I am a loyal BonVoy Marriott member and chose Marriott almost exclusively when I travel. I also frequent their bars and restaurants often. Monday evening, 1 Dec at the lobby bar, I was asked to leave after 2 hours as it was policy. I said ok no problem but as I sat and looked around at a mostly empty bar I began to wonder why I was asked to leave. It was Monday evening, the bar had many open seats and was not busy.
On my way out I asked if I had offended anyone because being asked to leave felt very unusual when it was clearly not a busy night. The staff couldn’t explain why the policy was being applied. I was simply told it’s on a case by case basis. I left it at that and wished everyone a good night.
It felt like poor customer service and lack of staff training. I understand having the policy on busy nights but in my experience on slow nights these type of policies are often not enforced unless the customer is causing a problem which is why I asked if I had offended anyone. The experience didn’t line up with the great service I normally receive at Marriott.
