The bed was amazing , the sheets wow. The coffee bar in them with muffins was outstanding. Lola was so yummy. The staff were all kind and amazing .
It could be freshened up a bit . But nothing big
Beautiful building, with a fantastic restaurant and bar. The best restoration of a historical hotel that retains the charm of the period.
The staff left much to be desired. The fire alarm malfunctioned at midnight the second night we stayed there, it went off for 45 minutes before we decided to grab out things and go stay somewhere else. There was zero communication for the night clerk about what was going on, and all the guest, including young children, were left out in 32 degree cold for nearly an hour without any acknowledgement of the situation. When I returned the next day to checkout I was told the night would be refunded, which would have made the hospitality more reasonable, but I was never refunded. It was a terrible and expensive experience.
We stayed at the National Hotel in Nevada City for a wedding weekend in February 2026, and overall it was a memorable experience.
The location is absolutely exceptional — truly walking distance to everything. Nevada City has a vibe all its own: charming, artsy, and effortlessly chic. The hotel fits perfectly into that atmosphere. It’s full of beautiful antiques, and the décor is fantastic. Everywhere you look there’s character and old-time charm.
Our room was very spacious, and the bed was unbelievably comfortable. The comforter was soft and fluffy — one of those beds you just sink into. The bathroom was large and roomy, and the antique touches in the room added such a special, old-fashioned flair. The hotel was very clean, quiet, and overall had a pleasant, cozy ambiance.
The food was delicious — and I have to say, the French fries were the best I’ve ever had in my life!
The only downside was the service. We were in town with a wedding group, and in the evenings when everyone was ordering drinks, service took far too long. There were only two waiters, and unfortunately they weren’t very friendly, which took away from the experience a bit.
Also, during our stay there was a big snowstorm, so there was quite a bit of snow in front of the hotel. Some parking spots weren’t fully cleared, which made parking a little difficult.
Overall, I was very impressed with the décor, cleanliness, comfort, and ambiance. With improved service during busy times, this place would be absolutely perfect.
Great stay in a lovely hotel. Comfy bed, great facilities. Perfect spot to explore the town. Would recommend.
Nothing really - Housekeeping forgot to give us towels but they arrived 2 min after we let them know.
The historic hotel is beautiful and the staff was wonderful. We recommend a room with a balcony and having a few friends visit for tea.
Nevada şehri girişinde konumu merkezi olması , temiz ve kaliteli bir otel.
Kahvaltı olarak sadece kahve ve muffin kek dışında başka hiçbir şey yok.
Beautifully preserved historic property with amazingly comfortable beds and beautiful bathrooms. You feel like you're stepping back in time with the period decor and furnishings. Loved the bar, restaurant, and the comfortable lounge on the second floor. Also enjoyed stepping out on the balcony with friends to share a drink and enjoy the views of town. Only reason for 4 stars vs 5 was the cold and abrupt service from the front desk woman at check-in (despite our attempts to warm her up and be extra friendly) just strange vibes that left us feeling a little put-off. We overheard another guest complaining about her attitude at checkout the next day. Aside from that, loved our stay and would recommend for a fun night away in Nevada City.
I’ve never stayed in a more beautiful hotel. I love design and decor and they nailed it. My room was so charming and lovely. I could have stayed forever! All the staff was friendly and we felt so cared for in all areas.
Loved the ambiance and style of the hotel. The Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Rooms were spacious and beautiful......However...we were jolted awake by the sounds of a leaf blower at 5:50 in the morning !...tried to call the front desk but no answer ..probably because everyone was calling ! The next morning I called down to complain and even though the clerk was polite, she explained that it is a regular occurrence, not within their control, along with the street cleaner truck. I wish I would have at least got a warning. The next night ...we moved to an exterior annex room, once again nice..but 6:00 M. the next morning garbage trucks dumping dumpsters!! sigh
Besides all the good things...rooms are beautiful, but there are rickety bed side 'pedestals' that couldn't even be as large as a salad plate to hold your cell phone, water etc...same with the bathrooms one small 'stand' not large enough to hold your vanity bag or shaving kit ..sigh. If things like noise and utility are negligable for you then this should be a 5 star experience for you.
I still loved the Hotel and loved the town and would definitely return, just not on the days where leaf blowers and garbage trucks reign.
Beautiful, stylish, all the comforts and historical charm. We stayed in the king studio suite 208 and it was spacious with a small table and loveseat couch. Perfect place to stay! Lovely town to visit. The bar and restaurant downstairs are convenient but there are many other spots to explore for dining amd drinks in the area. Staff is the best!
breakfast was great and so was the location, everybody was helpful
Nothing the staff was great the hotel was everything we expected, we had a problem with reservations because I originally book the wrong dates, but I called the hotel, and Alexi or Alex handled the situation, He was awesome
The location is excellent, and parking is very convenient. The decor is stylish, and staying here was a great choice for Nevada City. Being right in the heart of the town was wonderful.
The room we stayed in faced the building’s inner space, and the window could not be opened, making the room feel quite stuffy. Breakfast was limited to muffins and coffee; while the muffins were delicious, they were not replenished once they ran out. Dinner is served in an elegant restaurant with live piano music, but unfortunately, the quality of the food and wine did not meet our expectations.
Definitely a very nice old old timey hotel. The king suite room was very spacious, clean, and comfortable. Note there are no TVs in the rooms which is fine. They do have decent Wi-Fi to use your phone or iPad or tablet if you so chose to do so. Had reservations in the restaurant Lola in the hotel for New Year's Eve multi-course dinner at the restaurant. Unfortunately the portions were small and the service was rushed due to it being full because of New Year's Eve. Had expected a New Year's Eve champagne toast at midnight at the bar as part of the deal as advertised on their website, but unfortunately they closed the bar before midnight so that was disappointing. Also the complimentary coffee service in the morning was disappointing because they ran out of coffee shortly after 9 am and although we waited to almost 1030 am they never did refill it. The meal and the hotel stay was very expensive for what little is offered. It is a nice location to walk around town to other restaurants, shops, and bars. I'm not sure that I would stay again nor recommend to others.
Great location. King Suite on 3rd floor was nice. We weren't aware that we needed to call the hotel to request a specific room. Christmas Prix Fix dinner was stellar, as was the service. Beef cheeks tasted like Mom's homemade pot roast! The following night, Live Jazz in the bar was outstanding too. The bar closed at 9pm on Thursday so we went across the street to The Mine Shaft and it was a fun dive bar. So many wonderful shops, artists, hiking trails, and a couple delish wine tasting rooms within walking distance. Pretty nice first experience at The National and Nevada City. The only downside was that we expected Sunday brunch to be as good as Christmas Day dinner and it was the complete opposite. But not to worry as there are many unique bistro's and dining spots that are culinary jewels nearby.
Morning coffee. Lounge area. Location is great
Lots of stairs for an old guy. No room tv
