £10 deposit well over a week before we were due. This wasn't a problem, however when it came to the day of our meals we were told that some were no longer available and we had to choose a different ones?
The rooms were lovely, but no air con and it was stifling. 1 bottle of luke warm water, tiny cups and fancy teas & espresso coffees, it would have been nice to have a selection & an instant coffee.
Sounds picky but it was pricey.
Good quality property with a lot of nice little touches which you only expect in expensive places, bath robes and good towels for example
