Beautiful hotel in a great location of Kyoto
Pros:

Great location with easy access to everything and h close to several subway stations. Very comfortable, spacious rooms with modern decor

Cons:

There’s no concierge services and most of the staff speaks very little English. Breakfast was average and had very few western options.

Great central location, solid facilities, delightful breakfast and views
Pros:

The location and breakfast were worth the money in itself!! Perfect central location. The breakfast with that view was heaven every morning.

The Gate is a confortable hotel with a great location to see Kyoto
Pros:

The gate is a great location easy walks to train stations and different popular attractions. The room was well appointed and comfortable, albeit very small. I expected the size so no problem. The lounge and fire pit area in the evening was a great feature.

Cons:

I felt that it was a bit more self serve then I was expecting. Very little contact with staff. There was a lot of noise, this was a very busy location with a lot of action, but with that an incredible amount of noise, yelling, and late night shenanigans heard clearly.

Excellent!
Pros:

Location was amazing!! Right by Pontocho Alley, minutes from Gion district, walking distance to Kiyomizu-dera and the Yasaka Pagoda. So many great restaurants in this area.

Beds comfy, slept well. Very kind and friendly staff!

They didn't accept debit card at checkin to pay for my stay, although it was possible to use it through Booking.com to reserve the hotel.
Clerk at the reception desk told me that sometimes information from hotel and those on booking don't match.
I haven't found any information that hotel doesn't accept debit cards (only credit cards).
This was a huge flaw and could represent a major problem for potential travelers. Be sure to bring reserve card to this hotel.

Perfect hotel in the heart of Kyoto.
Pros:

Perfect location for exploring Kyoto. We loved everything about the hotel, room was quiet and comfortable, staff were incredibly welcoming and so professional. Breakfast offered plenty of buffet options and dinner in the restaurant was excellent. We also loved the peaceful lounge offering complimentary drinks and light snacks.

Cons:

We liked it all.
