Very Disappointing Stay – Misleading Room Description and Poor Service

I was extremely disappointed with my stay at Hotel Portucalense. The room descriptions did not reflect the actual quality or atmosphere of the rooms, and the service I received was very poor.

Upon arrival, I was offered a room in a separate outhouse away from the main hotel. As a woman travelling alone, I did not feel comfortable staying in a small building separate from the main hotel. When I raised my concerns with the receptionist, he insisted that the building was part of the hotel. However, this arrangement had not been made clear to me when I booked. Had I known, I would never have chosen this hotel.

The receptionist initially told me that nothing could be done and that I would have to accept the room. After a lengthy discussion, he eventually offered me a room in the main hotel, but made a comment that because I had paid less, this was what I should expect. He also suggested that if I was unhappy, I should contact Booking.com to arrange alternative accommodation. This was particularly frustrating after travelling for many hours, especially as I had no easy way to contact Booking.com at the time.

I had booked an Economy Double Room, which had no window. The room had no natural light and no window for natural ventilation. As someone who suffers from claustrophobia, staying in these conditions caused me considerable discomfort and distress. I do not believe the room’s limitations were made sufficiently clear when I made the booking.

I have attached photos to show the conditions of the room so that other travellers can make an informed decision before booking. Please be aware that the Economy Double Rooms may have no windows, and I strongly recommend confirming this directly with the hotel before making a reservation.

Additionally, the hotel is quite far from the metro station, making it less convenient for getting around.

Overall, this was a very disappointing experience.

Kamer in de kelder en veel stof op de kamer. Wist niet elke dag schoon gemaakt. Bedden waren erg hard.

The water pressure in the shower was very low
The parking space was extremely difficult to access and so narrow that even with the car's side mirrors folded in, we barely managed to fit through.

There was no room makeover or do not disturb sign in the room, so I had to ask for one. It was a bit annoying to then be told that room makeovers had to be requested before 11am, as this was never mentioned at check-in. The room itself felt more like a basement, with no windows and a slightly damp feel, and the bathroom was really small.

Entrada só por escada, sem elevador, e o quarto ficava no subsolo, também sem elevador — tudo carregando malas. Rua na frente não é boa pra parar, mas embarque e desembarque são rápidos. Subsolo sem janela nem vista; pra uma ou duas noites até compensa, mas faz falta.

Nada a apontar.
