We only stayed one night after a very long drive. Staff were friendly and welcoming.Room was excellent, very well maintained and comfortable, good shower, large comfortable bed and the breakfast was very good quality with lots of choices.
Can’t fault this hotel
We stayed at this hotel for four nights as part of a 25th wedding anniversary holiday, having made the booking the previous November.
The hotel is ideally located, easily accessible from the main train station and, as we did, from the nearby Euskotren station. It is also only a short walk to the city centre, and to the beaches.
We had a first floor room facing the river, from which the view was excellent. The room was of a high standard, including the luxurious bathroom. The room was spotless on arrival and was cleaned daily.
All of the hotel staff were very helpful, including at the reception, at the rooftop bar (which is worth a visit just for the views) and in the main bar.
We would highly recommend the hotel to anyone wanting to visit San Sebastian.
Pros: Location was great. Very close to the train and bus station in a good way. On the river and a short walk the Old Town side on the other side of the river. That said we had better food on this/more residential side. Most of the staff was great. Save one that was a little bothered with us. Very pleasant for the rest. The lobby area was nice. The exterior looked historic/cool. And the roof top was nice. The astroturf wasn't as terrible as I thought it would be. Again the staff up there was great too. Communication from the hotel prior to arrival was good.
Cons: We booked a "corner suite" six months ago for our anniversary. It wasn't a suite and while clean, was sparse and only had the one window. At the time the pictures showed a more traditional finish. Now it is very modern. The pictures and description mentioned the corner rooms had two walls with huge windows and a small balcony. Ours had the balcony. Nothing on the other wall. A small desk and very small coffee table. We lived out of our suitcases left on the floor for five nights. There was an armoire by the door but the 1980's mini-mini fridge was cranking out heat making the storage space too hot. Did come in handy when we got soaked. We used the closet as a clothes drier! Nothing but the headboard on the walls. Just a big blank white room with very limited furniture. And if you are newlyweds, DO NOT book! We were on our 30th anniversary. So no surprises. But the modern blue glass panels used as a "door" to the bathroom do NOT allow for privacy. You'll want to save sharing those sounds until you have been married longer. Oh, and the pictures from the rooms of the river were taken either well before the trees blocked the view or well into Fall. We were on the 3rd floor river side and saw no river.
Overall: Good with just some short comings.
I can’t think of a better property to acquaint yourself with San Sebastián, as it’s located within walking distance to pretty much everything, and very close to the vibrant nightlife of Gros (yet still in a relatively quiet area). The staff are marvelous and attentive, the breakfasts are spot-on, and the rooms are well-appointed. I’ll stay here again for sure. Recommended!
Very nice hotel walking distance to all the cool spots. It also had good breakfast and rooftop bar. Prices very reasonable for the area.
Really enjoyed our stay at the ABBA. The location is ideal and easily walkable to the old town, just a few minutes over the bridge, very safe! The staff were all very helpful and always gave us a warm reception. Loved the rooftop bar in the late afternoon before heading out to dinner.
Great location, excellent facilities. Varied and tasty breakfast food and drinks.
Encountered three different reception staff, all very friendly, efficient and helpful. Great ambassadors for the hotel. Bar manager similarly was efficient, and friendly, nothing was too much.
Would recommend this hotel for its location and the great staff.
Great location for going to either beach, the Old Town or Barrio Gros. We walked as far south as Reale Arena. Bus station is also within 5 minutes walk. Room was clean. Terrace is lovely.
Staff was very helpful and friendly.
We had a corner room with a balcony facing the river on the top floor, which I feel was the best location in the hotel.
(Bear in mind there are trees in front of the hotel so it’s not a river view).
Location is perfect for exploring - 5 mins across the bridge to Old Town. 5 mins to the surfers beach and 10 mins to La Concha. Everywhere is walkable.
Beds were super comfy with pillows I wanted to take home 😂
We were there for Big Week which meant fireworks every night - the roof top bar was perfect for this as it was very busy elsewhere.
The bar has a very slow service though.
The main thing that let the hotel down was breakfast. It was tasty but not much choice. The waitress who was there every day was friendly and worked hard - however she appeared to be doing everything. Checking guests off, replenishing food and clearing tables. This meant that quite often tables were stacked with plates, tables not turned around and sometimes there was limited food out as she could not keep up.
We never once had our plates taken away whilst sat there, having to do it ourselves to some degree.
For a city know for its food, we expected a bit more.
The staff in general were all very pleasant and helpful but I think it felt quite understaffed for the time of year.
Staff was great and rooms were very nice and clean. Beautiful hotel.
Beautiful old building and pleasant staff. We had a spacious room with a very comfortable bed and a high spec bathroom. Spotlessly clean. We had a lovely stone balcony. The terrace downstairs was lovely. The hotel is in a great location, a few minutes walk from a stunning beach. Highly recommend.
We were greeted very warmly and first impressions were good. The style and decor is clean and smart. Our room was on floor 3 facing the river and was as expected. It was dark as the beautiful trees lining the river path were in full leaf allowing minimal natural light and no view. The hotel is noisy - sounds from other rooms and the roof terrace are fairly loud. The bed was large and the mattress very firm. We didn’t like the bed much but those who like firm mattresses would. Air con worked well and we used it as we had warm weather. The bathroom all worked and overall the room was good. We had drinks at the roof bar one night and liked the views and found the price acceptable. Breakfast was ok although my husband would like coffee made by a person rather than a machine. With all the food options in Donostia we only ate one breakfast here. Location is great by the way. We walked everywhere and didn’t get lost!
Excellent hotel, good location , everybody very attentive to our needs,
So happy we choose the Abba Hotel for a short break in San Sebastian.
It is perfectly located to the beach and the old town. And most and for all it is located in a one of a kind historical building.
It is such a boutique hotel with a special vibe backed by a fantastic team.
Nice location
I booked through guest reservations.com so due to their poor displaying of prices I paid a lot more than I expected. Don’t use them! Bearing in mind how much I was hoping for good things, but was pretty disappointed the boutique room could just about see the river but we could be seen by passers by. Upper floors would have no view because of the trees. The bathroom has stupid electric doors which really aren’t necessary and the air con was poor. The shower was ordinary and leaked on the floor. We could have stayed in the old town in a better hotel for less like our friends did. Also it doesn’t really have parking you have to park in the bus station which is a 10 min walk, and there is nowhere to unload luggage outside the hotel. 2 nights parking was €47 which seemed a lot.
We were extremely happy with the hotel's location; service from front and back house staff; cleanliness; amenities; breakfast and use of the roof top bar. our superior bedroom was spacious and very light - it was lovely to have 4 windows. And the location was very quiet with respect to traffic noise. We definitely recommend the hotel to fellow travelers
Shower leaked and difficult to operate
Close to everything; could walk
