The hotel itself has a pleasant atmosphere and reflects the calm, hospitable environment you expect in Japan.
My experience was negatively affected by the behavior of one manager, Tany.
During the day, I requested assistance with a taxi but received no reply. At around 7 PM, I asked again in person and was told vaguely that taxis were not available, but something might be arranged informally. There was still no clear confirmation or cancellation policy provided.
About an hour later, I cancelled my request. After that, the situation escalated unnecessarily. At around 11 PM, the manager came to my room, raised her voice, and demanded a cancellation fee. I was disturbed late at night several times and not allowed to rest, which is completely unacceptable. Her voice was loud disturbing other guests as well.
In addition, during my stay, whenever there were issues with room arrangements, responsibility was consistently shifted onto me instead of being handled professionally by the hotel.
This behavior completely contradicted the otherwise calm and pleasant atmosphere of the property and unfortunately ruined the overall experience.
Good location.
Lots, poorly designed rooms.
External signage very poor, made it hard to find, no signs to help find reception.
Rooms small and hard to use eg as a couple we were very cramped.
My husband has to be on gluten-free diet and the chef did extra work to cook him delicious gluten-free dinner and breakfast. We really appreciated it. All the staff were very friendly and nice! We felt as if we were families. The owner was nice, too. I actually chose this hotel because my favorite writer, Fumiko Hayashi, stayed here back in 1940s and wrote the famous novel. They have the display of the writer's photos and stuff in the lobby. They keep goats in the front yard which is amusing.
The dryers in the laundry room are not easy to use. They need better instructions of how to use in the laundry room. They have a high-end coffee maker in the room next to the cafeteria, but they offer only vanilla flavored coffee. I am not a fan of vanilla coffee. Can they add regular coffee?
古いホテルです。フロントは6階でその下に部屋があります。高低差のある建物で、入ったのが1階で戸惑いました。ただスタッフは親切だったのでよかったです。
The hot spring was nice. Staff was also very helpful and understanding.
Appliances in the room were slight old.
2泊しました。食事は外食としましたが、縄文杉ツアーに用意して頂いたお弁当は美味しかったです。
縄文杉前夜寝ているとおおきなムカデが現れ慌てて電気を付けると捕食系の大きな蜘蛛がおり、徹夜での縄文杉アタックとなりました。
屋久島と言うロケーション上仕方ないのかもしれませんが、。
総合評価としては料金を鑑み率直にこの様なy評価となりました。

The walls were dirty and looked old or marked up. The door didn't close well. The bath in our room was mildewed and not fresh looking. It needed to be updated. The hotel seemed like an old hotel that had not been updated.
