I parked in the centre of Buxton and walked to the crescent. There was only me there so I got a one to one with the volunteer. She was great, very knowledgeable. There’s lots of info in the rooms. I found the visitors section really interesting. At the end you go across to the visitors centre and get a bottle of buxton water. Can recommend.
Nice hotel, stayed in room 113, not much outlook through the window. Clean and comfortable but it's above the public washrooms and we heard the dryers constantly so not much sleep. The bedside telephone starting a reboot at 7.30 with lights flashing and ringing. Yes we would stay again but not in this room, lucky for us we were only staying one night for a relaxing time but if needed prior to work I think you maybe tired all day. Spa nice, needs a little TLC in certain areas. I would not say it's a five star hotel.
Not a great start. We couldn't find our room as it was room 213 and was located in a stairwell and not clearly sign posted. Upon finding the room the keys had not been activated to allow entry and therefore we had to make a trip back down to reception to have this resolved. Unfortunately this room was not only in a stairwell but it was next to a lift which we could hear throughout the night. The footwear available for use in the spa facilities also leaves a lot to be desired. They were used and therefore very unhygienic. The concierge car park arrangements makes an overnight stay very expensive. During check-out we weren't asked if we had enjoyed our stay and if everything had been ok for us. I wonder why!
We have visited this hotel a number of times and it has always been 5 *. On a recent visit it fell short of this level with simple customer requests proving problematic. However with new management I'm sure the hotel will return to 5 *. Looking forward to the next visit.
Inept and insufficient reception staff meant it took 20 minutes to check in. Room was relatively small given the price and had machinery outside making a noise all night long. Radio did not work properly. It took 20 minutes and three requests to get tea & coffee at breakfast. The spa is shining light of this hotel and it remains good, but there is evidence maintenance budgets have been cut - tiles fallen off in the steam room is not a good look. And to add symmetry it took 20 minutes to get our car when we wanted to leave (£30 for one day's concierge parking!). Overall very poor value.
Everything was fantastic, incredible spa facilities and a great location! The only downside would be it was a bit on the pricey side!
Another exceptional visit to Buxton Crescent. A fantastic place to stay for total relaxation. Reception staff are great, there was a small issue with my booking but this was resolved quickly and with professionalism. Room was amazing, great view of the gardens opposite. Spa itself is large with multiple pools, not too busy which is perfect. I also had a hot stone massage which was incredible!
Excellent service lovely spa. Doesn't include salt room. Attic room was lovely. Would stay again. Would recommend. Spa really different to most others.
We love this hotel, the town and the spa. This is our 2nd visit and it was just as lovely as the first visit.
Staff were all friendly warm and attentive, although there did always seem to be an excessive amount of staff on at all times. I think I counted 8 members of staff at breakfast and service was still a bit disjointed, as they all came round to do their own jobs rather than 1 person looking after a few tables. Breakfast choice and quality were amazing but could improve the black pudding.
We used the valet parking service again which was great.
I disappointingly heard that champneys are taking over this hotel and spa and I do hope they don’t ruin it :(
A whole bunch of meh
Had a lovely walk over a bunch of floorboards being ripped up by workmen in the spa pool area whilst walking back to the room.. thank God I was in a robe. (“Youre alright mate just step over that..”)
Golem like creature working/frequenting the spa, trying to look busy whilst attempting to chat up female members of staff. But will be damned if you stay a second too long in the spa, bless him.
A rain cloud of stuffy sarcastic misery working in the spa reception, seems to have forgotten how to chat politely to customers and/or say “thank you”
Lots of other staff who seemingly have no idea what theyre doing, are terrified a customer will speak to them, and worst of all, dont know how to make coffee… but will attempt to make coffee… tremendously sad.
Other than that, it was lovely(!), albeit a tad expensive for endless weird service. Building is pretty and the Christmas stuff inside looks darn good.
We stayed overnight for a theatre trip. Hotel is beautiful, along with the rooms. One of the most comfortable beds I’ve slept in. We arrived late Friday afternoon in time for a glass of Prosecco at check in which was a great. Staff are friendly and helpful. Spa is great. Bar is great, food is great. Absolutely nothing to dislike about this hotel.
We recently stayed at the Buxton Crescent Hotel and were left extremely disappointed. I booked a Crescent Room expecting a luxury experience, but what I got was far from five-star standards.
Naively as we booked a crescent room, I thought we’d have a nice view, but our room was situated at the back of the building (I think you’d have to book a superior room for a nice view, which is fair enough but wish we knew this). Worst part was that we were very close to the spa and outdoor pool, which was quite noisy. On the first morning we were woken up by the sound of recycling bins being emptied for the bars outside, not exactly the peaceful stay I’d hoped for. When I complained and asked to be moved, I was told no other rooms were available and offered no alternatives. Staff at reception were short and unfriendly at this point, despite us being polite about it.
We were also visiting for a special birthday trip, and had told reception this prior to visiting. We’re told the room would be decorated with macaroons left out - absolutely nothing in the room on check in which was disappointing.
The room itself was in a poor state, quite a lot of black mould in the bathroom, noticeable dust throughout, marks all over the walls, and no proper coffee machine - just instant coffee and a kettle. Definitely not what I’d expect for the price or rating. The rooms felt run-down and neglected, which is shocking given the reputation of this hotel.
The spa was just okay – we had to change in our room due to lack of facilities, and while the outdoor pool was the highlight, the indoor spa areas were dirty with mould visible in some of the pools. The relaxation beds also looked like they hadn’t been cleaned properly, and didn’t really want to relax there.
Breakfast was mediocre on the first day, but the second morning was a disaster. The hot water system was broken, so we couldn’t get tea or coffee. Even after changing our order and asking three times, nothing ever arrived. The staff seemed new and untrained – polite and friendly but completely chaotic and unprepared.
The reception staff really let the hotel down. They were especially disappointing: no warmth, no professionalism, didn’t ask how the stay was when checking out, and didn’t even offer help with bags or even offer to hold the door whilst we struggled with our bags. For a five-star hotel, this is unacceptable.
Overall, this was a below-average experience. I wouldn’t usually leave a bad review, instead choosing to see the positive in places but I really think this place was a let down, more like a bad four-star hotel at best (actually the four-star hotel that we stayed in the night before was far, far superior).
I won’t be returning and can’t recommend it.
Fabulous afternoon tea at the Buxton Crescent served by the wonderful Anne whose service was very attentive and efficient. She was very friendly with great attention to detail and nothing was too much trouble.
A very mixed review. Hotel was lovely and the food was nice but the spa experience was very poor. We booked treatments, with the intention of having lunch before spending the afternoon in using the spa facilities. My friend had travelled up from Essex as I had spoken so highly from my previous visits. We were told we could sit in the spa cafe for lunch but once we had finished our treatments we were told we had to get dressed and find somewhere else to eat as there had been walk ins. Which then resulted in ruined clothes due to the oil used. This is not a cheap experience but the service in the spa is exceedingly poor and started a shared birthday weekend off to an incredibly poor start.
The best Hotel and Spar I have ever visited!
The Hotel staff were an absolute pleasure. Nothing was too much trouble. Food was fantastic. The building was amazing. Extremely clean. First class on all fronts. Thank you to all the staff and well done. We will be back for sure.
The room was so comfortable and looked amazing. We enjoyed a relaxing morning in the spa. The roof top pool was a highlight. Staff were friendly and very helpful. The breakfast was very nice.
We stayed for one night, selected for the Spa facilities. Loved everything about this hotel.
Reception staff were warm and welcoming, with a glass of Prosecco on arrival and our bags whisked up to our room.
The hotel is in a beautiful old building and the decor reflects that.
Our room was at the ‘back’, however it was warm and spacious, the high ceilings are a personal favourite. The room was spotless. The bed very comfortable and the linen and towels a good quality. With both a bath and large walk-in shower, the bathroom was clean and again spacious.
The breakfast was delicious, served on heated plates which was a nice touch. The young staff couldn’t do enough to make our breakfast comfortable.
The spa was fabulous. It was clean and had architectural features (loved the warm relax, heated beds!). The rooftop pool was not that busy, given it was a full hotel and a Saturday night.
Thoroughly enjoy and will return.
Amazing experience at the hotel. Beautiful bedroom, one of the best nights sleep I’ve had, the bed was so comfy. Spa facilities are so nice, lots of different experiences with rooftop pool.
Really enjoyed the bar and public areas, a hotel that has charm and character and feels in every way a very special place.
Excellent stay, good value for money, centrally placed, easy parking nearby, very comfortable room, quality bedding and stylish decor, fabulous spa facilities, and a great breakfast !
We have been a few times this year to this hotel. The quality and cleanliness of the rooms are a credit to the Management Team. The Breakfast,Lunch, Dinner and Afternoon tea choice of Menu’s have never disappointed us. A Bonus when all the staff are welcoming and friendly. Even bigger Bonus when on arrival we were treated to a glass of champagne. I have been to a few Spa’s up and down the country but the Crescent Spa is the most luxurious and well efficiently run. I assume this is also down to the management. I do hope the hotel will always be the same as we would recommend it to both Family and Friends. We will certainly go again.
