Such an interesting house set in its own grounds. The reception rooms were lovely and full of interesting furniture and items from around the world.
Our bedroom was well appointed with an excellent bathroom that included a long bath.
Breakfast was good with a full choice of cooked items as well.
The nearby road was quite busy but ear plugs were provided.
Well worth a stay if you are in the area.
Very dog friendly - our dog was welcomed warmly with a treat from the manager.
I think £20 for a small dog is a bit high.
The mattress was too firm for me but ok for my husband
The hotel manager was very friendly and put up with my son who kept going down to the bar for drinks in the evening, (it was his birthday!)
We really liked the quirky decor and that there were lounging rooms downstairs for our use.
Room was cold when we first arrived, but manager did sort it out quite quickly.
Shame we couldn't have a twin bed option. As this was the hotel I chose, I had to share a bed with my son. Breakfast could have been hotter and if I remember they had run out of brown bread for toast.
The property was lovely and warm, despite it being quite old - looks like a new heating system may have been installed. The interior decor had an African theme (which we loved) and we understand the owner has links to education in Swaziland (Eswatini). Our room (9) was cosy and warm and it looks like a recently refurbished shower/bathroom. A welcome tray also included in the room.
I don't think we can say anything negative about the hotel or our experience.
It was so homely & quirky. I loved my Attic room & the story behind the owner which explains the decor
Nothing really
The breakfast lovely and tasty very well served excellent way to start the day the room was well presented and the hosts lovely would definitely go back again
The staff were friendly, always ready with a smile and very helpful. Big shout out to Mel who was extremely welcoming.
Lekker ontbijt.

Most were good no complaints
Shower cleanliness could have been better
The hosts were very welcoming and friendly. We had been allocated an attic bedroom with our toilet and shower down a flight of stairs but as my husband was just recovering from major surgery that would not have been suitable. It was very quickly resolved and an alternative room with ensuite bathroom was given to us. The sitting areas were very comfortable, although the fires were not always lit and it was a bit chilly. We sat by the log fire one afternoon once it was lit but it was left to go out and a note said guests were not to put logs onto it. They are very large areas to keep warm. The bedroom/bathroom/towels were spotlessly clean, the bed was comfortable and there were tea/coffee making facilities with plenty of tea bags, etc. to restock. The shower unit was a good size and the water extremely hot. We asked about places to have dinner nearby and were directed just next door to a Beefeater and given a 20% off voucher. We later noticed that there was a menu for evening meals at the hotel.
The breakfast was a real treat! Cereals, porridge, pastries to help yourself to. Then a menu including a traditional English breakfast which we really enjoyed. Everything was cooked to perfection. Service was good.
We enjoyed our stay at this hotel and would consider returning.
Really, the main problem was that our bedroom (Room 6) was lit up by outside floodlights at night and the curtains were flimsy cotton and so did nothing to block out the light. The host explained that they have not long taken over and are trying to find how to turn them off as they are on a timer! So hopefully this will be resolved.
Very homely but trendy too
