My wife and I were headed to our AirBnB when we were contacted by the host about issues with the property we reserved for our stay-cation. I did a search on Google and found the Hotel San Jose. Pricing provided by Google was a little high. Then, I searched on TripAdvisor and found pricing for less than half of what I found on Google! I immediately booked a reservation on TripAdvisor. The process was easy and we were able to check in within an hour of booking!
Lovely old motor court with Americana traveling history. Clean and spacious with a good bed. Gracious personnel were accommodating at every turn. Perfect locale for visiting Austin. We felt safe the entire time. Can brag about the house coffee on offer in the mornings. We will be returning next time we are in the area and recommend it wholeheartedly.
You can’t beat this location! That was one of the main factors for booking. Was also excited for the onsite pool and bar. Upon arrival and throughout the stay the staff was 10/10 - so nice and so helpful. Once in the room I was disappointed though. The room was rather bare with cracked and poor plastering in the bathroom. A shower with a very slow drain and the sheets were starchy and rough. The robes were similar feeling, but also stained and torn. We were located by housekeeping so the laundry and large industrial rolling baskets were always in front of the room. Luckily the window view was tranquil. The pool was a let down by how small it was and while I know it’s uncontrollable in the Texas heat, the water was always hot and it felt like a hot tub and not a refreshing pool. The bar onsite and the taco place next door was so great though! I wouldn’t stay again, but if you just need a place to hang your head that’s located by all the fun, this is the place.
I've been to Austin quite a bit for SXSW and always wanted to stay here. my friend and I decided to get out of the DC area for July 4 weekend to spend it with Willie Nelson in Austin. All of it was such a great decision. San Jose was the best from start to finish. Room was great. They added a rollaway bed for my friend so we could share the room. We had an outdoor patio which was a total delight. It's so wonderfully located, with a great music venue across the street, plus music a block up on the right. Everything was just right.
Always an amazing experience at the hotel San Jose! Staff are next level and make this place such a gem. Rooms and courtyard are perfect to unwind after an evening out or prep for an evening of great live music on S. Congress.
Love the San Jose, it's funky, it's different, lots of events happening when we come, the place gets busy. This trip there was a Jazz group playing, they were fantastic. Favorite thing about the San Jose, the people who work there and are every ready to assist.
This hotel is clean, comfortable, unique and adorable! The pool and seating area was cute and comfortable. The drinks and food were great. The staff were very friendly and extremely helpful.
Parking fees not disclosed. Mosquitoes in the room.
Location and overall charm
Laundry bins were staged outside our room. Shower inside slippery tub.
First, their location is outstanding. Right in the mix of all that SOCO has to offer. The hotel is nestled in an absolutely beautiful garden type settings. Loved that but that is where the love ended. The room was completely underwhelming. Check out the pictures I’m adding. Total buzz kill. For the price, Other Austin hotels offer way better. Nuff said.
The San Jose is my go-to for a quiet, solo trip. I enter a zen state as soon as I walk up the steps to the property. The hotel grounds are gorgeous and well kept, the grackles are delightful, and access to all that South Congress has to offer is the cherry on top. Lovely, knowledgable and fun staff.
The motel is a quiet oasis even though it’s only steps from Congress. The staff was friendly and helpful, especially helping out during a torrential downpour.
Food and drinks were tasty and efficiently delivered.
My room was comfortable and clean with a cool vibe.
Parking.
Terrible stay. The refrigerator in our room made a loud, mechanical noise for about 20min at least 3-4 times through the night. It sounded like a lawn mower in our room, constantly waking us up, so we basically couldn’t sleep the whole night. It was an extremely unpleasant time and I would’ve switched hotels immediately if we were staying for longer than one night in Austin. As soon as I walked up to reception and said my room number, before I even voiced my complaint, the receptionist said “oh the loud refrigerator?” So clearly it’s a known issue, a common complaint that they don’t care to fix. It was 5am and he said just call in the morning and work something out with them.
Also if your room is near the street you will hear loud noise playing late into the night — it was a Monday night when I stayed. Our bathroom windows face the parking lot and although they’re frosted, every car that parks and leaves shines headlights into the space. No curtains on any of the windows. The blinds facing the public courtyard/walkway do not feel private. I’ve stayed at cheap motels that at least provide curtains.
The bathroom is bare bones. No water pressure and the shower temperature is either extremely hot or cold, no in between.
Clean & private
Hip place with a relaxed vibe. Interesting people congregate at the San Jose. Cool HVAC and great staff. Within walking distance of many venues and restaurants…
