We had a wonderful stay at Ranthari, located right on the beach. We had a family room and the balcony offered a fantastic view. The same view as from the roof pool area.
The hotel staff were extremely service minded and would always help no matter what. We went by speedboat to/from the island, and the hotel booked this for us and we paid the hotel. They drove us to/from the boat. The breakfast was ok. Dinner outside under the trees by the beach was lovely. We would definitely stay here again if we ever went back to Ukulhas.
So nice hotel and very amazing ocean overview. We leave hotel in 6 O'clock, they service has prepared breakfast for whole family and prepared transfer to airport.
When deciding where to stay in Ukulhas, we read so many nice reviews about Ranthari Hotel that we decided to book our say here, in half board.
We booked directly with the hotel
Little we knew, shortly after we booked there was a change in the management, and things have really taken a turn for the worse.
First of all, the place is called Ranthari hotel AND SPA – there was NO spa!!! I have asked 3 different people and every one of theme came up with a different excuse on why there was no spa. Even IF the closure was temporary (and considering the experience, I am not sure it was temporary) nobody informed us about the spa being unavailable.
Secondly, our daughter is celiac, and we contacted them multiple times, first to inform them about the dietary requirement to make sure they could accommodate it. They always said “yes yes, no problem”. We reminded them more than once over the month before our stay, up to the day before leaving. And then guess what? They did not have a single gluten free piece of bread or pasta. ZERO.
If they were honest and upfront about it, we would have brought our own. I put no blame on the guy managing the kitchen and the restaurant, he was an absolute star, it was just lack of communication (and lack of care) on part of whoever was communicating with us.
Restaurant:
Breakfast was a bit scarce and with not much choice.
The croissants were always stale, and the fruit was down to papaya and watermelon. Never saw a single piece of pineapple or a banana in the breakfast selection.
Moreover, most of the tour leaves at 7 am, but even so, there would only be black coffee available before 7.
With the half board you could chose if to have lunch or dinner, which allows you a good flexibility.
The food quality was very good, I will give them that, but portion were little, and we always ended up still being hungry after our meal. You can chose either one starter + one main OR one main + a dessert, which after a week, becomes quite repetitive. There are quite a few dining options on the island, all pretty good and affordable, so I would recommend you did not book half board, it would be more convenient to eat there a la carte whenever you want and try also the other places. Still worth to eat the the Ranthari restaurant a la carte, the prices are reasonable.
The tune steak is the best I have ever had in my life.
Let’s get to the hotel part itself. This is the most disappointing. Don’t be fooled by the nice picture, the place is falling apart.
First of all, we booked a “two bedrooms with Seaview”, as it was us and our daughter. By the way it was presented on the website, it looked like 2 separate bedroom with a common small living area that could be enjoyed… not true. The common area was just an empty corridor passing in front of the 2 rooms, with an extra door at the end of the corridor to separate the 2 rooms from the rest of the floor.
The balconies were so dirty (and nobody ever cleaned the during our stay), we just never used them.
But the state of the rooms was just appalling. The walls were full of water infiltrations and mouldy, causing the room to smell really bad and musty.
The see through curtains were full of black mould and the blackout curtains were a colander, defying their purpose, as they were absolutely useless, and the light coming in would wake you up pretty early.
Bed line were disgusting, stained and smelly.
The bathrooms were very small with absolutely no space to leave your stuff, not a shelf, a cupboard or anything, just a single hook for the towels, and they were smelling like sewage.
When we reported to receptions all the problems in the room, they acted surprised, as if they did not know.
They did NOT offer a discount.
Moreover, be aware that on each side of the hotel there are construction sites, which are noisy and causing a lot of dut (not the hotel fault, but just making you aware).
The 2 new building they are buildings on each side are toller than Ranthari and they are restricting the view, so, do not trust the idyllic and paradisiac photos you see on the internet.
The beach in front of the hotel is nice, they have sunbed for the guests, but you have to help yourself, there is no staff member helping you getting the beds from the pile they are in.
All in all a very disappointing experience and we would NOT RECOMMEND this hotel to anyone.
There are much better accommodations for a cheaper price on the island.
The Hotel was perfect. From the food to the very clean rooms, which they are cleaning every day. Also the beach was perfect which is directly in front of the hotel. The Hotel Staff was so nice and like a family with that you can speak the whole time. They are really caring about you and helping you in every way possible. The Island is also very beautiful and its also very safe and clean. I would definitely go again to Ukuhlas and to Rhantari. I also recommended it my friends
Staff were so friendly and helpful. Food was lovely.
Right on the beach!
This place is so worth it. So nice staff. Nice place to stay. Great reef. Absolutely recommended.
Our stay at this hotel was absolutely magnificent. The rooms were beautiful, offering a spectacular view that made every morning special. The cleanliness and order throughout the hotel were impeccable.
We felt truly pampered at every meal and with every request we made. All of our tours were organized directly with the hotel, and we couldn’t be happier with the decision. The organization was flawless, and the prices were unbeatable.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the entire staff for the exceptional treatment we received. Everyone we encountered was truly special, but we want to give a special mention to Mustafa, Rezaul, and Mahinda for their unmatched kindness, professionalism, and willingness to go above and beyond.
We can’t wait to come back and experience this amazing place again!
Ranthari offers a very comfortable stay in its own sympatic and friendly way. We had a sea view room with balcony for extra Cost and truly enjoyed the view. The double room is small but everything necessary is there. No fridge in the room but staff always extremely helpful to give cold water for Free from the restaurant. Borrowing the snorkeling equipment from the Hotel was Free of charge and so great. And the best of all - just outside the Hotel - straight from the hotel’s own beach one can go snorkeling. A truly wonderful holiday. Already wanting to return 💙🐟🐠🦀💙
This property has a beautiful beach front and friendly competent staff. However not really any other activities. It depends on what you would like to do. Everything is by water so distances may be very far with a steep cost. They do serve a nice breakfast assortment.
Average hotel at the beach. Rooms are ok size and well equipped, although a few more hangers and bedside tables on both sides of the bed would've been nice. The hotel could use a little care, the paint and bathroom seal needs some freshing up.
The staff is very friendly and extremely helpful. The breakfast is very basic but the food in the restaurant is by far the best on the island, especially the Tuna Tataki, AMAZING!
My 1st time in Maldives and i am so happy i stayed here. Very quiet and private hotel. Beautiful rooms with balcony and sea view. Great service from everyone, Ingvar especially. I came to Maldives with some scepticism but i am leaving with hopes to return.
Very great owner and operation manager. They treat guests like relatives . Very good location for economical for children activities.. many excursions like Manta, Nurse Shark, and many more . Restaurant is really great and room service and breakfast.
Although this hotel was very clean and presentationally pleasant to look at there appears to be a a lot of wear and tear. I was disappointed to find that the spa is closed and that there is no longer a bar on the roof top. The swimming pool is lovely especially in the afternoons but surrounded by laundry!
It was not worth having a partial sea view room because there is a lot of building work on either side of the hotel and on one side they work from 7 am until 7 pm with one night working until 10pm and it’s just not a view you want to see.
In comparison to other hotels and restaurants the costs are higher for no better service. Breakfast hot food options were always cold, although the evening meal was good, drinks are expensive compared to other restaurants, sometimes twice the price!
The staff were efficient but did not want to chat much or ask about our day or make recommendations. They seemed fixated on making the place look nice rather than offering / creating a friendly atmosphere.
The excursions offered were expensive compared to the rest of the island with no added benefit. It’s worth shopping around if you are happy to meet the hotels ‘disclaimer’ which we did, knowing other operators work to the same standards.
Our room was always cleaned well, smelt beautiful and had clean towels every day which was pleasant. Well done cleaners.
I have stayed in many hotels over my time from 2-5 star and felt underwhelmed.
Hotel is nice. Pricier that others on the island. Very close proximity to the beach, made it awesome.
AMZING STAFF, best hotel in maldives. Staff was really helpfully and it was very nuce to have a pool at the hotel when you are tired off the beach.
The location was perfect, ENDLESS activities planned from the hotel and good price. Spa was amazing and very nice food. Free laundry service, drinking water, transport and snorkelling gear!
Would 100% recommend!
The hotel is big compared to the size of the island, which is very nice because is fully equipped. The staff is so friendly and Ula was a very helpful, she recommend me the Manta Safari which was amazing. The rooms was very cleaning such as the common areas of the hotel. The food in the restaurant was delicious and the Bikini Beach is right in front the hotel. The view from the pool was stunning. I really recommend this place and I defo will be back there to find the Whale Shark!
We visited Ukulhas and spent marvelous 3 days at Ranthari hotel. It was the most amazing stay we have had in a long time due to the family atmosphere in the hotel. The service is excellent, the restaurant serves so delicious different kind of meals and there is available everything you need for your beach holiday. There are just few steps from the bikini beach. And the people working there look happy to be there, happy to provide this excellent service. I would like to come here again.
What an amazing property - the rooms were amazing the breakfasts delicious the beach superb and the service - impeccable. This is such a better option than going for the resorts it’s wonderful staying on a local island - this is my 5th trip to Maldives and I’ll only do local islands and this is definitely one of the top properties on a local island. The jet boat transfer was affordable and timed well.
