Wonderful hotel. World-Class staff. Meh breakfast keeps it from being a 10
Pros:

World-class staff. Rooms are really nice and the entire hotel is beautiful. The lounge area that's open most of the day for guests to drop in and grab a bite and a drink is a standout both in terms of the offerings, staff and the view of a nearby shrine.

This hotel is located near a lot of good dining and retail options. Gion-area just north of here felt like main & main when we were walking around and you're basically right there.

Cons:

Found breakfast to be subpar which was a bit of a bummer relative to how good their lounge setup was.

One thing that's a pro and a con depending on your preference/itinerary is that the hotel is located in a very very busy area off a relatively narrow, one-way, one-lane road. The reason it's so popular is that further up the hill-line is a popular attraction that most guests at the hotel will eventually see so from that perspective it's conveniently located. However, taxi's coming to and from the hotel get stuck in this congestion of people and it can be a bit overwhelming to step into whenever you leave or want to return to the hotel so just something for people to be aware of before booking. We eventually would walk about 4 min west down the hill and called ubers to a main road to save time to work around this.

Tranquil hotel in the heart of Gion.
Pros:

Excellent location and beautiful property. You can really feel as though walking through school halls and stairwells. The library for breakfast is a stunning room. Very helpful staff. We had use of the guest lounge - it was a lovely spot for a cocktail and view of the pagoda. A nice tranquil retreat amid the hectic Gion neighbourhood.

Excellent very calm oasis in a busy city

We can’t wait to go back - amazing experience!!!

My family and I considered this hotel one of the best hotels we ever stayed at. We enjoyed all the restaurants within the hotel (Japanese, French, and Italian) and really like the lounge.

I lived our stay and was very comfortable .
Pros:

The hotel was perfectly situated, we enjoyed the restaurant and hotel lounge. Our room was exceptionally well appointed and the large bath was wonderful addition to our room

Cons:

The gardens - I felt they look a little unkept but then I want sure if they were awaiting spring bulbs to pop up in the lawn .
