The food at the Magnolia was excellent. So is the band. They were very good and included all kinds of instruments. Played great songs. And the food was excellent as I mentioned above. Would highly recommend.
Would not recommend this to anyone. The staircase (no elevator) is far too steep and narrow to be considered safe. Our room was very dirty with chipping paint and cobwebs all over the ceiling. Walls very thin, we could hear the family next to us crystal clear. And the very loud bar just below our room made for sleeping impossible.

Shops and restaurants were in walking distance! Also the beach! There wasn't a kitchen in our room or my friends room. It was a nice historic hotel and a fair price. Our only complaint was not knowing there was two booked weddings during our stay. Which limited our access to the restaurant and bar in the hotel. So we learned a lesson about CapeMay, September is wedding season there. Not the hotels fault, but we will ask next time if they are having big events.
I enjoys my stay at a historic hotel. Great food, live music at the King Edward bar on site.Close to beaches, restaurants, & shops.
Wonderful stay, the room was super clean! The chalfonte is right within walking distance of everything in Cape May. Affordable rooms and great location!
I stay at the Chalfonte Hotel every year for the Firemen’s Convention and now it seems more firemen are staying at the hotel I noticed after my stay.
My room was on the top floor of the hotel way in the back where I could not hear the wedding or entertainment below. It was so quiet and relaxing on my original three day stay I decided to extend it another night and my last day slept in and enjoyed breakfast on the porch of the Magnolia Room restaurant.
There is something about the classic charm of this hotel that I enjoy. I attended the Ramble on the Thursday night that I arrived where the crowds have doubled in size over the years.
I also enjoy dining in the Magnolia Room but they need to jazz up the menu a bit since Lucille retired. It might be nice to change some things around.
Still I was able relax and enjoy my stay and even walk on the beach a few blocks away.
We enjoyed the large amount of common area seating including a lovely wrap around porch. There was a dearth of horizontal surfaces in the room.
Clean and friendly
air conditioning as basic amenity. no TV/mini fridge/microwave in rooms. convenient to the mall and the beach but no direct view. while we enjoyed the historic hotel overall, was not quite a fan of all the stairs to the rooms and lack of dependable nearby (free) parking, especially with all the scheduled events/weddings at the hotel. On a positive
note, dinner at the magnolia room restaurant was amazing. fried chicken was most definitely worth the hype.
Convivial atmosphere- takes you back to another era
Very historic property! Excellent location great breakfast! Great staff!
Bad hotel in a great area. Arrived to find sand all over floors (hadn't been vacuumed), doors that wouldn't close, and loud machine(s) in room above whirring all night long. Definitely would NOT recommend.
There was no TV or hair dryer, which was probably stated in the description so it’s my fault for not realizing. Otherwise it was a very great stay! Super clean rooms and close to the beach and Washington Street Mall!
Beautiful historical hotel with excellent accommodations and staff. Unfortunately area parking is limited, no TVs and shared bathrooms for some units. Additionally no elevator. Breakfast is served for a fee and live music on most days. Beautiful lounges, dining room and porches. Excellent place.
Wonderful staff
Very clean
Not so easy to find parking spot
Room in third floor not mentioned
Very small room for 3 adults
Very thin walls, rug in room was covered in sand, ceiling fan was on with no way to turn it off the whole trip. Could hear the room next to us being intimate every night and they were not loud
The biscuits were hard and savory. I was expecting soft and buttery. The Coleslaw was more like a heap of cabbage with a hint of dressing. The chicken was good but did not make up for the disappointing sides. With guests at only one other table this should have been my clue to bypass this restaurant.
We chose a room based on a photo during the reservation but the room turned out to have a different configuration. The room was comfortable. Good a/c. We had to evacuate one night at10:50pm due to fire alarm but fire dept personnel let us back in a half hour or so later. Self serve water and coffee are available downstairs everyday. The restaurant is closed on Tuesdays. Hotel is a few blocks from the beach, restaurants and the Washington st mall, so good location if you don’t mind walking a little.
Room was clean and quiet. Located close to the beach and town!
