Montage Healdsburg

An absolutely gorgeous hotel. We stayed in a suite with a full wall of windows looking into the treetops. We watched birds and deer from our fire pit on the room's balcony. The landscaping and gardens throughout the property are on point.

The room itself is very stylish and large. It was spacious enough for a pullout couch for our kid, without feeling cramped. Even with the couch pulled out there was a table, lounge chair, and the outdoor sofas on the balcony.

The only downside is that it is very loud at night on weekends from weddings. We weren't even that close to the wedding and it was still hard to fall asleep from the music. My son tossed and turned, and I absolutely couldn't fall asleep. I think I would only come back mid-week or if I could get a cabin even further away from the main resort house (although then it would be an even longer uphill walk).

A beautiful resort but our stay spoiled by poor service by the front desk team. After providing card for incidentals I noticed two charges on my card the first morning. I questioned the front desk who said it was an error due to the card my travel company had not processed so they charged us instead without pre-approval.
We contacted the travel company who spoke to the hotel, both assured us this was resolved. At checkout we once again got reassurance the refund would happen & no further charges. The next day we had a third charge for valet parking then a fourth charge for the entire hotel stay. Over $2,000 dollars taken without our consent, no apology & now we are talking to the travel company to try to get a refund.

Our stay at Montage Healdsburg was absolutely unforgettable. This was our first stay at a Montage property and we will without a doubt be staying at more.

From the moment we arrived, the service was warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. The receptionist changed our room at our first request as I was expecting an outdoor shower and our original room did not have one! The property itself is stunning — peaceful, beautifully designed, and perfectly integrated into the natural surroundings within the vines.

The rooms were spacious, luxurious, and incredibly comfortable, especially the outdoor shower and the balcony with a fireplace! We loved the breathtaking vineyard views, the adults only pool, relaxing atmosphere, and exceptional amenities throughout the resort.

The bar service in the lobby was outstanding, breakfasts were delicious and the staff consistently went above and beyond to make our stay feel special. Whether it was relaxing by the pool (heated) enjoying the spa-steam room was lovely, or simply taking in the scenery, hiking on property..every moment felt like a true escape.

Montage Healdsburg exceeded our expectations in every way, and we’re already looking forward to coming back. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a luxury wine country getaway.

Lovely property and quick family weekend away that felt like it was farther than from SF than it was. The staff are friendly and attentive. Highly recommend!

Beautiful location (even in winter) and well appointed rooms, though be aware that many of the guest rooms are far from the lobby / restaurant building and pool / fitness facilities and require a cart shuttle or a long walk.

The actual service level was inconsistent as many other reviewers have noted. It was either 5-star or 3-star over my three night stay, and mostly 3-star when a conference or other special event was occurring. If you are looking for a 5-star experience, before you even book your room, consider avoiding special event days by double-checking with the hotel itself and also making advance reservations at Hazel Hill restaurant.

Without any prior notice to hotel guests at booking or check-in, nor signage being placed anywhere, Hazel Hill restaurant was closed to hotel guests at dinnertime due to a private event. Without knowing what was going on, confused guests wandered into the restaurant that couldn't serve them. The awkward workaround was for Hazel Hill staff to verbally divert guests to the lobby bar for a more limited menu (either the bar menu or in-room dining menu). However, the lobby seating is quite limited and primarily being hunched over low coffee tables, and the outside tables weren't a practical option in cold weather. If you had booked a room expecting dinner at Hazel Hill, you would have been badly disappointed.

The next morning for breakfast, Hazel Hill restaurant was again closed without warning or signage to "set up" for a private event, so hotel guests were crammed into the lobby to make due. This time, at least some proper tables had been moved in from the restaurant itself, but not enough.

The wait staff were professional and apologetic about both situations, but the Front Desk staff seemed indifferent to what was going on and just stared at their computer monitors or phones. That was a massive missed service opportunity, and it bothered me more than the restaurant being closed. Other guests also seemed flustered.

In general, most of the other hotel staff were consistently excellent throughout the stay. The Front Desk ranged from fantastic to what is noted above.

The Montage is an absolutely gorgeous property and the staff could not have been more accommodating. The Concierge that created our vineyard tours was exceptional

It's a nice facility, but the service is terrible and the staff don't smile. I was very disappointed with the service. I don't recommend it. For that price, go somewhere else.

We had stayed at the Montage 2 years ago and had a wonderful time. Service and rooms were impeccable. We decided to return this year and bring along some friends. We bragged on the place.

Our nightmare began the first evening late when we turned on the shower. No hot water so we took cold showers. Same when we awoke so we reported and decided to take a hike of the property. They gave us a map and off we went only to chastised by a construction Manager that we shouldn't be there and that they had told the Montage that several times. When we returned the Manager apologized and said he told his people not to give out the map. Obviously they all hadn't got the message.

Later that evening we used the hotels car service which is very nice. We called to get picked up. We sat there for 30 minutes and no one came. Called back and some dropped the ball. Get back to the room still no hot water after they said it was fixed. Next morning still no hot water. Finally got hot water that night. We had breakfast and when they took us back to our rooms (have to use their golf cart service) I asked to be picked up at 9 am and our car brought up for we had appointments in Napa. Again no one came. Had to call at 9:15 and the car wasn't there. We were late to our first appointment.

Our vacation was ruined by now. The Montage did comp 1 night and some Spa treatments. We were disappointed for our friends and that our vacation was so unpleasant . It really is a nice place and the people are very nice. Attention to detail for a 5 Star hotel is just not there. Hope they get it fixed.

wine buying trip. first visit to Montage Healsdburg and was it was fabulous. Slow time of year, so it was very quiet, which I liked. Service from all staff was top-notch. Will definitely return.

The location is absolutely beautiful. 1.5 hours from SFO, easy to get to via uber. The rooms were immaculate, amazing sheets and plush bedding. Outdoor firepit for my balcony was wonderful, sitting there outside in the morning to view the sunrise with the in-room coffee was so memorable. Would absolutely come back again during warmer weather to try the outdoor shower! Onsite food was overall great, but could use some more diversity. Luckily downtown Healdsburg has some incredible food options, only a quick 7 drive away.
Def recommend for a little getaway! We stumbled upon the Xmas tree lighting as well and the entire town seemed to come through - felt like a neighborhood gathering space. The GM was there saying hello and thanking everyone for being there. Was such a treat.

We visited for a short vacation with family. Our time at Montage felt like a true retreat. Plenty of activities for the whole family and a memorable luxury experience with top notch service.

We were very disappointed by the Montage Healdsburg. We have stayed at the Montage Palmetto Bluffs (which we loved) and the Montage Laguna Beach (also very nice). The property is lovely with beautiful oak trees and vineyards. The rooms are in bungalows and although the architecture is not interesting, they blend in with the trees. When we arrived, loud music was blaring at the valet station. They charge $45 per day for parking and there is no option to self park which seems ridiculous. The loud music continued at the check-in. We had a nice room with a fire pit on the deck, but we were able to hear our neighbors—something that you don’t expect at this price point. In addition, the towels were thin and of poor quality. The shower had no shower door which probably works in the summer months but not in winter. The bed was comfortable.
Dinner at Hazel Hill was marginal. My husband thought his salmon was fine but my cod was very fishy and almost inedible. In addition, my salad arrived with no dressing and it took them some time to bring dressing. We did not return on any of the subsequent nights. The burger in the lobby however was excellent. Breakfast was good although on the first morning, again the music was loud and frantic (and it was piped outside as well) but on the following mornings it was relaxing music. I need my coffee before having energetic music.
We asked about the complimentary yoga at the spa and received a cool reception. We were told we would have to book a day in advance. Spin classes are $50 which seemed excessive. Also the spa hours are not long and the last treatment is at 4:30pm.
Overall we will probably choose to go to Napa and stay either at the Four Seasons or Auberge in the future. We are sad that this is not a great option for the Healdsburg area which we love.

Our overall experience at the hotel was truly a 10. From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed and well taken care of. The room accommodations were fabulous—comfortable, well-appointed, and a perfect place to relax during our six-day stay. The spa was also wonderful, offering a peaceful, rejuvenating escape. In addition, the hotel grounds were just exquisite, beautifully maintained and a pleasure to walk through and enjoy.

A very special highlight of our stay was Cameron at the lobby bar. He was incredibly attentive and always remembered who we were each time we stopped by. His warm personality, engaging conversation, and impressive knowledge of wines and beverages made every visit a pleasure. He is a genuine asset to your hotel, though we do feel his talents are somewhat underutilized.

We spent our 18th wedding anniversary at Montage Sonoma, and it was nothing short of exceptional. The property is breathtaking — quiet, deeply peaceful, and seamlessly integrated into the natural hillside and vineyards. It feels luxurious, yet warm and grounding.

Our travel advisor, Kacy Carpenter, arranged an incredibly thoughtful surprise for our arrival — champagne on ice, a beautiful cake, and our wedding photo waiting in our upgraded suite. It immediately set the tone for a meaningful and memorable stay.

The highlight of our trip was the spa. We enjoyed a couples massage that exceeded every expectation — not rushed or routine, but intentional, calming, and deeply restorative. The environment was serene and the service throughout the resort was sincere, attentive, and effortless.

Montage Sonoma is the perfect place to slow down, reconnect, and celebrate life’s most meaningful moments. We are already looking forward to returning.

We had so many black beetles in our bathroom! It was awful! We had to kill over 15 of them and the hotel did not seem to really care… it was not giving luxury resort!!!
