On first arrival, this appears to be a lovely boutique-style hotel with attractive public areas and a welcoming atmosphere. However, we found the room design and overall practicality could be improved, particularly for two friends sharing.
Lighting in the bedroom was quite limited, and there was no fridge. We also had to request cups and milk twice (though staff were quick and courteous in providing them). The main issue for us was privacy — our room faced directly onto the outdoor terrace, so we felt very visible from the restaurant area. The bathroom and shower were fully glazed without any frosting or screens, which was uncomfortable for two people sharing. To their credit, the staff did provide two bamboo screens, which helped.
In the bar, service was rather slow — after waiting about 15 minutes without being approached, we eventually decided to leave. The spa area is small but pleasant, though access for hotel guests is quite restricted in timing.
There are a few steps into the hotel, and it would have been nice to have some assistance with luggage when checking out. The location is slightly outside the main centre in a less polished area, but there are good transport links nearby.
Overall, this hotel has charm and potential, but some improvements in room design, amenities, and service would make it a much better experience.
Beautiful hotel. Huge rooms. Stylish decorating
Chambre extraordinaire. Les espaces publics très beaux et insolites
We stayed for three nights and found the staff and hotel excellent. Service at the front desk was second to none. Very helpful with directions and suggestions for restaurants and activities around Bordeaux.
We had an amazing stay at zoologie!!
The room was tidy and clean, atmosphere modern and charming with historic stone walls, super tall ceilings and a gorgeous zoologie decor. The renovation of the room is nice and the bathroom is really well integrated in the design.
About the amenities, unfortunately the gym was not accessible due to renovation. This would have been nice to know before booking. However, the bar and restaurant as well as common area was really nice.
What we really loved, was the heartwarming care and helpfulness of the staff. Already at the check-in, the staff member helped guide around the city and took care of our belongings while we went out (we arrived before check in was possible).
It was my girlfriend’s birthday and when we came back to the hotel and got our room, as we entered, there was a small gift and most thoughtful of all, a handwritten birthday card, by Jules. This kind of attention and care for guests, is rarely found anymore, and it meant the world to my girlfriend.
So thanks for a really nice stay, a memorable place and first and foremost the best, most kind, attention I’ve experienced in years.
Thanks again.
Best wishes from Denmark :)
The area is not great for walk.
A delightful hotel keeping many of the features of the old zoology faculty of Bordeaux University, but with a modern, industrial twist to the rooms. The restaurant offered good French cuisine and wine. The rooftop bar is a great place to unwind after a day’s sightseeing, but sadly the wine on offer there was dreadful. A big thank you and special mention for the staff on Reception who could not have been more helpful, friendly and went over and above the call of duty to make us welcome and to help with recommendations and with booking other restaurants.
Very nice hotel, nice room and beautiful spa!
Trendy hotel. Good air on during heatwave. Bus stop outside, station a little down the road but away from centre. Early check in is good value. Good bakery next door for breakfast
Lovely hotel but wasn’t a fan of the location as didn’t feel particularly safe at night. One of the hotel restaurants wasn’t open so we had to eat at the expensive one instead! Breakfast was nice but again expensive for what is provided and surprised this wasn’t included in the price anyway. Generally a lovely hotel and staff were so friendly but not sure we’d stay again.
A well located hotel, only a 10 minute walk from the train station. Lovely staff. More interesting than the usual chain hotels. Funky rooms with comfortable beds. Would stay again.
Fascinating and a little quirky, but in a good way. A former Natural History University building, remodelled with many references to its history. Well placed for the station and city transport and close to the Capucine Market - a must-see on your tour.
This is such a beautiful and unique property only a short tram ride from the centre of Bordeaux, but close to the train station and local shops (Spar and Boulangeries, etc).
The staff member on during the day at the front desk was amazing! Helpful, so welcoming, and made our stay.
The staff overall was so kind and we enjoyed our time in Bordeaux so much as a result.
tredy and very nice hotel
This hotel offers a truly unique and memorable experience, housed within a beautifully renovated ancient Faculty of Science building. Its heritage is seamlessly reflected in the contemporary decor and even the hotel's name. Our room was a comfortable size – neither overly large nor small – featuring a clever and unique transparent bathroom wall in the shower area. My personal favorite was the giant tub, easily accommodating two people for a truly relaxing bath. We particularly appreciated that all toiletries were from L'Occitane, as their delightful scents enhanced our stay, and we welcomed the perfumed Epsom salts provided for our bath soak. The complimentary spa access (available mornings and evenings without reservation) is a standout feature. The staff is exceptionally friendly and provides invaluable, personalized tips about the city, covering everything from top sightseeing spots to dining recommendations and even great "caves à vin" for tasting experiences. Beyond the rooms, the terrace, bar, and restaurant areas are beautiful and pleasant. The reception's unique hanging lights create a magical ambiance that will delight Harry Potter fans, reminding them of the Great Hall's floating candles. The only minor drawback is the location. The only minor drawback is the location. While it's a convenient 7-minute walk from the train station, the immediate area isn't the most charming and it's a bit further from the city center.
Great interior design
