The Super 8 in Moosonee is a pretty standard budget hotel. The room was clean and comfortable and included a microwave and mini fridge. The breakfast was OK, pretty standard budget hotel fare. The employees were helpful, and they do allow you to leave your bags until the train back to Cochrane arrives. My one complaint is the price; it was triple the price of a similar hotel in Cochrane. While I wouldn’t expect a hotel in an out of the way place like Moosonee to be the same as in a more accessible location, I feel this is excessive and the owners are taking advantage of the fact they have little competition. If I were to go back, I would try to book something with one of the locals who have B&Bs and self catering lodging.
The hotel was clean and my room was great with a seating area and laundry. However, when I arrived I was assigned the wrong type of room - not the one I had reserved. It was resolved, but that added a bit of stress to my trip that was not necessary.
I strongly recommend that you bring your own dishes and cutlery because even though there is a microwave and a fridge in your room, there are no dishes and this is pretty important in a town where there are no restaurants and you have to cook/heat up food in your room. It would be nice if the hotel could begin to provide these for its guests given the limitations in the town. There were lots of drawers and cupboards and counter space, and there was a coffee maker in the room.
The breakfast provided each morning was appreciated and adequate even though it was the same every day, but it was disappointing that the hot food (hashbrowns, sausages) is only provided when they have a lot of guests - so if you’re there on a less busy weekend for example, you are out of luck.
Finally, there is rarely anyone at the front desk and when you do need help (for example, you can’t get the ice machine to work) and you buzz and you call, no one ever comes.
The lobby/breakfast area is comfortable and being able to stay there after checking out (and needing to wait the six hours for the train to leave town) was greatly appreciated.
Staff was excellent. The hotel is clean and has all the conveniences necessary for a stay in peaceful and slow-paced Moosonee. Located next to the Northern Store and to the river, and just a couple of minutes walk from the train station, it is the perfect place to stay in Moosonee.
Lots of noise floor above us … and it was 2am
I am an international traveler, and, for the value, this is the most expensive hotel I have ever stayed.
Staff at Super 8 was friendly and very helpful. The hotel is brand new! Everything is in perfect condition; but it is way too expensive.
This is the only hotel in Moosonee that can be booked thru internet. Without it you are at the mercy of very disorganized and equally PRICEY inns who don't or rarely answers their phone or email.
The property is clean and comfortable. The staff were friendly. Our room had a fridge and microwave and coffee machine. We knew that there were no restaurants in Town so had brought food to heat in the microwave. The breakfast available was suitable and included some hot items. It was a bit pricey for the night, however given the location and the fact that everything has to be brought to this location by train does impact the cost.
This hotel is the only hotel in Moosonee
As a result Super8 clearly use that as a means to charge super inflated prices - by comparison I paid a similar price per night for 4* hotels in Montreal / Ottawa, and far less for much nicer properties in Charlottetown, Timmins and Cochrane.
Very poor value for money.
Best Service ever - the Manager he did pick me up from the Airport personally!!
NO ELEVATOR and they were painting 1st floor so I had to carry my luggage up the flights of stairs to second floor. If you have a mobility issue, ensure you get a room on first floor. I don’t see how they got away without having one considering the ADA…
Service was questionable and the hotel workers were not always available. I also tried to work with Hotels.com and Super 8 to get refund for two nights. The hotel refused to engage in the conversation.
The breakfast was very good.
Things were good
The stay was very good, check in and check out was great as well. No complaints. The breakfast was good as well, very clean place. I would recommend this place to stay. Room was clean and had no issues.
The hotel was clean and quiet. It was also close to limited shopping and take-out meals. Moosonee doesn't have any dine-in restaurants, but a reasonable selection of take-out.
Really, really nice place! Staff were nice and rooms were very clean and cozy. Very new and modern facility with a tasty hot breakfast. There aren't a lot of options nearby for meals and the groceries are pricey, so I reccommend bringing food for your stay (fridge and microwave are in the room)
Even though it is in a remote area, the property is well maintained
It’s where we wanted to be . Few steps from train station and few steps to moose river
Comfortable beds, a breakfast included, and a good amount of lighting - even if there were many other accommodation options in town (and there aren't), this would be a good place to stay. Staff are accommodating and friendly. If you book the suite with a "kitchenette", be advised that you will need to provide your own dish detergent and dishes (although you can get some from the breakfast area). There's also a washer and dryer in the suite - but bring your own laundry detergent! An easy walk to everywhere, and right across from the supermarket, which is a good thing, considering that there are no restaurants in town!
Moosonee is a Wonderful place, with breathtaking landscapes and nice people but food alternatives are very limited and most service providers (taxi boats) are not service-oriented or focused on the tourists.
This is not the hotel's fault but rather something the township can manage to make it more visitor friendly.
I suggest the hotel manager to lead this project to create a cluster that boosts tourism and generates more progress and development to all the community.
I would certainly visit the city again to head further north!!
Thanks for all.
Very good customer service and very good and friendly staff. It’s worth the visit to go up and stay.
